My #1 All Time Favorite Food Ever has always been TURNIP GREENS. I fucking love turnip greens. When I was a very small child I would cry and beg for turnip greens almost every night. I like collards and mustard greens too, but turnip greens are my favorite. With cider vinegar...

And hot-water cornbread. Take self-rising cornmeal, mix in boiling water until it's a thick mush, and cover it with a towel. Let it sit until it cools to room temperature, then make patties and deep-fry them until golden and crispy. This is definitely not something you want to have every day, but my mom always made it for my birthday.

Of course you can't go wrong with mac and cheese. The real thing, not that shit from a box. Bonus points if it has little broccoli florets in it and a crust of partially burnt cheese on top.

I could go on and on and on... I was raised on soul food and it'll always be my love!

^^^ I think I want to make a cookbook. But put a new spin on soulfood. Something with whole foods that's good for people with food allergies and stuff. Stuff I can eat! Non dairy OPTIONS. Vegan OPTIONS. -- but not the typical "healthy" cookbook. OPTIONS is the key word. Plus I'd include another aspect so you can eat what you want and lose weight if that's your goal. Something so people can eat their comfort foods - but it'd still be healthy and they don't have to think they're on a "diet." And the food wouldn't taste like their on a diet either. I want it to be accessible to everyone if that makes sense.

    So I'm investigating!

^^^ Like, heLLO! Everyday I'm talking "gluten/dairy free" lol

The dairy will be a the most challenging thing to tackle. That's why i"ll offer options with dairy. I'll have to experiment a LOT with that. A lot of people can do goat dairy (if dairy is a must) but goat also has a distinct flavor soooooo, we'll see. Maybe I'll do cow, goat, or dairy-free as options.

Mac and cheese, number 1! It just tastes soooo good.

This one might confuse some of you but haggis, neeps and tatties. Its a Scottish recipe and its sooo yummy. Perfectly comforting food on cold winter nights.

    Gypsy Bread and Rags

Mix up eggs, milk, butter and cinnamon, dip bread in it and fry it.
Any left over mixture you fry also and that becomes your `rags`

what about veggie casseroles and other kinda "blah-ish" dishes and making them a little more soulful... kind of like what they do in Black lifestyle magazines.... i don't have any allergies, but it'd make for a bigger market- the more of us living healthier the better Kudos 2 Ahmeerah

Blackeye peas with fatback (I have a recipe to make vegan fatback out of tofu and it is SPOT-ON). Banana pudding - real and cooked, not with that nasty Jello shit. Garlic mashed potatoes with the skins left in. Biscuits and gravy with a slab of country ham (turkey ham for me). Saucy beef ribs. Slow-roasted brisket from an underground BBQ smoker. Mustard slaw. Red velvet cake with cream-cheese frosting. Cornbread from a cast-iron skillet. Popcorn shrimp and hushpuppies with cocktail sauce. Fried green tomatoes. Fried dill pickles with horseradish sauce. Beer can chicken.

Dammit, now I gotta go home.

Don't know if this helps with your adaptations, but I make a mean vegan cheese sauce out of nutritional yeast, plain soymilk, and a tablespoon of mustard. It makes a deliciously cheesy au gratin that you can make mac and cheese with or pour over veggies before you bake them. I usually put some shredded real cheese on top just because I like the layer of baked cheese on it, but the sauce by itself is excellent too.

How could I forget my favorite breakfast?

Fried Green Tomatoes and a side of my great uncle Henry's rice pudding!

Rice pudding is not the actual pudding dessert. It's a sausage made with rice, crushed red pepper, a variety of meats and all that good stuff. It's the best shit I've ever had in my entire life. He very rarely makes it now since he's so old but sweet Jesus! My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

I would be all over that. My childhood food was about as white, northern and Post-WW2 as you can get (casserole with potato chips on top, shake & bake, meatloaf)-I would love the kind of stuff I only had at friend's houses. But healthy.
