    Default my uterus (post-abortion q)

ok.....so I got a surgical abortion on Tuesday. It really, REALLY hurt. Local anesthesia my fucken ass.

Now, my ute has been feeling really sore and swollen the past few days. My lower stomach is sticking out a little more than usual. Is this normal? Or is something wrong here? I figured it should be ok, because the whole ordeal was super painful and I have an extremely high pain tolerance. I have been taking Advils, which help a little with the pain. But it still hurts a little.

Also, for those of you who have had surgical abortions, how long did it take for your bloat to go away? I heard 1 week. With this pregnancy I didn't gain any weight, because it was literally impossible to keep food down with the nausea. The thought of food was enough to make me puke. All I ate for almost a month was broth-based soup once or twice a day. However, I got super extremely bloated in the stomach anyways.

Also, when can I expect my hormones to go back to normal? I had an abortion before, but it was a medical one so this time around I have a new set of q's.

    Anybody ? thanks

You just had an abortion in November or December right?
That wasn't that long ago...so maybe having a second abortion so close to the first one has fucked with your body to much and that's why it was so painful this time? Like maybe your body hadn't fully recovered yet? I'm not sure how long these things take to completly get over.

Yes I had one in Nov of last year. That one was different though...I was almost 5 weeks at that point (when they did the ultrasound they didn't even detect a fetus), and that was a medical one with that RU-489 pill. So I'm guessing its different this time....I was 8 weeks this time around and it was surgical.

Damimit Brendita that sucks I went to this center in NJ. All bleeding has already stopped for me, it only lasted 2 days. I don't want to dwell on this abortion like I did the last one, where I was depressed for months.

I just want to kick its ass and move on with my life. I'm not letting this get me down this time. I refuse. This time, I was 100% sure I DID NOT want the child, unlike the last time. I don't feel as hormonal already (although I am still), I feel like I have a new lease on life.

Brendita is right. It can take months for things to get back to normal.

My first abortion was medical and I was 8 weeks along. My second abortion was 3 years later and I was 5 weeks along. That was a surgical abortion and I was knocked out during it. They kept you awake? Hmmm, I've only had one surgical abortion so that's the only experience that I have to offer, I don't know how other places do it. I had some inner thigh pain and bruising immediately afterward but I think they were just too rough putting me on the traveling bed to wheel me into recovery. I woke up in the recovery room wrapped in a blanket and sitting on a pad. The bleeding lasted 2 weeks for me, I had mild cramping the first 2 days but thats about it. I think they may have been too rough during the extraction with you and perhaps the pudge is your uterus being swollen?

Keep in mind everyones body reacts differently.
It could be that yours just took it rougher than normal, not necesarily that the docs were too rough (although that's a possibility as well).

Keep an eye out for a fever.

I had a miscarriage and had to have the dnc surgery afterwards,( i dunno if that is similar) but it took literally almost 6 months for my body to adjust back to normal. Be patient, you have been through alot and it will definately take time to heal. Even if you were 100 percent sure about it and confident it was the right choice, your emotions are tricky and you could very well be a wreck about it again, don't beat yourself up and just accept your feelings. I hope you feel better soon

I felt less hormonal in a week or two. I was very crampy and bleedy for a while after that, but not sore. Maybe it's from being awake and being stressed and clenchy? I can't believe they didn't put you under. I would mention the soreness and pain when you go back for your checkup! I agree with Sirona-if you get feverish, call the doc ASAP.

And this is why Palin shouldn't be vice president. Imagine getting banned from SW for talking about an "illegal abortion." Sheesh!

No this was in 1991 and yes it was legal. I was told that in order to have anesthesia I had to be admitted into the hospital..this was done in a clinic affiliated with Graduate hospital in Philly. My body did not react well.

thank you guys for your responses

Nope they gave me ABSOLUTELY NO anesthesia. I was totally awake not even sedated, I even drove home from the clinic thats how awake I was (even though I had a friend with me). They said they were going to numb my uterus, but obviously they didn't because it seriously was the worst pain I have EVER endured.

I really wish I had taken advice that was given to me and gone under general, but I just couldn't take the feeling of being pregnant anymore (extremely depressed, nauseous and raging mad all the time). I just needed to get it out of my body, so I went to the very first clinic available to take me that day. I just didn't want to waste any more time feeling so horrible.

I stopped bleeding on Wednesday, but today I bled a bit as well. Ughhh I just want this whole ordeal to be done with. I hate not being in control of myself

I had pains that were incredibly bad afterward. So bad I went to the hospital. Mine was also painful, they sedated me with valium which is NOT a pain killer but I felt everything too. I'm sorry hon.

Yeah the pain was unimaginable. I about broke the nurses hand(she held my hand during it). It felt like all my internal organs were being sucked out.I also started shaking uncontrollably afterwards...they put me in the Dr's office on the couch and my bf just held me and rocked me as my body shook like crazy. I stopped just in time...if I hadnt they were going to put me in the hospital(and my parents would have been notified which would have been worse then anything)

I walked out to the car holding onto my bf,and got about 10 feet before I puked on the sidewalk.(thankfully it was not a great neighborhood in Philly so nobody even looked twice at that!)

