    Default Could this be permanent?

So this morning I was in a huge rush for work, and as I was straightening my bangs really fast I hit my forehead with my Chi, (which of course was on the highest heat setting.) It hurt but I didn't really think anything of it and ran to work.... But now I just realized the scar is almost 2 inches wide, a darker color and its kind of rised? What do I do to get rid of this? I dont want a burn mark smack dab in the middle of my forehead!!!!!! I put cortizone cream on it for now, but do any of you guys know what I should put on this?

    Ouch!

I think that whether burn scars are permanent or not depends on your skin. I can look at my skin funny and have a permanent scar, and know people who have burned the holy hell out of themselves and had it fade to nothing.

I'm not sure cortizone is the best thing, but I would definitely pick up some aloe vera gel. I've never found anything better for healing burns, as old school as that sounds. If you can get a fresh aloe plant it's even better, but the bottled gel is also great in a pinch.

I've had that happen to me a few times on my neck from my straightener, but it's all good now. No scars or marks or anything! It'll fade!

If it heals and theres still a scar, use Mederma. It's OTC now and is specifically made to fade scars.

Mederma is just sunscreen. Whatever you do- do not go tanning or even use a self-tanner on that area! I have many small scratches, etc... that were turned into permanent brown scars just by using self-tanner.

Be careful with neosporin- I can use it anywhere on my body.. But if I put it on my face I get a bunch of little bumps. Gross...

You don't want to go with the mederma untill it's healed. Even if the scab is covering it there is burned, raw skin underneath. You don't want to put anything but an anti-infective on that. Use the neosporin until then. As for bumps, well, they are a hell of a lot better than a permanent scar.

As for how severe it is... In my experience the worst 2 burns I've had sunk in, instead of puffing up. One was on my forehead the other the underside of my elbow. The arm scarred a little (was red and discolored, but no texture changes), but it dissapeared after about 5 years. The forehead scar stuck around for a year or so, but was a snap to cover with makeup.

It sounds like it's just a bad first degree burn, in which case you shouldn't scar.
Just keep it out of the sun, neosporin, and no picking!

You know what kicks ass in all directions for burns? Honey! (They recommend medi-honey as some honey *can* contain botulisms. But meh, I've never bothered with it. So, up to you?)

But yeah it is AWESOME!! Honey has anti-inflammatory and anti-bacterial properties. It just takes all the heat and the red right out of it. And if it was say of a cigarette burn type quality, it stops it going all crusty and scarring (burns can't be dry but they can't be wet!) - not to mention it just heals really quickly too!

It's like drizzling on a little blessed relief

The only drawback is that... well it's honey. So don't forget it's there.

    And here is an article...

honey is good fo your skin in general! too bad the bees are disappearing..

i would say try tea tree oil for your burn, it's especially recommended for that. antiseptic, healing, pain relief...good luck w/e u try, i hate burns!!

i cant believe a girl sat on a flatiron, so horrible.

How is your scar doing? I scar very easily, and still have a mark from when I burned myself on my thingh from a few months ago.

Sadly I did the same thing to my boob lol. Awkward. It took a while but if you keep using A and D ointment it goes away completely. A & D at home and lotion at work and don't pick at it!!

LOL what? It's not sunscreen... Mederma is made from an onion extract of some sort.

OMFG... I recommend you use neosporin and mederma. Alternate between the two maybe one at night, one during the day. The vitamin a&d ointment is another good idea. That should help.
