Default moving ?on for LV girls

    Hey Guys,

I'm considering moving to Vegas for more opportunities out there. My boyfriend of two years and I are moving together by next May. He works in trade show consulting, and generally ends up in Vegas anyway....however I will be going as a student, with very high out of state tuition costs....blah!

Anyway, I will be doing some club shopping around, but that's for another thread.....

Obviously, I'm going to save as much money as I can, but can anyone recommend some good areas, or places to avoid in LV?

I'm not really a party girl, so I don't care about being close to the strip all the time. I just want to find a quiet neighborhood, near campus, that is safe in case of crazy customer's from whatever club I end up working in.....or from seedy management and bad neighbors.

I've been looking on ApartmentFinder.com, and want something like a nice townhouse, ect....and it seems that they are reasonably priced at around $1200+....

Anywho.....what's taking me so long to get out is.....where are safe, close, college affordable places/neighborhoods/nearby towns to stay. I don't want to pull a "stripper" move and get the most expensive I can afford.....15,000 a year for college is where I'd prefer to put my money!

Also, any other advice to a upcoming Las Vegas resident???

    thanks gals!
    xoxo!

FYI there are no nearby towns its Vegas or nothing (unless you want to live in Henderson, of course) Try Summerlin (its a community) also try our community college prior to UNLV they have been rated higher than UNLV because the university is having a bunch of probs right now. Everyone seems to be taking as many classes at CSN that they can and using that time to convert to instate status; hence not having to pay out- of- state tuition. Another thing; every couple EVERY couple that I know, who moves here breakup and one of them moves back home. The temptations of Vegas simply cannot be emphasized enough, so just take your time and really research before you make up your mind.

See just the response I wanted! Thank YOU!!!

I was actually looking at Henderson, but it seems really far.....my bf said it could be worse because of traffic....

I was looking at different areas of Vegas, so, which is best, or safest? North, South, Northeast, ect???

I'm also not worried if we break up, he's great, but I'd like to move with or without him....this way, I have a travel companion!

For school, I think UNLV has the highest dropout rate in the country. Its a joke as far as education- great for hotel management, but not much else. As far as neighborhoods, anything but the north side. Summerlin is nice. Henderson is nice. You won't have any problem finding a good place to live but this is the last place I'd go for education.

If you go to CSN you'll have better neighborhoods to choose from. I would never live near UNLV. Summerlin rent ranges from 800-1300, 1-3 bedroom apts. You could probably rent out a house pretty cheap, just google vegas rental homes.

I currently live in North Las Vegas. It's definitely not as dangerous as people think it is. I live in an apt complex by Aliante and it's quiet and safe.

Just avoid anywhere below Craig and the 15 freeway, you'll be just fine.

yeah...and u get what u pay for. I hate that place. They not only charge tuition, but make you buyyour sylibus, the teachers arent allowed to give handouts, you have to copy them youself for .20 cents a page...what the fuck does tuition pay for? They fuck everythign up, screw up schedules, I have been enrolled in classes i never registered for while being not enrolled in the classes i did register for...i could go on and on. that school is terrible.

^^^depends on what degree you go for; they have a great dental hygiene program that got me in and out in two yrs with upwards of 70,000/yr earning potential.

    North Las Vegas scares me
Henderson and Summerlin are really nice, almost like you don't even live in Vegas. But traffic is a bitch.
Check out the areas south of the strip. Both SW and SE are nice. But traffic is still a bitch
PM me if you want, i don't want to post my address here LOL

^I agree north Las Vegas scared me too. When i lived in NV i used to live in Henderson, seven hills to be exact and i loved it there. The traffic wasn't that bad IMO but then again i used to live in Los Angeles so with that said nothing would be as bad as LA traffic to me.

I live Sumerlin a lot, I lived in a nice house there with four girlfriends... I believe our rent was 1800/mo but again it was a huge five bedroom house. You could get a small house for maybe 1000.

I also like the Decatuer Avenue area...I used to live in a really cute apartment right off Reno Ave right by Spanish Trails....we called our apartment Spanish Trailer (Spanish Trails is like a multi million dollar house neighborhood lol)

Stay away from the North Side for sure!! Anything north of Sahara (unless it's way north west or north east) is bad.

I live in North Las Vegas and Summerlin is not part of North Las Vegas. . As far as living in NLV It just depends if your on the west side of the I15 or the East side of I15. The east side of I 15 is the hood. The west side isn't that bad at all. I like it here. And I do not think it is dangerous at all. I don't live in the hood. I live in a very nice neighborhood with very mixed cultures. It is quiet, close to the freeway and 10-15 mintues drive to the strip. Where the hell does everyone keep getting the idea that all of NLV is the hood????

It doesn't matter where you live in Vegas. Bad shit happens everywhere. I used to live in the southwest and I had helicoptors always going around the neighborhood, shootings, drug dealers galore and high school kids breaking glass bottles all over the place and fucking on the side of houses after football games.

Green Valley, is nice, but kids get kidnapped walking home from school there too. I just like how green it is there.

The best advice I can give you, is to stay away from the East Side. The south, Henderson, Green Valley, North Las Vegas, Summerlin, Southern Highlands are all nice places. There are certain neighborhoods that are going to be good and neighborhoods, not so good in the same area. As far as North Las Vegas, Aliante is really nice. It's not ghetto. Just because your neighborhood isn't all white people doesn't make it a bad place to live.

I suggest waiting till you get out here to look around and then decide where you want to live. It's kind of hard to get an idea of this place if you're not here. And if you are going to spend that kind of money on rent, you'd probably be better off just renting a house, since you'll get a two car garage and a yard, depending on where it is. I pay $1400/mo right now for a four bedroom, 2700 sq foot house, with a big yard and a two car garage.

i have never lived in vegas myself but i do have friends there and have visited there several times. i always stay off the strip then go there if i want to have a good time but i would say Henderson is a good place.

someone else mentioned it too i think

isnt the unlv campus right by the strip off of flamingo? i assume that is where you will be going to school?
