Ask the pharmacist.
Try to do things that will relax you. You must be really stressed out.
Hot shower b 4 bed and as your body cools down it will help. Xtra covers if it's cold there. And try taking a foot and rubbing it back and forth on the bed slowly until you get tired of it then do the other foot. This has a way of taking the tension out of the muscles.
Not sleeping sux. I know.
While I'm not sure about the potential medication conflict between Benadryl and an anti-depressant, Benadryl IS commonly used as a sleep medication. It's what's in the "PM" part of Tylenol PM, and it's also sold by itself as sleep medication. I think Tylenol makes a "sleep only" version, essentially Tylenol PM without the Tylenol, and you can get it in a generic, too. But ever since a friend of mine told me they were the same (which I confirmed by comparing the packaging), it's like, gee, 100 generic Benadryl pills for $5, or 25 "PM" tablets for $5. Duh!
I also have Atarax (which I was prescribed as part of an allergy regimen). It's an antihistamine and also an anti-anxiety medication, and is also a hydrochloride like Benadryl, but stronger. I've had a friggin' hell of a time sleeping, too, and take two of those a few hours before bed. Both Atarax and Benadryl allow me to sleep restfully and through the night (I have a hard time falling asleep, AND staying asleep), but both also have a noticeable hangover effect (tired/drowsy the next day), especially at first, so that can be a problem.
But one of these days I'm just going to have to see a doctor about the sleeping issue. I'd rather not just keep taking pills all my life unless I genuinely have to.
zoloft + benadryl = not ok. http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.php Apparently you're not supposed to take it with alcohol either. It looks like its ok with xanax. http://www.drugs.com/drug_interactions.php
I would reccomend using valerian root. it's a natural way to get sleep. i usually take it in pill form, but i've heard of people actually chewing on the root. idk, just google it and it should answer any questions if you have any.

I have been takign benedryl to sleep and it doesn't interact for me...
But the doc prescribed something for me now.

You can try kava kava as well. Most health food and vitamin stores have it in pill or tincture form.
Benadryl is fine once in a while but I've found that you build up a tolerance pretty quickly, so it's not that useful for long-term sleep problems. It's also a dissociative in large doses, which is a really unpleasant sensation (disconnection, dry mouth, ataxia). I'm not saying that you'd be taking handfuls of the stuff, but some people experience that at even smallish doses.
Seconding and thirding valerian and kava recommendation. I've always had better luck with natural sleep remedies. Valerian and its ilk don't necessarily knock you out, but in my experience they produce a much more natural sleepy sensation.
Insomnia is pooptastic and something I experience often. I hope you get some zzs soon! Good luck!
