Default As long as we're pointing fingers

Melonie and I have posted at length how the sub-prime mortgage mess was the root cause of the current financial "log-jam"; "crisis" and that it was the Dems who were the prime architects.

I blame Bush and the Republicans for years of reckless spending; record deficits and inadequate regulation of Wall Steet but....

Let's not forget who else is responsible. The American people. That's right. We have met the enemy and he is US. We are the ones who signed up for sub-prime mortgages. We are the ones who wanted cheap money from the Fed. We are the ones carrying record household debt and who don't save our money. Why ? Because we want it all NOW ! We want government to do everything except cut our meat but we don't want the taxes to pay for it.

We are the ones who vote bums like Chris Dodd; Barney Frank; Maxine Waters; Charlie Rangel; Bush ; Gramm; Helms; HASTERT ; De LAY etc. etc. etc. into office. We are the ones who didn't want to listen to Perot ; or Ron Paul or J.C. Watts or Chris Shays. We are the ones who voted out fiscally responsible politicians and replaced them with "Good Time Charlies" who promised us the world and told us someone else would pay for it.

^^^ and unfortunately, in many districts, the percentage of registered voters for whom 'someone else DOES pay for it' ... i.e. those earning less than $32k per year who receive social welfare benefits but pay no income taxes, uber-rich beneficiaries of gov't bailouts and tax shelters, civil servants and gov't contractors who directly benefit from higher gov't spending etc. ... now comprise 51%+ of the district's electorate !!!

Welcome to the 'New Roman Empire' ... or at least the bread and circus !!!

More crime for "Hot Pursuit" and "Cops" and the evening news to report. Our very own Colosseum of the air waves.

I actually agree with you, Stoner. However, the late Hunter S. Thompson stated this eloquently and succinctly over 5 years ago, long before you became defensive regarding your political leanings...

So what took place during this past election?

I believe the Republicans have seen what they've believed all along, which is that this democracy stuff is bull, and that people don't want to be burdened by political affairs. That people would rather just be taken care of. The oligarchy doesn't need an educated public. And maybe the nation does prefer tyranny. I think that's what worries me. It goes back to Fourth Amendment issues. How much do you value your freedom? Would you trade your freedom for some illusion of security? Freedom is something that dies unless it's used.

Considering the fact that DeLay tried to "buy" perpetual Republican political dominance with outrageous pork-barrel earmarks and more than a little gerrymandering; there's a lot to it.

Btw, I am NOT the least defensive about MY politics and philosophy. Had Bush been a REAL Conservative we would NOT be in the current mess we are in.

^^^ but if GWB had been a REAL conservative he wouldn't have been re-elected in 2004 ! The one thing that carried the 2004 election was GWB 'bribing' senior citizens to vote for him by promising to institute a new social welfare program i.e. prescription drug coverage being added to Medicare.
