    Default Panlor

This is what my Dr called in for the pain from my surgery....I've never heard of it. I'm reading about it online..but is there anyone who has actually taken it and can share real life experiences? How strong is it? Will this work on someone like me with an excessively high tolerance??

The pain meds I've been on(to give you an idea of how things work with me):

Percoset...did nothing except make me sick
Tramadol: I can take a bottleful and it has no effect at all
Vicoprofen: Helped a little...took the pain down to a tolerable level, but didnt get rid of it.

I can also take xanax,klonopin,valium...by the bottleful and its like tic tacs. So when I say high tolerance..I really mean it. Part of that is because of my pancreatitis...meds dont absorb into my system the way they are supposed to. I've woken up in the middle of surgery before while they dosed me again..total dose was enough to knock out someone 3 times my size.

    Any info would be appreciated!

I'm not going to be much help here as this is a drug I'm not familiar with. The only thing I could find that might be useful is that dihydrocodeine (the narcotic ingredient) is 100-150 times stronger than regular codeine.

So with my history would you think it would work on me? Why would he not give me the vicoprofen he gave me before that I know at least works a little?

If it is something you haven't had before, maybe you won't have as much tolerance as you have to other things? Only my best guess. Perhaps your doc could answer better.

boxingdoc...if you see this...how long does this take to work? I took one about 20-30 minutes ago and I'm still doubled over in pain. I dont want to take another if this still has a chance of working...I dont have any refills and it was expensive so I would rather take them sparingly. But DAMN...I'm dying here...

It happened to me too with Demerol. I kept asking for more and more because I could still feel stuff. Also, youre not supposed to remember the surgery with a Demerol IV but I remember EVERYTHING. Ick.

Neither here or there, Cam I would call him and tell him the meds aren't working...explain about the panceriatitis. If he absoultely won't budge on giving you your meds, see if you can find a regular citizen who might be able to get you some. There is no reason to suffer needlessly bc you dont have the right script right!

Yep. When I had my ERCP for my pancreas they gave me a shot of something(it was a HUGE needle with pink liquid that hurt so bad going into my vein that I cried with the huge tube down my throat) that they said was really strong and should knock me out for hours. The procedure took about 40 minutes and I woke up in the middle and had to be dosed again.

THEN...in recovery...nobody told me that the procedure itself could cause a pancreatitis attack.I had the worst attack of my life on the recovery table...I was actually seizing uncontrollably from the pain. My Dr told them to give me a shot of something for it (dont remember what) and if I still had any pain to give me another shot in 15-20 minutes. 5 minutes later I was still seizing uncontrollably and he yelled "give her another shot NOW". Sucked ass. Really bad.

He knows I have it. He doesnt know anything about it though (hes an ob/gyn and has admitted he knows little about the disease). He wont give me anything else I can almost guarantee it. Esp since its been almost a week since my surgery(I had some vicoprofen left so I took that before getting this filled today since I didnt know if this would work).

And I dont know any "private citizens" to get anything from that I would trust. Not that I have any $$ for that anyway...I used my last $35 to get this filled and who knows if I'll make anything tonight if I can even stand to work in this much pain.

Boo!! I swear it's easier to get heroin than a precription you need sometimes. I'm sorry girl I wish I had some better advice.

QFT!! Its insane. I've been to several different Dr's and its well documented by now that I have 3 different conditions that cause chronic pain. At least 2 of which are incurable. What about that makes any Dr think I DONT need pain meds to live a life that doesnt consist of me curled in a ball on my bed shaking in pain???

I REALLY wish there was a blood test or something to confirm if someone is an addict or not so those of us who arent could get our meds without jumping through a million fiery hoops. Strap me to a lie detector..I dont care.

Sorry. I'm just getting to this...I just got off work and was hitting up SW to decompress.

I know it's too late to help, but for help in the future, I typically expect any oral medication to take about 60 minutes to kick in. With the meds you are on now, have you tried two tablets instead of one?

    I'm sorry you are hurting.

Thanks! I havent tried taking 2 at a time. I was hesitant to do that. Though I took 4 over a 12 hour period yesterday and got nothing from it.

Its just really frustrating that Dr's cant or wont understand what high tolerance and chronic pain mean.

