ASX200 opened down 7%, but recovered heaps and then finished down 4%. Apparently not the end of the world over here, and there was no big news during the day either. Interesting.

    Excuse me !

That dumb bitch is the Speaker of the House. ( Take it personally Nancy, the truth hurts. ) That means SHE controls when a bill comes to the floor.
Lawmaking 101 says you do NOT call for a vote on an important piece of legislation unless and until you have the votes. It also says that if you NEED your opposing party to give you the margin to pass a bill; you talk nice to and about them. Pelosi didn't even have the votes in her own party. Half of her Committee chairpeople voted Nay.

Lastly, Bush's policies did not cause the current problem. He and the Republicans caused a few other problems but NOT this one. Last time I checked Frank; Waters; Clay; Meeks; Dodd and Schumer were all DEMOCRATS. Franklin Raines and Jim Johnson are DEMOCRATS. Paulson is a DEMOCRAT !

I think that all this "it's all Pelosi's is bunch of crap. Had she said nice things or said nothing the R's that didn't hold up there end of the deal would have still voted "no" it gave them a convient excuse but just that an excuse.

In the end I am glad the thing didn't pass because I don't really think it would have worked, just kicked the can down the road and a few weeks or months we would be right back here again.

As far as this "credit crisis" and no one is lending nonsense. Hardly a day goes by that I don't get E-mails from from my CC companies offering me "balance" transfers" or other CC companies offering me new "pre-approved" CC , 10-15 grand, also getting actual "balance transfer checks" in the mail.

Just yesterday I got some balance transfer checks for my Discover card, up to 13 grand at 0% for 12 months. Also an E-mail from B of A offering me 12 grand worth of balance transfers at 1.9% for 12 months and another E-mail from some company offereing me a "new" M/C "pre-appproved" offering me a 15 grand credit line.

All I had to do was apply online.

So in one day I was offered over 40 grand in credit at very low rates.

    I hardly make 40 grand a year.

It's looking more and more that she and the Dems WANTED the bail-out to fail.

As for the credit offers you received; who bears the prime responsibility if you take them up on their "generous" offers ? Isn't it YOU ?

    you were offered 'balance transfers'.

the real measure of credit you were offered is what purchases and cash advance APRs look like-- i bet they aren't any 1.9%.

Apparently, it's not the end of the world in America either.

In fact, the 'tin foil hat' crowd is speculating that this 'crisis' has been manufactured / overblown way beyond the reality of the situation ... with extremely convenient timing in regard to the upcoming presidential election.

Yes it would be my responsibility, my point was that I was offered the credit.

As I said one was 13 K at 0% for 12 months the other was 12K at 1.9% for 12 months. Yes they were just "balance transfers" but if I took them up on there offers, provided I had that much CC debt to begin with the original CC's would then be 0 balance and I could run them up again, so they were/are new loans in every sense of the word.

This could very much be a "manufactured crisis" but maybe not for political reason but by the big shots on wall street that wanted to free themselves of this bad debt they took on and thought that at this point right before an election would be a good time to get everything they wanted all they had to do is scare the american people enough. It almost worked

We HAVE seen this movie before ya know!!

War in Iraq: do it now or you will die

Patriot act: do it or you won;t know you are going to die

GWB 2004: vote for Kerry and you will all die.

^^^ well, the Senate has now passed a bailout bill of their own ... which includes the same $700 billion in bailout money, but also includes some differences from the bill the house voted down (such as tax breaks ... that aren't funded by new sources of revenue or spending cuts). The house will most likely discuss and vote on the Senate's bailout bill today. In order to become law the house must pass the Senate's bailout bill without ANY changes (since the Senate has now left town such that no 'reconciliation' of differences is possible).

I think Nancy Pelosi is historically ignorant; averse to facts and knows nothing about how wealth is created so she fits my definition of "dumb". The object was SUPPOSED to be passage of a bail-out bill and she couldn't even try to get her Committee Chairmen on board. Or the Black and Latino Caucuses. She can't even COUNT !
She looks pretty "dumb" to me.

She threw away the nice conciliatory bi-partisan speech her staff wrote for her and gave a mean spirited, petty, highly partisan and totally inaccurate speech just before the vote. That was certainly a "bitchy" thing to do imho.

Afaic, the shoe fits. Let her wear it.
