maine is so beautiful! where are you going there? i have only been there in aug. and sept. but it is so beautiful. outside of Machias Maine is pebble beach. it is so gorgeous. the water on the shore sounds like a rain stick cause it washes up onto millions of smooth pebbles. anywhere downeast maine is fabulous. in between? all kinds of places. especially in new england its nice to get off the interstate and take state highways. the towns are so sweet. have fun. say hi to maine for me. n dallas haha.

Nowhere. Sorry, I'm not being a smartass (well maybe a little lol), but Maine in October is already pushing the COLD factor. I lived there 5 years and it gets really cold really fast in the fall, and can even snow in October esp. late October--fall is like 3 weeks long there, it's winter already by November. And if you are coming from Texas your blood will be thinned and it will bother you more.
So stop on the way back!
Upstate New York is beautiful esp. around Lake Champlain/Ft. Ticonderoga...

are you looking for places to dance along the way?

No, dancing just vacation.

That sounds like a lovely roadtrip! I haven't been up that way since I was a kid, but I remember I really liked the Amish country in Pennsylvania, and Vermont was gorgeous. You can get the most delicious maple candy in Vermont, it's made out of crystallized maple syrup and it just dissolves on your tongue... so delicious, and I don't even like candy.

I second Yek's thoughts about Vermont...in fall, you can hardly believe there is a place so beautiful. The Rye area of New Hampshire, just beneath Maine, is also beautiful if you want to be at the ocean--the highway winds up along the sea, and the light is extraordinary, especially just at the end of the day...makes you feel very small, but very much a part of infinity.
I hope you'll enjoy your trip!

It is already freeeeezing in Maine. It is supposed to be a spectacular leaf season, if you like that sort of thing.
Hmmmmm, what route are you planning on taking from Texas?

Don't I know it...
It's been years but I sure remember those winters, which start like--right now lol!
Actually it's nothing like deep winter there yet, but for someone from Texas (where I also lived a few years) it's going to be noticeable alright.
Which is why I advise just hauling ass to Maine and sightseeing on the way back, for real!
