    Default Over-Active Bladder

    I haz it.

If I drink a bottle of water, an hour later I'll have to pee like..3 times, practically minutes apart. If I drink a beer, that's an immediate 4-5 times, and I get up between 1-3 times a night. Drives me crazy, but I've been this way all my life.

So today I went to the urologist, who inserted a cannula into my urethra (that was fun), to see if I was emptying my bladder completely. He said I was, which was good, and the fact that I never "leak" urine and always make it to the restroom was good too, apparently. Regardless though, he diagnosed me with over-active bladder. He put me on a patch that is supposed to help with the urination frequency and said that if that didn't subside the need to go all the time, then we'd have to knock me out and maybe biopsy my bladder

Does anyone else have this? I just want it to end at "over-active bladder" and have it be nothing more. Is this the case for anyone else? Does anyone take meds for this condition?

I have that too, I think. The urologist I saw wanted me to do exercises to learn to make myself not have to go. Needless to say, that bs didn't work. I wanted to take a pill or something for it. I'll pee and then five minutes later I feel like I need to pee again. It sucks.

    ^I feel your pain.
Plus, it's plain embarrassing to have to excuse yourself again and again to use the bathroom when out with acquaintances. I don't know if that is anything exercises could ever cure..

I just thought it was a normal part of life for me. I pee constantly. I also wake up 3 ish times a night to pee. I pee before I leave anywhere and as soon as I arrive. I think I probably pee once every half hour and I just thought it was a normal part of life to pee out everything you drink as soon as you drink it..I never thought about over active bladder.

Does it also take youa long time to pee? Sometimes I'm sitting on the toilet for a half hour trying to opee because I didnt feel like it all came out and I have to pee more. My exbf always thought this was so strange of me because I'd be in the bathroom for so long trying to pee. but sure enough if I sit ther elong enough, more pee will come.

I'm a maintenence pee'r. I pee before I have to do anything. 2/3 times a night. God forbid I'm cold. If my mind is occupied it's not a problem. water & tea = P. When I get in the shower I feel the need. Pool usually = getting in and right back out to P.
I thought I had a problem for awhile. Maybe it was stress/ anxiety. tried some sample pills the dr. gave me and didn't like it. So now I just accept it.
If you're not leaking and you're emptying your bladder I say fuck it. Piss away. Maybe we just have small bladders?

Wow, I thought I was the only one getting up 2-3 times a night to pee. It's crazy. And if I lay in bed too long before falling asleep, my mind will tell me I have to pee again. And if we're watching tv, I go to the bathroom at almost every commercial break (well, maybe not every, but a lot).

^Me too, when I was dancing. Dumb me drank a lot too so that didn't help matters. I remember having to get offstage in the middle of a kick-ass set, having to call another dancer up to take over for me so I could run in the bathroom. Embarrassing.

Mare, what did you dislike about the pills? Maybe you are right, maybe we just do have small bladders..I am hoping it's that. I mean, I've always been this way..it's just a lil worse now though.
All I know, is I don't want to get knocked out so the can out a camera up my pee-tube.

Andy, I am a commercial-time pee'r as well. In addition to a nigh-time, during work, during car rides, during any significant or non-significant activity one.

    Small bladdere'd girls unite.

I don't know if I have an over-active bladder, but I have to get up and pee about 3-4 times a night, too. Also before I eat, before I leave the house, after I arrive at my destination--it's insane! I also drink like a gallon of water a day, though. DAMMIT! I have to pee right now!

I always figured getting up to pee was a necessary evil of staying hydrated! I don't have to pee multiple times or sit there half an hour (that would suck!) but if I drink a liter of water, yeah, I'll have to go once or twice in the next 30 minutes. And I usually drink at least 2 liters a day, plus another 16-20oz if I work out that day. The body processes water pretty fast, and bladders can only hold so much!

Hmmm, I am wondering if it was even necessary to go to a urologist since so many people have the same habits as me..

But do you guys have to pee like 5 times after a beer? Or 3 after a bottle of water? Granted, the pees are like an hour later, but it is still annoying and seems a lil excessive.

I have to pee a couple times after drinking a bottle of water, sure. I have a tendency to chug water and I know I don't have a 20 oz bladder! (Because then my bladder would be the size of a 20 bottle. Yikes!) I usually top out at about 80oz of water, total, for a day. More than that, and I am *constantly* peeing, especially later in the day and at night.

I mean, think about it. If you're hydrated, then you will pee out a pretty significant amount of what you drink. Well, even a 10oz piss would fill a coffee mug, and I just don't think it's realistic to expect yourself to hold a huge amount of liquid for a long period of time.

As long as you're not leaking or straining to urinate (as it sounds like some people are doing, and that would be an issue for concern), I wouldn't worry too much. You're supposed to drink a lot of water, and what goes in must come out!

Incidentally, Tycho Brahe, the astronomer, died because of complications of a ruptured bladder, which he suffered from holding it too long while at an audience with the Queen. Peeing FTW.

My boyfriend told me that he once visited a foreign country and didn't use the bathroom during the whole trip (from Finland to Estonia and back)! He thought the bathrooms in the ship etc. were so nasty that he decided to wait until he gets home. I cannot imagine doing that myself.

I once heard that an overactive bladder is usual among female teachers. When they go to the bathroom "just in case" whenever there's break (once in an hour or so) they become used to it and soon they really have to go that often.