What would you do if you had a patient like me?

Eh, you wouldn't like me too much. In my line of work, I deal with hardcore drug seekers who have every story in the book and top it off with crocodile tears, so it takes a lot to move me. If I thought your story was credible, I would give you 24 hours of whatever I thought would be helpful and tell you to follow up with your regular doc.

Have you talked about a fentanyl patch with him? One patch lasts three days.

    Ugh! SOFT (((HUGS)))

I do understand boxingdoc's statement. Drug seekers ruin things for everyone- my friend has chronic back pain and is always running out of meds. Horrible.

If it makes you laugh CKXXX when I had a burst ovarian cyst and felt like Death all over, I almost told my best friend to go out and score some drugs for me. But I was too delirious to really make her do it so it so I passed out on the futon instead. That sucked.

Yeah. I've had druggies argue this point to death to (on here even). They dont even know what hell their recreational use has on those of us with legitimate needs for certain medications.I'd be happy as hell to NOT need them. I hate taking meds not to mention that they are DAMN expensive. People who take them for fun have no idea how lucky they are to not NEED them. I wish I could transfer my illnesses to them for a day so they could understand what people like me actually live with every day.

I kind of understand your situation. When I was sick I was in pain during every waking hour (the level of pain would vary from time to time.) Long story short if it hadn't ended I would have committed suicide. The main thing that kept me going was the anger I felt about the entire situation, if that makes any backwards-fucked-up sense (my wrath kept me alive.)

I forgot to suggest this sooner, acupuncture and Chinese medicine. PM me for more details.

I would perhaps seek a different doctor who is more sympathetic to your pain tolerance.

I am a recovering addict, who has Hepatis C as a result of my using, and as for the comments that we ruin it for everybody, please understand that addiction to is a disease, and it is something most addicts need to work on daily to stay away from using. People with long term clean/sober time usually are in Narcotics Anonymous, or AA and attend several meetings weekly, work the 12 steps, and suffer from a mental disease where drugs and alcohol are sought as to escape. Many of us aquire other diseases while in our addiction

I have several friends in the medical field, they all say they can spot out the addicts. (usually very dramatic, going to several docs for RX's etc)

I would hope that you could find a doctor who would recognize your tolerance or take the time to research your pancreatic disorder so that you may recieve the relief you need for your pain. Also because people with no history of addiction may develop a physical addiction to a narcotic, docs are also hestitant to give out stronger meds, or larger doses.

Im not sure what insurance you have, but if this is only your obgyn, maybe you can find someone who is a pain specialist who can help you.

hope you find some relief soon.

^^ I didnt mean to offend...I'm not talking actual addicts..I'm talking about the people who think it is fun to take prescription drugs to party with. The girls in the dressing room that talk about how fun it is to get fucked up on xanax or painkillers and who arent addicts(at least not yet). They dont understand that these drugs are used for actual conditions and arent just party favors (like coke or something that doesnt have an actual medical use)

I've had my meds stolen from me, I've had girls call me a bitch because they found out somehow that I take something and I wont share..even though I try to explain that I'm not getting fucked up..that I actually NEED them for a reason. They dont get it because in their world..these are things you take to have fun.

I've had friends who sadly became addicted after they were prescribed certain meds..one in particular whos marriage, career and life were destroyed. I have the utmost sympathy for them...they didnt do anything but what their Dr's told them to do and were blindsided by addiction.

Unfortunately every Dr I've ever seen doesnt understand when I tell them that I have a high tolerance and that meds dont absorb the way they should (so I only get a fraction of the drug into my system) and look at me like I am just trying to get more or stronger drugs to feed an addiction. Its infuriating and I wouldnt wish it on anyone.

I've seen a pain specialist...but he(and all I've found) only deal with back pain and not pain that stems from internal organ conditions. They dont know much about that and therefore dont understand what I am going through.

Do you have pain daily? Or is this something that has flared up and will pass?

My grandmother had pancreatic cancer, and they say that is one of the most painful cancers, so I can imagine you probably experience very severe pain that is similar. She would double over because the pain was so bad, and was taking morphine daily.

Im suprised they havent prescribed oxycontin to you. I have a friend who has a prescription just for her migranes.

I really hope you are able to find something to help!
