Default Where Is The LEADERSHIP ?

Whether or not there ought to be a $700 billion dollar bail-out, yesterday's House vote clearly demonstrated that Bush is the lamest of lame ducks.

Item- He couldn't persuade 4 Republicans from TEXAS to vote Yes.

Item- He has reportedly told confidantes that "No one listens to me anymore".

Item- His affect and body language clearly show that he knows he is irrelevant and even toxic to his fellow Republicans.

Item- North Korea has revived its nuclear program. Iran has not slowed down or stopped their program and now Hugo Chavez wants nukes for Venezuela. Would any of this be happening if Reagan were President ? Or even George H.W. Bush ?
Just as our allies lost respect for Carter and our enemies were emboldened; so it is with Bush. He is a " failed President" and everyone knows it.

Item- McCain could not deliver Arizona's 4 Republicans.

Item- Gingrich worked behind the scenes to defeat the bail-out and then jumped onboard at the last minute.

Item- Obama did NOT make a single call to a single member of the Black Caucus or Illinois delegation to push for passage.

Item- Boehner could only deliver less than half of the House Republicans.

Item- 12 Democrats from Barney Frank's Financial Services Committe voted No.
    Where was Barney ?

Item- The current housing mess is concentrated in California; Florida and the current credit crunch and Wall Street mess will affect New York, New Jersey and Connecticutt the most. They will lose the most financial services jobs and tax revenues. Where was Henry Waxman ? Where was Charlie Rangel ?

Item- Pelosi was a total failure UNLESS she wanted the bail-out to go down so she could blame the Republicans. Worst case scenario is that she drafts a pork laden bill to get unanimous Democrat support which the Republicans will oppose and then block in the Senate = The Republicans will get blamed.

Item- The Dems have done everything they could to blame the Republicans when it was THEY who blocked reform of Fannie & Freddie.

Everybody connected to this bail-out except for Bush and Paulson have spoken out of both sides of their mouth. At least the House Republicans have come up with an alternative. Where is the Democrat alternative ? Where is Obama ? Where
is Harry Reid ? Where the hell are Schumer and Dodd ? Where are Lautenberg and Menendez ?

It's starting to look as thought the Dems WANT an economic crisis so they can solve it with MORE GOVERNMENT.

the 'tin foil hat' crowd agrees with you ... and also adds that a 'manufactured' economic crisis occurring within weeks of the upcoming presidential election plays to Obama's 'strong suit' while relegating McCain's strengths with foreign policy / defense etc. to the back pages.

Let me get this straight, the 'tin foil hat' crowd thinks that Bernanke, Paulson and Bush are conspiring to get Obama elected????

Not exactly. The 'tin foil hat' crowd doesn't think that Bush has any objective other than improving his 'presidential legacy' at this point ... and pretty much thinks that Bernanke is in way over his head. But Paulsen is a different story - Democrat - former head of Goldman Sachs. The 'tin foil hat' crowd would tell you that he and his Wall Street cronies stand to earn billions from this bailout package regardless of whether their company survives. And most of the 'powerful' Democratic politicans see this bailout as a chance to endear themselves to both the very rich and the very poor.

The larger point was about the possibility of this crisis being 'manufactured'. In other words, we were warned two weeks ago that if the bailout package wasn't passed immediately that financial armageddon was imminent. Here we are two weeks later, with no actual bailout having been passed, and the world economy is still functioning. Banks haven't locked their doors. The stock markets haven't 'crashed' (i.e. 20% ish declines a la 1929). Martial law hasn't been declared. Of course, if this theory has any truth, we could still be in for a whopper of an 'October Surprise' !

I get what your saying, but take into consideration the guy can't take a walk around the white house, without it being criticized by half the nation. Look at fucking Nancy Pelosi? He's probably ready to be done, I know I would. I'm not even sure he cares who wins anymore...

Can you imagine how people would react if he took a step at Iran or Venezuela? People would go nuts. Oddly these are the same people who will cry that he should have done something, once they realize Iran and Israel can destroy each other, and that Venezuela can lob nukes at us.

People are to harsh on the man, when the times are shitty, a President can only do so much.

Failed presidents are never a happy sight and obviously the country suffers as a result.

I don't think we're being too hard on Bush. In some ways I think he's worse than
Hoover. Hoover didn't get us into any wars. Hoover didn't engage in reckless spending. Hoover didn't gauge his appointees solely on loyalty.

After Hoover left office; historians started to mellow on him as the years passed and his ratings went up a little bit. The careless and uninformed among them even started saying that : "the Depression was not his fault." Well ,as his record is looked at properly and the impact of his tax increases are appreciated; along with his failure to take control of The Fed. when it failed to step in and prevent massive bank failures; Hoover's ratings have gone back where they belong. To the bottom of the barrel.

I thnk the same thing will happen with Bush. His apologists will try to point to areas of vindication but on balance; I think he's been one of our Ten Worst Presidents. Maybe even one of our Five Worst.

No, the tin-foil hat crowd is anybody who disagrees with her uber-conservative position.Oddly enough, though I don't have time to go find it, I remember Mel saying that if a dem were elected she was hoping that the economy would go to hell to get a conservative in the office.Slo yeah, basically wishing ill-will on america so she can get her way.....tin-foil hat crowd, no; just people who can think, instead of people who have their head stuck up their ass.

It wasn't a"hope". It was virtually guaranteed that President Obama and a Democrat Congress would result in ruinous tax increases and at least two hundred billion in new spending. That was then. Now Obama is going to be very limited in new spending but he WILL raise taxes on the "rich" NOT to dramaticaly increase revenues ( returning to Clinton's tax rates for the top 5% would yield less thjan $80 billion a year in increased revenue ASSUMING at least modest economic growth) but to promote "fairness". The resulting economic downturn will give us a Republican Congress in 2010 and thus divided government which is historically best for fiscal prudence.

A new ABC News/Washington Post poll finds a record 70% of Americans disapprove of President Bush's job performance and a career-low 26% approve.

Bad news for Sen. John McCain: 53% think he would lead the country in the same direction as Bush.

But what's crazy is that some of those people are still voting for McCain. Cognitive Dissonance much?
