    Default EC Stack

So, I read a couple threads on the body building forum and a couple posts in member boards but I'm not real sure what this is.

I know What E and C are but is it two seperate pills or can you get them together. I think it's one pill? For those that are taking it, are you also taking an additional Caffeine pill?

An EC stack is two different pills, you combine 25mg of ephedrine (which is the e) with 200mg of caffeine (c). Since you would already be taking caffeine i would not suggest any more as it can make you feel very very jittery. You take this stack two times a day, i would start with only one stack a day & see how you feel first.

Before ephedra was banned (and then sorta kinda unbanned), most formulas like Hydroxycut and Xenadrine would have it combined into one pill, usually for astronomical prices.

You can get caffeine pills for el cheapo on Amazon, or just drink black coffee. As for the ephedra, you can find it most easily in asthma medicine. A box of Primatene tablets from Wal-mart has 12.5mg of ephedrine per tablet, and costs something like $8 for 60 tablets. They do also contain 200mg of guaifenesin, which is an expectorant, but won't affect you (I mainly found I could breathe easier, which of course is the point of the medication, but came in handy when participating in vigorous exercise).

Anyway, as was already stated, start out with one dose and gradually work your way up to two. Don't take it for several hours before bed, or just before exercise, and monitor your condition carefully to make sure you don't have any side effects like heart arrhythmia or a racing heartbeat. You'll probably notice some jitters (mainly from the caffeine, especially if you don't consume much habitually) and your heart rate will increase a few beats per minute. You should otherwise not feel at all unhealthy, so if you DO, don't take it again.

When I take it, I would take one Primatene tablet with half a caffeine tablet. I normally don't consume caffeine (not a coffee-drinker, only occasional pop) so I got the jitters, but otherwise felt fine. My normal resting heartrate is about 60 beats per minute, and it stayed about that. I found it to be a very good means of suppressing the appetite and for killing the 4:00 nap monster, so that it was a lot easier for me to stick to a healthy diet and for being motivated to work out. It didn't lose the weight for me by any means, though. It just gave an edge.

Is the Primatene something on the shelves or over the counter? If so do you just ask for it with no questions asked?

This looks interesting. It does boost your metabolism as well as suppressing appetite, though, right? I would worry that my metabolism would rebound from the temporary boost by slowing down later on. I've read about women's metabolisms slowing after they've taken diet pills for a while. Aviendha (or anyone else), do you think that this is a valid concern with EC stack?

It's "behind the shelf" meaning you have to bring the little card up to the pharmacy and you can only buy 2 boxes a month (so they know you're not making meth with it), but yeah, it's OTC. You wouldn't get questioned for it any more than you would for buying Tylenol.

It does boost your metabolism a LITTLE...but not much. Like I said, it didn't lose weight for me. I didn't find myself suddenly losing weight while not changing anything else about my activity level or diet. But it does make a good appetite suppressant. I spent longer periods not being hungry, and thus was able to fight cravings more effectively, and I was less prone to carb-crashing and pigging out. And it gave me energy. If I wanted to go to the gym after work, I would take it at 2pm. Then when 4:30 rolled around, where normally I would be dragging my ass and wanting to go home and eat Cheetos and nap, I felt energized and ready to work out. That's what I mean by it giving you an edge.

The thing about ephedra that makes it such a good fat-burner is that when taken with caffeine (and aspirin, to round out the stack, though it's not required), it preserves muscle tissue significantly better than other fat-burners, or so I read in a study.

The down side, of course, is the side effects, such as the increase in heart rate and blood pressure, and the jitters. In a healthy and fit person (meaning someone who exercises regularly and/or isn't significantly overweight), it won't be a problem because their cardiovascular health is already good. But in a significantly overweight (50+ pounds) or obese person, or someone who hasn't exercised in a couple years or more, it can cause a big strain on their system, particularly if (as people tend to do) they take MORE than the recommended dose and/or try to do more than they ordinarily are capable of. That's when you get people dropping dead from heart attacks.

So, basically, use it intelligently and you'll be fine.

^^^I see. That looks great! It's next on my list if the acidophilus doesn't work. Thanks for all the information, Aviendha.

(I too fell for the fake hoodia for a while, and while my appetite was suppressed a little, I think it was a placebo effect. Luckily, I had made a bulk purchase of a high-demand brand, and sold the rest on Ebay, so I actually made a profit on the whole adventure.)

I find that the acidophilus is more effective for appetite suppressing--though, don't get me wrong, the Primatene works too. But where the Primatene makes you care less about your hunger, the acidophilus makes you not hungry. I take one and man, I forget I even have a stomach. It's also comparatively very cheap, and comes in nice, easy-to-swallow pills, not giant uncoated horse pills. Since Primatene and acidophilus work on entirely different principles, I see no reason why you couldn't take them both and see if you get an extra-super-power appetite killer. Just remember that you SHOULD eat something every couple hours to keep your metabolism up. There's no point in going to the trouble if you accidentally kill your metabolism by eating once a day. (Says the woman who forgot to eat all day.)