I was in bed doubled over for days...told my mother it was period cramps(I always got them really bad so it was a plausible explanation)

Just goes to show that abortions are a serious procedure. Regardless of ones stance on abortion, I've known a lot of girls that were oblivious to this until later in life (eg after they've gotten an abortion and had a bad experience or known someone else who has).

Seriously though, I had some medically-necessary surgery done by a plastic surgeon earlier this year. And even though the plastic surgeon could have done the procedure in his office for a cheaper price, the insurance company refused to pay for surgery unless it is in a hospital (at a higher cost) because of the potential complications. And I don't think my surgery was nearly as invasive as an abortion.

Anyway, glad that you recovered successfully.

These days I like to count my money. I like to wash it delicately and iron it. Sometimes I dry it with some bounty to make it all nice and cuddly. I love my money... did I say that out loud?

I had a surgical (vacuum) abortion at a planned parenthood in NY 4 years ago.

I was NOT put under. If you are having the vacuum type, it is such a simple procedure with local that there is NO reason to take the risk of general anesthesia for it. General anesthesia is something that shouldn't just be given with any procedure!! I feel very strongly about that! If you are with an experienced doctor, a suction abortion is not anywhere close to a procedure that would warrant general anesthesia!

I was wearing a pad and bleeding for about four days. I had stomach cramps and general pain in the abdominal area for almost two weeks. They gave me pain meds, but only one week's worth. The pain had subsided enough that I didn't feel I needed them before I even ran out. They also gave me antibiotics to ward off infection.

I was bloated too for the first week and a half or so.

It took a full two weeks to really feel better. Prob about a month before I was 100% comfortable with my body again.

    I wish you well!!

Youre right completely, I've never heard of general anesthesia for an abortion.... I think people are probably confusing that with twilight sleep or IV sedation which knocks you out...General anesthesia is completely different but its common to mistake any kind of sedation that puts you completely out for general anesthesia.

^^^ exactly! People are so flippant about anesthesia today and no one realizes that it's a risk that should only be put in place when absolutely necessary.

And it's NOT necessary when it comes to a procedure as physically simple to preform such as an abortion.

I had the sort where they put an IV in my arm and then I didn't remember anything after that. Is that just IV sedation? I think with something that involves your innards, some sort of sedation is necessary. It maybe simple, but it's pretty invasive.

^agreed. It is surgically simple I guess, but it's not emotionally simple. SOME sort of sedation should be required, because so many people who have gotten abortions with out sedation have PTSD and regret it. Whether it's oral like vicodin, or nitrous oxide, or versed or fentanyl intravenously...there needs to be some kind of sedation. Especially because if you move during the procedure the doctor could puncture your uterus and you could bleed to death.

I got completely knocked out and I don't regret it one bit. I would rather run the risks of GA than be conscious for it. I reacted fine to the GA, I fell asleep on the table and woke up in the recovery room feeling drugged up and fine. There was a CRNA and an anesthesiologist and I had no ill effects from it.
"Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. Even the terrible mistakes that I made and would have unmade if I could. The pains that have burned me and scarred my soul, it was worth it, for having been allowed to walk where I've walked, which was to hell on earth, heaven on earth, back again, into, under, far in between, through it, in it, and above."

I think sedation is fine. I just looked and I had forgotten to add into my first post that I was sedated. I got too worked up about people saying that you should go under general anesthesia. And someone saying it should be illegal not to go under during an abortion.

I agree that an abortion is NOT an emotionally simple procedure, which is why in my second post I specifically said "a procedure as PHYSICALLY simple to preform..."

I had nightmares about it for a very long time and was very emotionally disturbed. But physically it was exactly what I was told to expect from my doctor.

Yes it was very traumatizing. The whole ordeal seemed simple enough, from when he prepped me to the end of the procedure took under 5 minutes easily. But that was THE WORST pain of my life, and I have a very high pain tolerance. I'd rate that pain above when I first woke up from my boob job and also above my kidney stone I had when I was younger. I think I did confuse IV sedation with general anesthesia, either way they both knock you out and you don't remember it.

I just wanted to get it out of my body THAT DAY and went with the first available clinic. I even drove out of state, because PA has this law that you cannot have an abortion until you listen to this "Counseling session" (a damn recording) and you have to wait 24 hours to make sure you've thought it through.

The bleeding was totally gone for a few days, and now its back. UGH. I just wish I could put in a damn tampon and work. My ute feels like its about to fall out. Feels like I have to piss and shit at the same time really bad (sorry TMI) but its just my damn ute being all bloated. IT HURTS. Last night I could barely move and was crying in pain. Today is much better.
I have been handling the emotional part well, I am not upset like last time. I just am grateful, I feel like I've been given a second chance at life (I know it sounds corny, but thats how I feel)
