Default Difference between being liking food and gluttony?

Just thought I'd ask this question. My mom bought me a brownie tray as a thank-you gift to me. (She had minor surgery about a week ago and I stayed with her 24/7 to help her out). Well, I love brownies to death...lol. I had 6 of them yesterday total, and 2 within four hours. Call me greedy if you want, but I CANNOT resist brownies cause they're my fave.

Well, my mom said that I was giving into gluttony...I just like to eat. I thought it meant the same thing. I admit, I do eat alot of junk food and I'm very thankful to have a good metabolism which allows me to eat almost anything that I want and not gain alot of weight...but gluttony??? I mean, its not like I worship food or anything...I just like food and I'll eat as much as I want.

So whats the difference between just liking food alot and gluttony???

Gluttony is a religious way of saying you like food a lot!

Well, here's what Wikipedia has to say about gluttony:

"Gluttony is the over-indulgence and over-consumption of food, drink, or intoxicants to the point of waste. In some Christian denominations, it is considered one of the seven deadly sins—a misplaced desire of food or its withholding from the needy."

As long as you're not hogging all the brownies while other people go without, or doing something like eating 3 bites of a brownie and throwing the rest away, then grabbing another, then that's not gluttony.

I presume that since she brought YOU the brownie tray, you're the one who's going to eat them all, whether it takes you one day, a week or a month. So gluttony doesn't apply to you, regardless of the rate at which the brownies are consumed.

Personally, I think your mom needs to check herself. She's getting a little too involved in how you use the gift she freely gave. If it bugs her that much, next time she should just give you a fruit tray or a soap basket.

I don't think it's gluttony if you're not obese or have a disorder. I appreciate good food too.

6 brownies isn't so bad, you're no glutton.

I think you've reached the point of gluttony when it goes beyond enjoyment of the flavor and into sheer enjoyment of consumption for its own sake. Enjoying your food is relishing the flavor, texture, etc.; gluttony is cramming it in just to eat it.

I don't say this to be mean, but as a lifter, I could have eaten all of the brownies in one setting, and to my disappointment, I wouldn't gain a pound (my situation is different because I'm always trying to gain weight; muscle weight, anyway).

The point is, what matters is what's going on with your bodyfat. If you're gaining bodyfat that you don't need or isn't healthy then yeah, you are eating too much or too much junk. But if you can keep things under control while indulging yourself once in a while, then go for it.

All of this said, I think your mom has good intentions. Heart disease is the leading cause of death in the US, even among women. This "being fat is just who I am" crap is bs. It isn't PC to say that, but it's the truth.

Although now that I think about it, you should have countered with you Mom, stating something like, "I wouldn't have eaten them if they weren't there. Thanks, Mom."

If you're not gaining any weight be eating them, your body obviously needed the calories. So if you're getting those calories from brownies or 10 bowls of oatmeal, it's the same thing. This method might be a little less healthy (i.e. less fiber, more sugar) but you needed the food nonetheless.

Gluttony only is so when you didn't need the food. You needed the food. Dancers need a lot of food, we burn off a LOT. I could go through 2000-3000 cals a day when I was doing 13-hour shifts and LOSE weight. All metabolisms are different.

I thrive on Glutty some people think having a bag of candy in under 30mins is over doing it, or maybe to them a sheet of brownies every other day is unthinkible. I tell you I go thur boxes of cerel, bags of chip ahoys, and pans of lasagna like as if I was the Trixe Bunny, Cookie Monster, and Garfiel all in 1.

It's really to the extreme with me to where my g/fs knew the way to my heart was to learn to bake or to enjoy pigging out with me, so you bet I got eggos, cinnabons, pancakes, browines, home made rum cakes..ect..ect on the regular...and most of them gained weight they ofcourse blamed on me since I'm the 1 with the sky high appetide that's always eating all the good stuff right infront of them encouraging them to live alittle teasing them with thier favorite treats.

Anyhow it's not my fault thier metabolisms were never nearly used to burning as much or as fast as mine does. Infact I dare say that mine is soo high if I skip a meal I'll probably get dissy and faint on top of becoming hungery and cranky. Believe it or not it actaully takes more calories to mantain my 120 lbs then most becuz I'm soo active and high engery.

I also have very high sexaul needs...ect..ect and I consider many things others consider wants my needs becuz I'm used to spoiling myself . It's just how I'm wired and I'm just not happy if I can't allow myself to endulge. Many consider my life gullious, but to me it's just how I preffer to live.

Why see the glass as 1/2 empty when you can afford to have a refill or the whole bottle if you so choice. What is enough for you should not be based on how little others can be happy with. I'm not saying push yr limits in need of having more then what fullfills yr desires, but if it takes more for you to get your buzz by all means quit snipping and open up a tab.

PS Obessity like in those pictures maynot be a result of gtullony, but rather serious problems with thier digestive systems many of which can be tied to lack of enzymes, excerise, as well as inproper and abusive diets that go beyound eating a few too many brownies.
