Default Clothing that is BF'ing compatible

I was organizing my closet earlier today and realize that I really don't have any "after pregnancy/breastfeeding" clothes. All the books I've read say button up tops are good, dresses are bad. I've been hesitant to buy any clothes for after the birth because I'm afraid my new tatas won't fit (they're currently between 36-38 D & DD). I'll probably pick up a couple nursing camisoles, but apart from that, I am really clueless.

Any rec's on brands, styles, or BFing in general are very, very welcome.

Dresses are bad because you either have to pull your whole boob out the top or yank your skirt up over your hips, neither a very classy look lol!!

I never owned any breastfeeding clothes, other than bras that unhook, very handy. Anything slightly stretchy on top is fine, I dont really get into button up shirts myself, I find a not super tight fitting top with a bit of give in it to be the best bet. You can lift it up, pop your nipple out the bottom, babies head covers all exposed flesh and you are good to go! No need to get a whole bunch of dorky clothes that you will only wear for a short amount of time. Apart from dresses, when I know I will have to breastfeed in public, I wear pretty much what I normally would.

I never bought any nursing tops or even bras. I would wear a regular wireless bra with any button up top over it (I just pulled my breast out of the bra). Then I would just grab a baby blanket or a wrap for added privacy. If I had a special occasion to go to I may have invested in something specifcally made for nursing mommies but for everyday wear those clothes are expensive.

i searched when i was pg and came up with bugger all.

i bought two from ebay but they were crap.

in the end, i went with very stretchy things that i could yoink around. it doesn't matter as much about popping a boob because you're likely to have a wrap covering you or whatever when the baby feeds.

tops with those elastic-shirred-type parts are good.

at home... who cares, whip 'em out, baby!!

i wore proper nursing bras at first because the engorgement cycle was totally unpredictable.

i eventually moved back to wires after a few months. (probably naughty but i've had no issues).

the one thing no one told me is this:

they BOTH let down at once even if the baby is feeding on one side. so you can be out and get a soaked top on the other side if you're not prepared.

breast pads only go so far - so be warned (especially if you have a monster let down like i did).

i hope this is useful... i think i'm running at the mouth.

    ^^^^

Menstrual pads cut in half and shoved down ytour bra helps more than nursing pads.

After the first few months I found pressing down on the non used nipples stopped it 'letting down' the milk. TMI?? hope not!! I wear wire bras too now sometimes (at nine months) Nothing wrong with it! get a low cut one and just pop your boob out the top!! I htink in the early days when you are engorged you need to be wary of cutting off milk ducts and getting Mastitis (spl?) but after a while it doesnt matter so much.

I went with regular low-cut bras that I could pop my boob out of the top of, saved a ton of money and aggravation (those nursing bras are a pain in the ass).

For shirts I just went with low cut tops with some stretch. Motherhood actually had a few nice ones. Those openings under the boob are just weird to me. Carry a blanket and use it to cover up with or wear a loose fitting top (peasant tops are my fav) and pull up the bottom.

Oh, and I second Flick6's idea about pressing down on your nipple to avoid letdown. I do this all the time. Just discretely press your palm straight in against your nipple when you feel your letdown coming on, stops it everytime.
