Default Make your own hair extensions?

I'm planning on making some clip-in hair extensions for myself, Does anyone have any suggestions, hints, or tips? I have shoulder length hair now, and I want it to be fairly long, is there anything I should know about blending it, placement of clips, ect? And once clip in extensions are in, how secure are they?

I just made my own clip ins a week ago and I'm really happy with them....
my hair was about shoulder length and now it's down to my ass! hehe..

You should use human hair, not synthetic...also go for the small sized clips..
When buying hair..choose two colors that are similair to your own color and then mix them...buy thread that is made for extensions and sew togehter tightly....

I only have two rows of clips but you can have more if you want too..however the more rows you have..the harder it is for you to place them so that the clips aren't visible....try to place them as low on your scalp as possible and spray/tease where the clips are supposed to go...
don't sleep with the extensions in...

    Good luck!

Normally they should be REALLY SECURE. I've got three or four different types of clips, and they all stay in perfectly well on their own.

As far as blending... if you're going from shoulder length hair to fairly long... you'll want to have a somewhat layered look with the extensions... or it's REALLY obvious that it isn't real. with like. the two solid thick layers... ya know?

Anyway. When I still had enough hair to do normal looking extensions... [XD] I normally did extensions that hit about mid back... With natural hair that was all less than 2 inches too long. [my hair was ratty and slept on there... but you get the idea... the extensions will pretty much keep all the hair underneath pinned down so that it isn't like. poking out from between the layers you add.]

Also. Biggest point was already made. But I like to reiterate for emphasis... HUMAN HAIR NOT SYNTHETIC.
Synthetic tangles easily, you can't style/dye it, and it doesn't last long at all.
Most clip ins made with real human hair should last you a few years if you take care of them. XD

Sad Re: Make your own hair extensions?

ooo I'm so excited! I want to go get them for tonight, but there is no way I can finish making them before work tonight. lol, I'm so impatient! Thank you for the tips, I'm really hoping I can make this work! Does the hair you buy go wavy on it's own? My hair is curly, so I'm hoping I won't have funny layers falling out

sorry about the "sexy" pic, it was for my hubby, lol

Step by step instructions with pictures. Enjoy! You have to scroll through the directions in a little box under the picture, I couldn't find them at first but they are there. It's a very simple procedure.

If you have time check out the rest of the site my favorite place to learn about DIY hair stuff. Great resource.

No... but if I'm wearing mine wavy or straight... I normally only have to touch up the style once a week/once every other week max.

ooooh baby I am the queen of hair extensions in my circle of friends. lol. Making them yourself is SO much cheaper than getting them installed and you can find the same quality of hair online that they use in a salon as well.

Brunettes can get really good human hair, but if you're platinum like me it's much more difficult. I've found that synthetic matches my super blonde color better than any human hair I bought and tried. I do have to replace it more often, but the upside is that it looks super shiny and photographs beautifully. It also holds it's style after you wash it: if it comes straight, you don't have to straighten it and if it comes curly or wavy, ditto. Saves a lot of time.

If you need any links to good sites to buy from feel free to PM me, I've tried just about everything online! lol

Hmm. I clicked on the link and you haveto go through a couple pages.

Here you go, try this instead:

    http://www.doctoredlocks.com/store/d...tions/diy.html

Scroll to the thumbnail that shows some clips on the left and same wavy blond hair on the right. That's specifically the tutorial I'm recommending.

When you roll your mouse over the enlarge pic it gives you the written instructions!

My hair is way too poofy and thick for clip ins I want some. I tried to make my own once by doubling up two rows, didn't work. I'm going to try the Ken Paves Hair Do thingy.

Are all wefts really thin? Is there a brand with thicker wefts?

Don't spend all that money on Ken Paves. Seriously.

    http://store.goldenmartbeautysupply.com/wigs.html

It says wigs, but click on the falls and 3/4 wigs and half wigs.

They have styles in human hair and synthetic hair.

I recommend using the combs in the top and cutting the comb out at the back and putting some wig clips in so the comb doesn't pull your hair out.

For $30-$40, you can have the same thing Ken Paves charges $129.99 for.

I got hooked on these things when I used to go to clubs because I hate smoke smell in my hair, and my hair always crinkles up in the crown area even if I flat iron and hair spray it.

I was wondering if I could perm and colour the hair to make it match mine better? Or would that completely destroy the hair? hmmmm I want something that will match mine, I don't want it to look fake, but I don't want to destroy my own hair at the same time... Any suggestions for curly red hair?
