    Default water on the knee??

hey ladies. I have been having on-and-off problems with my left knee for about 11 months now. i got fed up and finally went to the doctor this past january and had x-rays and an MRI on my knee. the doctor told me that there was nothing wrong with the knee except for a little bit of fluid in it. he did not recommend draining it, as it was not that serious. he said if the pain persisted, i could get a cortizone shot...but i didn't really want to do this so i took about 2 weeks off from work and my knee was pain-free. I went back to work and sure enough, within two weeks, the knee was killing me again. my question is, have any of you ladies had anything similar? did you get the knee drained? I have seen my friend's knee when she had water in it and it was all squishy around the knee cap. mine does not look like that and she said that she doesnt think mine is that serious. i am only planning on dancing for another month or two, so do you think maybe my knee will be able to heal on its own? i have heard horror stories of girls having to have their knees drained multiple times from reaccumulation of fluid

I have problems similar to that in my right knee, and dancing or not, I have to get a cortisone shot in it from time to time.....you can't do much on it for two days after but after that it does not give me ANY problems for 3 to 6 months

I get my left drained twice a year, and my right once yearly.

I tried the shots once, and it did help, but my Dr. didn't want me to get too used to them since they can damage more in the long run. (or so he said)

So once every 4 months or so I take a week or so off and deal with being stuck on the couch, lol.

Ladies, could it possibly help the OP if she asked managment to not let her dance on stage? That would cut down on alot of knee pressure right?

Im going to do a search and see if I can find my threads from my knee issues lol. The girls had some great advice.

I have MAJOR issues with my right knee. I have broken cartlidge that rubs together causing blood to build up on my right knee. There was a point where I was having it drained once a week. Finally they injected steroids into it and i've been issue free with my knee for about 9 months now. Getting one injection wont cause any damage.

Also what has helped me is if my knee does start to get tender I put on a brace and wear thigh high boots to cover it so customers don't even notice. Or you can just sports wrap it and put boots on.

Also if you go on stage have a super thick fuzzy blanket that you crawl on to help take pressure off it.

Knee issues are NOT something you want to play around with. I ignored my sore knee for the longest time when it was just water. Now its blood and broken cartlidge. Don't fuck with it or you will end up like me lol.

I have issues with that (right knee) and the shots help but I usually end up getting it drained. Rest is the best thing you can do, but if you are stopping dancing within a month it shouldn't get horribly worse. Just be careful. However maybe just take it easy...cut down your shifts?

As far as not dancing on stage that could help a bit but can't you just hear the bitching from the other dancers?

Maybe try getting another opinion from another doctor? One friend and one doctor may not have all the answers.

What's going on that the knee has to be drained? Has all the cartlidge been worn down? Or is it from tendons or ligaments that are malfunctioning?

I wonder if the OP's shoes might have too high an incline or other design issue (like one shoe being more worn down than another) that is making the knee worse?

I had a friend with that in the elbow from tennis and he got it drained once and it sucked at the time (he also had needle phobia though) but never had to go again. And kept playing tennis. If you're not terrified of needles you will be fine.
