Angry F Mascara In The A

ok. i've read just about every thread on mascara. i've tried just about every brand. i've gotten just about every tool known to man. and still, clump city, population: me

i have long eyelashes, but they're very thin and very fragile. also, there's about 4 of them on each eyelid. ok, that last part is a slight exaggeration, but they're sparse and the lengths kind of very. i have huge eyes and my eyelashes just don't match. as in, there's just not enough lash going on.

but every time i use mascara, it clumps. it sticks my whispy thin eyelashes all together. i tried combing them inbetween layers. i've tried conditioning them first. i give up. so far the best mascara i've found for me is max factor 2000 calorie, and even that still clumps.

every "expensive" brand i've tried was 127282 times worse. like too-faced lash injection. holy hell. once that stuff clumps there's no going back, because when you try to brush it out it just all slides off in a big plastic-tube shaped goop and, half the time, takes your eyelash with it. i don't need LESS eye lashes i need MORE.

urban decay big fatty insn't terrible with the clumping, but it doesn't thicken hardly at all. i love the black cherry color though. :/

i have not tried dior show. why? because i've read the biggest problem is clumping.. and i know if it's going to happen on anyone's lashes it's sure as hell going to be mine. and i'd really rather not buy another expensive tube of mascara and toss it after 1 use.

so why don't you wear fake eye lashes chrys? i've tried. my eyes are really big and my eyelids are very curved (think of a rainbow shape). i guess the curve is too much for fake eyelashes. they don't hold to that shape.

feh! anyone else have these issues? found a holy grail yet?

I have a problem with clumping and with mascara makign my eye lashes look really short and stubby...until I tried Rimmel Glam Lashes. It's really cheap, and I was amazed. So impressed, i bought 3 more tubes.
The brush is designed really great...you know how they came out with those lash combs but they really just made a mess? this is like the improved version of the lash comb, no clumping at all and I apply many layers, my eye lashes look long and fake and full, but no clumps at all. I really love this stuff.

And the best part? It's like, $4, so if you hate it, no big loss. Give it a try....

have you thought about getting eyelashes put on at a salon/spa? its like 150$ and lasts 3-4 months if you are gentle, also you cant use waterproof mascara with them....

When I buy a new mascara I usually wipe the applicator into a papertowl before I apply. Yeah, its a waste, but if the mascara clumps I'm not going to use it and it will end up in the trash anyways.
Also, have you tried using a fan brush to apply? You just wipe a big glob of mascara onto a papertowl then lightly brush the fan tool over the glob and then coat your lashes.
Out of all the brands I've tried I still have to go with Avon. They sell a definition one that works well for making the lashes appear thicker. I'll have to find you a link later.

is that hypoallergenic and safe though? i don't know if i like the idea of something stuck to my eyelids for that long.

i don't use waterproof mascara anyway. it's too harsh on my lashes.

i might try this. does it take like 3 hours to put them on though? seems time consuming.

i have really sensitive eyes and they never bothered me. but depending on where you go they could use different lashes or adhesive. i had them done in ohio at a luxor spa so if there is one your area i would go with that if you want to get them done. if not definitely call around and ask for specifics :-)

I've heard of old-school "cake" mascara where you apply it with a brush, not a wand, and sometimes put powder on top of the mascara- it produces thickening and less clumping because of the method of application.

A makeup artist might be able to explain it better.

Good luck, on the plus side, you have large pretty eyes...A plus.

I would recommend getting a lash conditioner/grower like Jan Marini Age Intervention Eyelash. It actually DOES work.

MAC zoom lash. Make sure you are curling your lashes first (I curl mine in 3 spots- right next to the lash line then twice moving out a little bit) then wipe the wand off completely with a paper towel. Then put in masara, twirl to put some up and apply! I don't have particularly wonderful natural eyelashes either, but this works for me!

I was going to suggest the same thing. Even if you just put them on the outer eye they look awesome.

I was wondering about this one...I am so tempted! The mascara-to-buy list keeps getting longer.

Castor oil on your lashes helps condition them and encourage growth.

Also, try using individual eyelashes instead of the strips.

Have you tried a lash tint? It won't make your lashes tons thicker but it will make them darker and it won't clump

I suggest the castor oil too! It really does work. I dunno, but maybe you should lay off on all the heavy mascaras out there (false lashes too) until your real lashes get back in a healthy state.

I forgot to mention this- AVON sells a tube mascara called Super Full- it has a rubber applicator with nubs instead of a wand with bristles. Best non-clumpy application ever.

This whole thread made me want to learn the art of cake mascara though.

I'm not a dancer (yet!), but from my modeling experience, I've found that more expensive mascaras have a thicker consistency than cheaper ones. This means that the expensive one does what you want it to from the start but also for a VERY short time due to how quickly they thicken with minimal air exposure. So, I personally go for mascaras that have the thinnest consistency and apply multiple coats until it's as thick as I'd like. (Rimmel, as someone else mentioned is good, as are several other brands that cost $4 and under.)
A makeup artist/ Playboy model I know told me how to get mascaras to work the best as well. Many times, it's in the application. Since more of the mascara ends up on the tip of the brush, point the tip and sort of paint this on the very outer lashes only, scraping off the rest of the tip sludge on the edge of the bottle. This brings out the corners and shape of the eyes. Then, apply with a vertical motion once and a diagonal motion toward the outside of the eye afterwards until you get what you want. (By changing the direction of how you're putting it on, you can remove clumps. Just go straight, diagonal, straight, diagonal, etc.)
It's worked for me, and I've gotten compliments on my eye makeup from photogs when I've had to do my own makeup, even though my lashes have the exact same probs as yours.
    Hope this helps!

    update:

i just bought and tried rimmel's "glameyes" as suggested.

i give it an 8 out of 10. it's actually better than some of the higher end brands i've tried.

my complaints: no burgundy or red-toned brown shades available. this is a HUGE plus for me with mascara because that color makes my eyes pop -awesome-. not to mention the supr black shades don't look right against my skin tone if i'm doing lighter eye make-up or a toned down look. it works great for dark/dramatic looks, but that's it.
my only other complaints are that it dries hard/brittle and that it doesn't do much for "lengthening" like it says.

however, since my lashes are already somewhat long, i'm not too concerned about that. it DOES give me more volume without clumping than most mascaras i've tried. i'd say for the price it's a very good buy. i'm not putting it on the "holy grail" list just yet though. maybe if they soften up the formula and add some shades.

i'm also going to try the individual lashes soon -and- i'm making a list from this thread of other mascaras to try when this one runs out or i get sick of it.

QUESTION about the individual lashes (because i'm fake-lash-handicapped). do i apply them and THEN put on my mascara or do i put my mascara on first? also, can i curl my lashes after or should i do it before?
