Default My New Upstairs Neighbor Sucks...

Seriously. It's been so quiet here for the past two months (well, not when the old neighbors moved out...) and then this guy (or girl?) shows up.

OMG!!! Could we possibly walk any heavier?!?! It's like he's up there stomping around in seven inch heels or something!!!

Ugh! I don't want to deal with him, though, so Imma let the apartment people handle it. I have no desire to meet whoever this person is, but I'm also not paying for rent at this way-more-expensive-than-any-other-in-the-area apartment to have him give me a headache every freaking day because he walks like Big Foot!

Did I mention he woke me up before my alarm went off the other morning?

Maybe he's really, really fat? That totally sucks.

I dunno...I haven't seen him at all (which is odd for this apartment). I'm half expecting him to fall through my ceiling, though, and then (red faced, of course) introduce himself.

We tried. Third floor was all full when we leased.

Even the ferrets started looking up at the ceiling a few minutes ago. That's when you know it's pretty bad!

Poke the ceiling with a broom a few times like the old lady in movies.

I was just also looking at an expensive apartment--trying to upgrade a bit. The place was beautiful, but the manager was honest with me about an upstairs neighbor with heavy feet...for that reason (her honesty) I shall check in with her again if she has something else open. The previous neighbors actually moved out because of it. I think you're well within your rights to ask for another place at your same price--I'm sorry you're going through it. There is nothing more angering than feeling like you're not being respected, though maybe they just have big feet. Sure doesn't make it easier for you, though. I hope they are not playing loud music on top of everything else.

Back in the late 90's I moved into this awesome apartment. I was thrilled with it then 2 or 3 months later a chic moved in who was so loud. It was miserable. I tried to let her know it was a problem with a note , then knocking on her door to talk and nothing changed. Spoke to management and they couldnt do much either. Sad to say when my lease was up I just moved. It sucked too because other than her noise it was my all time favorite apartment.

I learned from that to get top floor apartments and hotels. It can be a pain when bringing in groceries or moving in and out but on a day to day basis it si much better.

When I was a kid, my parents drilled into my head that I should not make ANY noise while walking in the apartment because "there were people downstairs". I always walked without a sound, even now around my own house. It's become a habit.

I just dealt with this, it sucks. I left a very nice note on their door asking them to be quiet. I told them that the walls and ceiling are paper thin and that I can hear *everything*, so could they please try to keep the noise to a minimum? I also gave them my phone # so they could call me if I was ever loud and bothering them. It has been peace and quiet ever since, and I didn't even have to meet them.

That's what I'm thinking I'll start out with. It's STILL going on, but it's starting to get a little less frequent (I guess because it's getting later). I'm just trying to decide if he's going to wake me up in the morning (again).

I swear it's like he's going all ninja up there or something. Like he's bouncing off the walls!

No loud music! Everyone else in the complex is totally quiet, too. The only noise is the people who drive trucks or motorcycles and the occasional person setting their car alarm off by accident. Well, and this guy.

Hopefully I'll be able to get him to simmer down a bit. Maybe I could just flash him in exchange for some peace and quiet?

This situation sucks. I actually did become the old lady who hit the ceiling with a broom!
My ex and I used to call the people who lived in the apartment above us "the elephants."
The "elephants consisted of two heavyset adults...and a toddler. Yeah, lotsa fun.
We had no idea what they'd be doing up there, they'd walk and walk and walk, and we'd be like, "where are they walking to?? It's not even that big an apartment!"

I never needed my alarm clock when I lived there. I feel for you and hope he stops being a ninja soon.

My upstairs neighbors are pretty obnoxious too. They tend to be loud when walking around and seem to have a penchant for rearranging furniture or something at 4 in the morning when I'm trying to go to sleep.

Actually, they're stomping around up there as I write this.

One trip I took the people in the room above us I SWEAR spent hours every day moving all the furniture from one side of the room to the other....then moving it back.Or at least thats what it sounded like! They also had kids who raced around the hotel room 100,000 times a day. I wanted to KILL them.

We also got woken up by SCREAMS of "Moooooooooommmm...can we go to BURGER KING for BREAKFAST pleeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaseeeee" EVERY morning at about 8am,then screaming in the pool all day. These were some of the loudest people EVER.

We tried being nice and explaining that we work until 4am so could they keep it down please?Nope. They looked at us like we were smoking crack and kept on a-stomping and screaming. So we banged on the ceiling every morning when we got home and sang "I want to Fingerbang-bang you into my life" from South Park at 4am!!

this makes me nervous. I'm an insomiac ballet dancer with a puppy, living on the top floor.

I REAALY hope no one thinks of me this way! I try to be considerate with music levels and such, and i dont think i walk heavy, but its hard to say with shitty apartment construction.

How recently did they move in? Perhaps they are still busy getting settled in? Sorry to hear you have to deal with sudden noise!

I was in this situation a few years ago except i was the one who had just moved in downstairs & the upstairs guy was soooo loud after about a week of just dealing with it i actually went upstairs and very nicely asked him to keep it down, he apologized & said he didn't realize (which i think was bs, how do you not know that you're being loud) it was better for a couple days but it didn't last long, needless to say now i know why the person before me moved out.

Try having this pervert 60 something middle eastern man, gawking at you all the friggin time
He drives this beat up, 1970's orange bungie, looking straight jefferey damerish, and he's always staring at me. It's so uncanny. I have to basically sneak out my apt when I want to go jogging, sometimes. It's gotten to the point where I will be finishing up my run, and if he sees me, he wil WAIT and farf around in his car until I pass, just to stare.

I need some mace, cause if that perv eva, EVA, tries anything,
they'll be retrieving his wrinkled nuts from his neck.

uuggghhh!!! i'm so glad not to live in an apartment any longer, and i feel for you guys. i lived above a "gentleman" who must have lived off hot dogs. the smell traveled up into my flat at least 4 nights a week. he also chain smoked inside and enjoyed talk radio at full volume. each time i attempted to talk about this with him, he used the opportunity to hit on me. i've never been so happy to move

My first apartment in Spain was on the second floor of a three floor building. It was alright as apartments go except (you guessed it) for the upstairs neighbor. Apparently the woman had a fetish for 6 inch heels and ultra tight skirts. If you gonna have one that is not bad as they go. However she would walk really fast around the apartment on the hardwood floors. Clickety, clickety, clickety. Seriously sounded like she was training racing lobsters or something.

Um...I think it's been about 3 weeks since they moved in, and I saw them (a couple I'm guessing) today and no...he's not fat. He does walk kind of weird, though, so maybe that has something to do with it.

It's quiet today, though. So far...

I will NEVER be under someone else again. people are sooo inconsiderate. I had a lady I used to live under that did some therapy and had her clients scream and hit pillows. ( I think that's a great idea- just not when I sleep during the day) Plus she had hardwood floors and would drag out her desk chair right above my bedroom.
Wax earplugs (mack pillowsoft) and a fan for background noise are ok. But not for that much noise.
Also I walk on my toes in the apt. Heel hitting the ground makes the noise. And shoes -forget it.
    Kids running around suck too.
