Default Antivirus XP 2008-- help me!!

i have a virus on my computer called Anti Virus XP 2008.

I can do minimal stuff on the internet, but its kinda taking everything over.

It disguises itself as an anti virus program and wants you to buy the software to get it off. Its been robbing people for hundreds of dollars. If you try to unintstall it, the uninstall program 'encounters a problem'. Norton also doesn't work.

I can only get on the internet by typing in the address. If I were to use yahoo and clicked a link it sends me to some werido shit.

I don't have any important files on my comp, should I reformat it? and if so, how?

not true they are becoming more and more common with the growth of mac sales especially OS X and the new leapord.

I would re format, if you have all the disks your computer came with it is pretty easy.
PM me what disks you have or dont have and I can walk you thru formatting.

Go here and download, install and run this. It will remove that program.

    Fuck norton and mcafee.
Can you get to this? http://www.malwarebytes.org/

If you can, dl that and install it. Try to run it. This is the shortest way to fix your problem, but I don't know if you can get to the page.

    Here are the instructions:

    http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/malw...ivirus-xp-2008

Download Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware, or MBAM, from the following location and save it to your desktop:

    Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware Download Link

Once downloaded, close all programs and Windows on your computer, including this one.

Double-click on the icon on your desktop named Download_mbam-setup.exe. This will start the installation of MBAM onto your computer.

When the installation begins, keep following the prompts in order to continue with the installation process. Do not make any changes to default settings and when the program has finished installing, make sure you leave both the Update Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware and Launch Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware checked. Then click on the Finish button.

MBAM will now automatically start and you will see a message stating that you should update the program before performing a scan. As MBAM will automatically update itself after the install, you can press the OK button to close that box and you will now be at the main program

On the Scanner tab, make sure the the Perform quick scan option is selected and then click on the Scan button to start scanning your computer for Antivirus XP 2008 related files.

MBAM will now start scanning your computer for malware. This process can take quite a while, so we suggest you go and do something else and periodically check on the status of the scan. When MBAM is scanning it will look like the image below. (can't see unless you are at website above)

When the scan is finished a message box will appear

You should click on the OK button to close the message box and continue with the AntivirusXP2008 removal process.

You will now be back at the main Scanner screen. At this point you should click on the Show Results button.

A screen displaying all the malware that the program found will be shown

You should now click on the Remove Selected button to remove all the listed malware. MBAM will now delete all of the files and registry keys and add them to the programs quarantine.

When MBAM has finished removing the malware, it will open the scan log and display it in Notepad. Review the log as desired, and then close the Notepad window.

You can now exit the MBAM program.

Your computer should now be free of the AntivirusXP2008 program.

    I LOVE malwarebytes.

Let us know if you get this to work.

Glad it worked! Malwarebytes is the shizznit.
As rec'd above, make sure you have Spybot S&D also (free)
and an anti-virus. People usually rec AVG, but the newest version has some bugs I don't like, so I dropped it and got Avast instead. Either one should catch the remnants of the virus.

    Spybot link again:
    http://www.safer-networking.org/en/download/
    AVG
    http://free.avg.com/
    Avast
    http://www.avast.com/

If you get AVG, make sure you manually turn off the linkscanner option after you install..that's the big bug they have at the moment;takes up wayyyyyy too much cpu.

*IMPORTANT: You have to MANUALLY update both Malwarebytes and Spybot; so every day when you turn on your comp; just go ahead and update them then. Avast updates by itself. You can choose manual or automatic update for AVG.

If you cannot find the rest of the virus with these and are still having problems, download Hijack This http://www.download.com/Trend-Micro-...-10227353.html
and find one of the free computer forums. Run HJ and post your results, and usually someone will be able to figure out what is wrong for you.

Hope you can clean up the comp completely!

Should I get malwarebytes and spybot if I already have a virus protection? I have McAfee.

I heard a while back you shouldn't try to run two different virus programs since they can interefere with each other But it is ok for malware programs like malwarebytes and spybot. I use AVG for virus protection and three progrms for malware.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

I use McAfee as my main realtime protection.

Malwarebytes is for a specific virus.

There is no 'one program that does everything' out there. Aside from a main anti-virus, you should run spybot and adaware. I've had stuff that didn't show up on 2, but the 3rd got it.

I would also run a HiJack this and clear out the R0's and R1's.

I ran AVG as my main protection several years ago because that was the freeware that everyone recommended, and ended up having over 300 viruses and such on my computer. The IT guy wouldn't hook it up to the main comp, so I had to basically start fresh with a new reload and lost everything I had.

You can use both and more, but you only want ONE of them to be set for realtime protection. And you want to shut it off prior to doing a manual scan with the other(s).

In XP start menu, click on Run. Key in msconfig. Look above 'OK' button, you should see 'Launch System Restore''. Click on that and it will let you bring your computer back to the way it was on a prior day. I had a virus like you have and I found all my useful stuff in the Recycle bin. Good luck.
