There has been a yucky smell wafting from my bathroom sink for the past month. What the heck is it and what can be done? I tried drain cleaner, but it didn't seem to work (it's not clogged, by the way).

If you think school is hard, try being stupid.

Most likely its sewer gas. Is there a trap on the drain?

try having the stopper on your sink to the point where its almost closed, but liquid can still slowly get down and dump a whole thing of bleach in your sink and let it drain down. bleach does wonders for everything.
Did you try pouring bleach down your drain? Thats what I would do... it should kill bacteria/fungus if somethings growing down there
Did you try baking soda?
I had that same problem with my sink and I poured some ammonia down the drain. Harsh, but it destroyed the smell.
I thought the drain cleaner would be harsh enough to kill the smell... but it wasn't. Bleach wouldn't hurt the pipes, would it?

You might need to turn off the water, let it drain, open it up and clean it out. But, preferable get a man to do it. After I had my pipes cleaned it smelled sooo bad for a day. It went away after that.

I was previously a renovations contractor so I dealt with this a lot. Drain pipes build up a layer of gunk that starts to smell at some point. Using bleach or ammonia will work for a little bit but the smell will ultimately come back. If you want to be rid of it you'll need to take the p-trap apart and either replace the parts or clean it out real good. I had to do this to my house in the bathrooms and kitchen from the previous owners never maintaining it. I took them apart, soaked them in a bucket of bleach and used a bottle brush to clean out the inside of it. It's nasty work but it resolves the issue.