You know how you go to the pain-reliever section of Target (or Wal-mart, since Target doesn't sell Primatene), and some stuff is on the counter, but others have a card that you have to present to the pharmacist in order to receive? That's the card I mean. Like I said, it's for products that people have historically used in bulk quantities to make meth, so now you're limited on how many boxes you can buy, and they usually scan your driver's license so you can't go 15 places and buy one box at each place.

But that's the only reason they do it. It's not because you're secretly not allowed to use Primatene. It's not a prescription medication and they're not going to make you prove you have asthma before they let you buy it.

Acidophilus is the bacteria in yogurt that flourishes in your intestines and promotes healthy digestion. You can supplement these bacteria (which occur naturally in your body already) by eating live-culture yogurt or by taking an acidophilus supplement. You can buy it pretty much anywhere with a vitamin section, but the quality differs. The stuff at Target is usually 1 billion organisms per pill, whereas the ones I got at Whole Foods are 3.4 billion per pill, and the cost was the same (or even less--different brands had different prices).

I bought some cheap $6 acidophilus with 900,000 organisms per pill, and did not get the appetite suppressant effect (even taking two). I have a feeling they were old and no good anymore anyway. (It IS supposed to be a live culture.) And a few people in the acidophilus thread mentioned that they bought Jarrow and found it to be a good brand, so that's what I looked for.

Oh, and to quell any "more is better" thoughts, even one package of Primatene contains 30 full doses of ephedrine, each of which is equivalent to a full serving of the old-style Hydroxycut (when combined with caffeine, sold separately). Trust me, one box is plenty. In fact I used to buy old-style Hydroxycut, and now I feel totally stupid that I could've been paying $12 for the same thing instead of $50.

I've never bought any medical stuff at wal-mart. Do you have to get this card from a doctor or is it something they give you after you fill out some papers?

I never took it long enough to experience a stalling effect. I didn't take very much, usually only a half dose (one Primatene tablet and half a caffeine pill) about an hour before working out--just enough to give me energy when I needed it, and take the edge off my cravings. You do build a tolerance over time so eventually you may require a full dose, or 1.5 doses, to get the same effect if you take it on a daily basis for a long time (or if you have a caffeine habit already), but I never got to that point.

I suppose you could follow the old Hydroxycut regimen, too: one dose per day for one week, two doses per day for the second week, 3 doses per day for the third week...but that is a LOT of stimulant. Honestly, I would recommend taking only as much as necessary, both to avoid side effects and to make sure you DON'T suffer a metabolic bounce when you go off.

The card is right on the shelf along with the products, hanging on one of those little hanger-things. It's just a plastic card with a picture of the Primatene box (or Sudafed, or Robitussin) on it, and there are usually several hanging up. You just take one and give it to the pharmacist, he gives you a box (or more likely, sells it to you there) and you're done.

They have these at Target, Walgreens, CVS, etc. too. It's basically just a placeholder to show that they do in fact sell the product, you just need to ask for it.

Be very careful with this supplement. This is what kills athletes on a regular basis. Young and otherwise healthy people can die from using this supplement.

Ephedra has been banned in most of the states. You can still buy it in a few places and of course on the internet.

Well...it doesn't kill athletes on a regular basis, unless they take 3x the recommended dose and go run around for 6 hours on a 103-degree day. Of course, running around for 6 hours on a 103-degree day will kill you too even if you don't take so much as a baby aspirin.

I should be clear that the active drug is ephedrine, a synthetic form of ephedra, more stable and less prone to side effects. It is perfectly legal in the States and, as I've mentioned, sold at Walmart to anyone who wants it. As with any medication, you should use caution while using it.

The stack is also highly addictive. Honestly, it's not even necessary. Aviendha gave good tips on another thread (or was it this one? I'm getting sleepy). If those don't work, manipulate your protein:carb:fat ratios.

    Default Re: EC Stack

I never found it to be addictive, just because the pills taste kinda crappy. But yeah, people do end up getting hooked (probably because of the caffeine, I bet) and finding that they gain weight going off. That's why I always made a point of only taking it when I needed a little extra kick to stay on track, and why I recommend using it for that purpose, but not considering it a substitute for, or a significant contributor to a diet/exercise regimen. It really isn't, or shouldn't be.

And really, no fat-burner is, even the best ones. The amount of metabolic boost you get from the stimulant is pretty tiny compared to what you get from half an hour of cardio, so if you have to pick one, obviously pick the cardio and save your money. But if you're looking for a cheap, effective EC stack, then Primatene and a bottle of caffeine pills (or a shot of espresso) is about as cheap as you can find, and you won't have to worry about the quality of what you're getting.

it's actually called an ECA stack- ephedrine, caffeine and aspirin.
"Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."

I agree with aviendha, i never found it to be addictive, but then again everyone is different. The reason i prefer a ec stack to weight loss pills is that it really does work well, it gives me great appetite suppression & a lot of energy, it makes being on the treadmill so much easier for me because of the energy i get. not to mention it's a lot cheaper than diet pills, that really don't work.

The only difference for me is that i did lose weight while taking this. As for an ECA stack, the A is for aspirin but you don't need it. It works just fine for me without it.
