Default Should I do this to my head?

    Spiral perm

As a background, my hair is *fine*. I have a lot of it, but it's an uphill battle to give it body and volume. It rejects shape, and usually falls flat within two or so hours of styling. I have a round face, so I can't leave it limp, and pulling it back looks weird, due to my high forehead. I'm at the end of my rope. Advice?

i think the girl in the pic has really pretty hair. i say go for it, but talk to your stylist and ask them how they think it'll turn out.

You only live once, go for it. I don't know if I'd do spiral, but maybe one of those bigger curls that are just for body and volume.

Just say NO! Perms never look like the picture and they ravage your hair.

A spiral perm will only hold it's spiral curl pattern for a short period of time. After the first week or two the curl relaxes a tiny bit and it looks just about like any other perm.

My new stylist was talking the other day about how young girls don't even remember their mom's having perms anymore and are coming in to get perms then coming back hysterical a few weeks later because they don't look like the pictures.

In most of those pics the hair has been curled with a curling iron to smooth and add bounce to all the top visible curls. The only perm I ever had that looked remotely like that picture was a rope perm. It was done on HUGE ropes and they were wrapped spiral style. Unfortunately, it too looked like a bunch of frizzy, droopy, shit after a very short period of time.

The worst thing about perms imo is that conditioner really relaxes the curl and makes the hair look droopy, however perming is sooooo damaging without mega-conditioner you look like a frizzy cactus is growing on your head.

don't do it. why anyone would WANT swamp hair is beyond me.... perms are crazy.

Try hot rollers and volumizing spray.

I second the hot rollers. Try Matrix volumizing mouse (the blue one). Also use Kenra Volumizing hair spray.

Invest in a nice spiral curling iron and flirt with the style instead.

Don't fry your hair. I have a year or two of hair maintanance to look forward to because I screwed my hair up. Now people tell me it looks better unaltered. Go figure, sometimes you can't win.

hot rollers are fool proof. I am severely impaired with a curling iron, but with hot rollers, it takes 3 minutes to put them in, spray them really good, walk around looking like a 50's housewife for 15 minutes until they cool.... take them out, instant sex goddess hair.

    Perms are bad... Mmmmmkay.

I would say invest in a good lace front wig.

My hair can't hold a curl either. I don't know why. I've tried sprays, curlers rollers, everything except getting a perm (because I know how horrible it is for the hair).

I just live with straight hair. I've given up on curls. But if I had my heart set on being curly I would just buy a wig because it would make my life sooo much easier.

I'm totally trying this. I'm trying to do pin-up hair once a week, so rollers are a must.

No, please don't. The proper haircut, style and products can help tremendously. Color tends to make the hair appear thicker as well.

My mother kept perms in my hair when I was little because I have fine hair and it just fried what I had. I've seen it do the same thing to other's with fine hair. I've seen very few positive results from someone attempting to add body by getting a perm.

Just say no! Coming from someone who had a couple perms in her life, the chemicals fucking wreck your hair, and unless you get a major cut, can take years to grow out. It looks so much better to keep your hair as is and use quality rollers/curling iron to achieve the results you are looking for.

I would get a wig that looks like that & forget the perm unless you're willing to cut off a lot of your hair after it dies out.

Her hair looks cute in that pic, but curly hair perfection takes practice. I've had curly hair for more than 2 decades and I still f it up sometimes!

A spiral perm on very fine hair would make you look like Slash for the whole week that it actually stayed in. Then you'd be out $150. Plus it can look very dated.

You could invest in a high-end ceramic iron, like the T3 or the Chi, that has a curling function (such as the T3 Bespoke Medium Duality). They use steam to curl your hair, so it'll stay in longer. Plus a good hair spray will help--I bought a bottle of Bedhead Maxxed Out spray, and holy shit that stuff holds like nails. I have very fine hair also, but using mousse and spray keep a style for a long time even on my hair. (Not that I do it very often.)

i have fine hair that won't hold curls either, my hair chick gave me some stuff from redken called ringlet 07
    http://www.redken.com/products/styli...rol/ringlet-07

omg...it makes it so my ringlet curls stay in for HOURS! i love it! and even when i seperate the ringlets they don't frizz!!!! it actually makes it kinda shiny! and it's a very very soft hold, but very strong. which is not usually how it goes!

if i don't wash my hair the next day, after i brush it, my hair still looks fabulous, wavy and shiney and full of body.

i put it in my towel dried hair, comb it through (you don't need more than a quarter size dollup and my hair is long), then i either put them in these
www.tenderheaded.com/goodpilsofro.html and let it dry over a few hours, sometimes putting a blow dryer with a diffuser on them (i only do this if i have an hour or so before i go out or i end up like shirley temple! lol)

or i fully dry, then put hot rollers in and spray it, leave it for at least 30 minutes, but i prefer to get fully ready then take them out right before i leave the house.

i'm telling you this redken stuff has made a HUGE difference in my hair styling.
