so - i figure i've got up to 10 years before i go wholly electric, by choice or whatever, but i'm curious on thoughts as to the best small car in the world...
not too small...
but good on fuel and emissions...

my friend has a yaris. she LOVES it. she is clocking at about 50 city miles per gallon. houston city. yaris's are CHEAP.
i would get a prius but my husband thought it was too girly. so i went with an accord.

I have a brand new mini cooper!! I love it. It looks small but it's spacious ont he inside. I dont feel like i've driving a small car at all. It was also the only small car to get a 5 star safety rating by Australian standards.
There are many stereotypes about the industry that I work in. Sometimes they can be true but human beings are very diverse creatures and cannot be pigeon-holed into one category.
Some of the most effortlessly beautiful, kind, intelligent, successful, motivated, driven and ridiculously hilarious women that I have ever met have been dancers. I've met the best friends that I've ever had in this industry.

i have an aveo, i get about 35 mpg and they're pretty cheap
I drive (er did drive before the seizure) a 2006 Hyundai Elantra.
The gas milage is amazing.![]()

another advantage of having a small car ( i dont know if its true for all of them) but mine hasn't lost much value. i paid 10k for my car and its an 04'. i checked kbv of it and the trade in value of it with my mileage is like 7000 :-)

I have a 2000 civic. It gets pretty good gas mileage, but I've had a lot of problems with the car itself, although Honda's are known to be good cars.
Early 90's Geo Metro 3 cylinder version gets something like 49 mpg highway and 43 mpg city. They are for sale usually around $2500 in good shape.

eh... the gas mileage isn't that good.... it's advertised as 32 I think on the sticker.... but if you go to fueleconomy.org the actual MPG is MUCH less.
If I had a choice... I would drive a prius, but not counting hybrids I think that the new VW rabbits are pretty nice, my friend has one. Also- VW jettas, honda civics are awesome too.
honda civic would be my #1 choice... hondas are great cars.
"Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."

I have a Nissan Versa SL hatchback and I get about 32mpg (but then I routinely drive 70 on the highway). I really like it. It's really roomy on the inside, surprisingly so. Good cargo space, quiet and smooth ride. I dig it.

New or older?
I love my new Mazda 3
If I was buying an older car then Nissan Pulsars are great

Smart ForTwo. 50+ mpg, starting at 11,600. I love mine. LOVE.

where does one keep one's boobies?
^^ Aren't they? I still have a bit of a hard time parking (I've had the car 3 months) because the steering is really responsive, and the car just plain seems like it should be bigger than it is. (And I drove my previous car for 9 years, so I'm still fighting old habits.) So I usually end up a little crooked or way at the end of the spot. On the other hand, I can fit into ANY spot, and parallel parking is a snap.
The other thing about it is that the SL automatic option is a CVT, or Continuous Variable Transmission, not a 4-speed (the auto option on the S level). So there are no 'gears' and no obvious shifts when you accelerate, nor does the engine seem louder or to be working harder at higher speeds. Which makes for a very smooth ride, but sometimes I'll be cruising along and look at my speedometer and oops, I'm going 80! Still getting used to that too. *heh*
I see a LOT of Honda Fits, which get about the same mileage as the Versa (I think 33 to Versa's 32) but only has 109 horsepower. Versa gets 127. I'm no speed demon (well, okay, I have a heavy foot but I don't need to race at stoplights), but I still like a little power.
The Yaris is a cute car, but the thing that really bothered me was that the dashboard isn't behind the steering wheel, it's in the center of the dash, between the driver and passenger seat. I just didn't care for that at all. But EVERY time I see someone mention a Yaris, it's been followed by, "and I/they *LOVE* it!" so it must be a good car.
