    Angry Need haircolor help NOW!!

Alright, so I've been using Garnier 100% Color for over a year now. No problems before. Then I decided to take some rather bad advice from a friend.

The directions say to do the lengths of your first, let that sit for 10 minutes and then apply the coloring to your roots and wait another twenty minutes. My friend suggested putting it all at once and leaving it on for two hours so that (and I quote) "the color will be more saturated and it will be even lighter".

Now my roots are practically orange!! I tried calling Garnier but as it is Sunday, their offices are closed. And their website was no help.

    What do I do?!?!?!

Please, please, please someone help me figure this out.

What color were you starting with and what color were you trying to achieve?

I was going from dark brown to a golden brown. The exact product I used was Garnier 100% Color Ultra-Lift Browns in UB-3 Golden Brown. It is starting to look a look a little better now that it's drying but not much. The roots are still way light, like orangey-blond. My so-called friend (I am so disowning her, lol ) is suggesting we go grab more of the same dye and just apply a bunch more to the lengths and ends staying well away from the roots to see if we can get it lighter and closer to the color thats at my roots.

    *sigh*

Sad Re: Need haircolor help NOW!!

Now my hair is dry and it while I'm not happy with it, it can be pulled into a ponytail and set aside while I figure out what to do, possibly ask a qualified professional to fix it. LOL, thank you for the suggestions and helping me out during my "crisis"!

Color cannot lift color. Therefor by putting it on the length of your hair it wont lift it - it will just trash it with chemicals. Tell your friend until she goes to cosmetology school to not give hair advise.

What happens when you color hair (esp box color) is it lifts the natural color then deposits its color. So, technically, everytime you put it on the length of your hair its not doing much (color doesnt life color). By leaving it on longer if lifted your roots (since they didnt have color on them) and pretty much bleached them.

You need to put color on your ROOTS ONLY. But since I know nothing about that brand or what color it is Im of no help (even with my license)

I've done this before and i've been successful just covering it up with Natural Instincts.....Just go a shade or two darker that your roots are currently to kinda even it out. It's always faded OK after that for me and I can go about things normally after that.

Of course, I'm not a professional, but that has been what worked for me when I had something similar happen. The reason I tried to correct it with Natural Instincts is because it wasn't as damaging, since it's not a permanent color. But it really did balance it out.

Audrey, THANK YOU!!! I'm certain you have just saved me from another half baked attempt to color my hair, lol.

I'm going to go to the salon on Tuesday and get it fixed. I actually really like the color my roots are! I want the rest of my hair to match. Do you think this is possible if I go get it done by a professional? Should I take the hair color box to show them what I was using?

No they wont need the box. They can figure out the color by just looking at it. They will match it.

Seems youll want a highlight if you like the root color. Theyll have to use bleach (since you have color on your hair) then tone it all to match. Its pretty easy to do - Ive done much much harder stuff before. Have fun and leave it alone til Tuesday!
