I'm an RN working in a hospital. One of my coworkers brought in her 14-year old daughter, as Hurricane Ike has left them without power. She took advantage of the opportunity to teach her daughter a few lessons. She took the kid on a tour of the floor, concentrating on:
1) A 21 year old former model who had OD'd herself into a vegetable on recreational drugs. All she can do is moan in pain once in a while. She needs botox to prevent her muscles into contracting to the point where they could potentially break her bones.
2) A 21-year old guy who is now a quadriplegic due to a motorcycle accident. The poor kid is completely alert and is trapped in his body.
3) A 56-year old lifelong smoker with chronic emphysema who gets winded just pulling himself up in bed and coughs so badly I sometimes wonder if his lungs will come up.
At the end of the tour, the kid's eyes were the size of dinner plates. She has sworn to every deity that she will not smoke, do drugs, or ride a motorcycle. Mission accomplished.

It makes you overlook certain character flaws and bad behavior .
