I didn't say it was pointing to dirty Repub tricks (although this is more likely to happen in heavy Dem areas). It's not right for anyone to have to be dismissed form voting whether they are R or D. I said that in an earlier post.

And I am saying that they DO check these voters when they register and if something comes up then, yes, the person should be notified. Why shouldn't they be? If there was a problem with your registration, wouldn't you want to know that before you got to the polling place and they demanded a bunch of documents that you don't keep with you all the time and then they checked your info but you were one of the unlucky 40-something percent that are mistakenly turned away?

Why should a system that is wrong half the time still be used? Why?
Because it's beneficial to the political party that is in bed with the people that make the election machines. They already know they're gonna win. Yay, America!!

Perhaps because not imposing it might rely in less-representative results. the most accurate polling possible should be the goal. Perhaps with time this policy will be executed more effeciently.

And the insinuation that this is being done to the dems detriment was posted in the thread. Perhaps not by you, buy it is there nonetheless.

I didn't do an extensive search, but I did spend some time searching articles online for proof of voter fraud, and could find nothing. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place? I'm talking about proof of bad ballots, not just talk about the possibility of voter fraud.

Now, there is a lot of proof of ELECTION FRAUD. Ask Don Seigleman, he'll tell you all about it, LOL!
The consensus is that there is some voter fraud. Liberal groups and orgs. like the Brennan Center try to pretend there is none. Conservative groups like The Heritage Foundation, AIM and the very, very nervous ( about EVERYTHING ) Michele Malkin claim it is rampant. As usual, the truth appears to be somewhere in the middle.

On the one hand you had Federal legislation in 2002 making voter registration easier- "Motor Voter". In response, a number of states tightened up verification procedures to try and ensure that convicted felons and illegal aliens were not in fact registered. The Supreme
Court upheld Indiana's scheme for voter verification.
Afaik, there has not been a systematic nationwide study of voter fraud. On a state by state basis there are some but with varying degrees of reliability. Ironically, Florida has a relatively fair system becuase anyone denied the ability to vote has an appeal process open to them. The most recent count of 4.847 alleged felons denied the right to vote had 2.470 judged not to be in fact convicted felons. Some counties in Florida have an excellent record such as Tallahassee County which checked each and every registered voter. More populous counties like Broward and Dade were more problematic and some perfectly proper voters were denied the vote BUT so were a number of convicted felons and illegal aliens. While somewhat burdensome, it has been proven possible for proper voters to establish their right to vote.

It is when illegal aliens (allegedly registered to vote) are looked at, that Reps., Dems and their various friends and allies get emotional. The Dems. like to scream: "Racism" and "Voter Suppression" and the Reps. like to scream: "Fraud". Without a systematic study, all that exists are a few state-wide surveys that have generally found some convicted felons registered. They have also found some people registered in more than one state and several hundred thousand illegal aliens and legal aliens registered to vote. As to how many aliens are actually registered, no one knows and all that exists at present are estimates and educated guesses.
A reasonable guess is that there are well below a million aliens, both legal and illegal , actually registered.

    Exactly!

If it wasn't that way then they wouldn't insist on using a method that has nearly a 50% failure rate. They would want to use something that actually works instead. But they don't want that because it would be much harder to manipulate to their favor.

If the verification fails, the local elections board is notified and sends a letter to the voter to come in and fix the error. Only if they don't do this before election day are they "turned away".

But they're not actually turned away, they can fill out a ballot and turn it in, sort of like an "in person" absentee ballot. Then they have two more days to correct the error at the election board and their ballot is counted.
Yes, I agree with that if it actually works that way. However, this BS happened to me and I was NOT notified beforehand. I had to fill out the provisional ballot which made not a damn bit of difference as the election was called hours later. That's why I'm so adamant about this.

Voting is both a right and a responsibility. I have my voter registration card in my wallet. I know where my precinct is, because I vote more than once every 4 years. Everyone should have made sure they were registered during the primarys. Coming to the party late and expecting a government agency to be efficient is just foolish.

No. George Bush was named the winner hours after the polls closed.

Well I had moved so I had to change address and thus my registration. This happens to people all the time. It's great that you have never moved and never had to change your name or anything like that but other people do and we should expect the government to be able to accommodate things like that.

Miss Luscious, I do move. I also go to the Secretary of State and get my change of address for my drivers license and they ask me if I want to register to vote in my new district.

Sigh... you are missing the point. I was personally affected by the inability of these people to have my correct information. I did everything you have done and yet I was still fucked up. This happens to people more often than you think and the current way of handling it is not working out so well. That's all I'm saying.

It's not "foolish" as you say to expect them to have your correct information if you have given it to them previously. You're acting like it's the voter's fault (because apparently you are very on top of your shit and it's never happened to you therefore they must be doing something wrong and they are dumb)and it is not.

Miss L, I am truly sorry that you are having problems with your voter registration. I do hope that you are able to get this corrected so that you can cast a ballot for the canidates of your choice. I also believe that the state governments should be competent enough to reslove any problem with a minimum of hassle for their citizens.

The problem is, I've seen a lot of predictions that this election will have the highest turn out in decades. The voter registration drives are bringing a lot of new and lapsed voter into the system and your problem is most likely being lost in the crush. Again good luck .

Hang on a sec; not all convicted felons aren't able to vote.

Some of them have their civil rights restored and are able to vote and hold public office, as well as carry firearms as well as other civil rights.

That's the way it should work. If you can bring such documentation to prove you are who you say you are then you should be able to vote. The way they do it has an almost 50% failure rate. Why don't people check that on their own, BEFORE they are supposta vote?

I moved recently as well, but the very day I was able to legally vote, I took my driver's license, ss card, copy of my lease, as well as copies of my utility bills for proof of ID as well as proof of where I lived. It wasn't hard, nor was it stressful or anything. Took me all of 5 mins max; and now all I will have to do is show my ID when I show up to vote.

Hubby had to bring his military ID, driver's license, as well as his paperwork from the state where his civil rights were restored, so he could register to vote.

By who? If you're talking the '00 election, nothing was finalized till Christmas, if memory serves me.

The news networks project winners as soon after the polls close as possible but :

    1. they are projections, nothing official
    2. they can ( and have) been wrong.

Hopefully, you'll be square by 11/4 and be prepared for future elections. I don't think anyone wants to see anyone disenfranchised but I , for one, don't want to see ineligible voters allowed to vote.

Personally, I think there should be other minimum requirements to be able to vote, but that's a whole 'nother topic.
