This is going to be really long, so I'll break it up into a few posts.

I'm a very experienced adult model, and I'll tell you now you continue learning on every shoot, so this is by no means an exhaustive guide.

First - What you should do before a shoot?

1 month before the shoot -

    - Eat healthy, exercise, drink 2 litres of water, and get 8-10 hrs sleep. You need to look your best.

A week before the shoot -

    - Find out particulars, such as time, location, style, required items for the shoot and if there will be a make-up artist. If you need to book accomodation/travel do so now, don't wait. If a make-up artist isn't supplied, book one now. Unless you are a professional make-up artist don't assume you can do it on your own, photographic make-up and hair is like no other form of make-up.

    - Find a chaperone. DON'T EVER GO ON A PHOTOSHOOT WITH A STRANGER ALONE! Some very professional photographers don't allow a chaperone at the shoot but are happy to allow you to bring a friend to the location for the first few minutes, stay for make-up, leave during the shoot, and return to collect you. If they don't even allow that, DON'T DO THE SHOOT.

    - Start shopping for requested items.

    - Keep all expense receipts (travel, clothes, make-up, accomodation) in an envelope. You can claim these on tax.

3 to 4 days before the shoot -

    - Wax all "down below" areas. Shaving isn't good enough here as a shave job will always have stubble or show up.

    - Stop drinking alcohol, eating excessive sugar or salt, and smoking. These will all show up in your photos.

    - Avoid the sun and solariums. 'Sunburn' might not be your colour.

    - Cease using or testing any new cosmetic products. Stick only with what you know as you don't want any bad skin reactions.

    - Have a firm idea of your shoot expections, themes, styles and shoot comfort levels. These should be communicated to your photographer. You don't want to turn up to your nude shoot, believing it's "artistic" to be told "stick this where the sun don't shine". All boudaries should be firmly established well before the shoot.

    - Also establish with the photographer what your compensation will be. I've seen it happen to many times to models who grow complacent, expect payment, and put time and money into preparation to find out when they turn up that it's "TFP with an amateur", all because they didn't ask beforehand.

    - You should also meet with your photographer on neutral grounds and check some references.

    - Double check time and location.

    1 day before the shoot

    - Exfoliate and shave all non-waxed areas in the shower in the morning.

    - Shape your eyebrows or have them shaped professionally (NOT WAXED!! You don't want a wax rash on your face).

    - Get a full manicure and pedicure. I know for my first few shoots I thought "oh, no one will notice", they do, and it looks really ugly in images.

    - Get a spray tan now if you are getting one. Make sure you leave it on for a full 12 hours and definetly have 2 showers in between now and the shoot. One to wash of the bronzing solution, and a second to wash off any solution trapped in your pores. You don't want to get any on your clothes or on the location. Don't get it any sooner or it may go patchy before the shoot. Also, if it looks to dark, don't worry, I can assure it will look better in the shoot.

    - Cut all tags off your clothes. TAGS ARE THE DEVIL.

    - Double check you know how to get the location, as well as all your bookings. Write them down.

    - Pack all of your items NOW. You don't want to have a mad rush.

On the day of the shoot -

    - Have a good breakfast.

    - Get there in plenty of time.

    - Relax and have fun!

A note on the tan -

If on the day of the shoot you have a few blotches, use a good body foundation SPARINGLY on the areas. I use Sally Hansen Spray on Legs or Dior Show spray foundation. You only need to patch small areas.

Don't spray a large area, and certainly don't spray any areas prone to looking large (such as thighs, bum), as body foundation contains illuminiser, which on foundation makes things look bigger.

In small amounts = covers patches

    Large amounts = accentuates fat

    Modelling Categories

Fashion - basically what it implies, it involves clothing for the purpose of advertising.

Glamour - Bikini or lingerie, aimed at a make audience with no nudity.

Implied topless - Topless shot displaying nothing, hands or some other prop cover the nipples.

Implied nude - Full nude shot in which hands or a prop cover nipples and crotch.

Artistic Nude - Tasteful nude, generally not terribly explicit.

"Shy" or erotic nude - Full nude, no explicit (crotch) shots. Only topless.

Explicit Nude - Displays full crotch, can involve "lip" spreads, but no penetration.

Black nude, penetrative nude, R nude - Involves penetration of some sort.

    What to take -

Normal clothes (singlet tops, little skirts, shorts, dresses, cocktail/clubbing dresses).

Shoes (the higher the heel the better, your dance shoes are often perfect in an adult shoot. Nothing that wraps around the ankle, or has to many straps, as this shortens the leg and makes it chunky. Take many colours. Also take boots)

Lingerie and bikinis (a wide range of colours and styles. Take knickers, bras, corsets, cinch corsets, stockings, garters etc). Matching or at least complimentary styles are best.

Accessories (jewellery, belts, scarves, ribbons). Hats are silly as you can't see your face.

Make sure everything is clean and in good repair well before the shoot.

    What to take the shoot

-All of your clothes and accessories.

    - Your full make-up kit, even if a stylist is going to be there.

    - A cell phone, if it goes wrong, you need to call out.

    - Your ID, social secuirty and health care cards.

    - Cash/cards.

    - Breath mints/spray

    - Deodorant, it's never acceptable to mark a garment with sweat.

    - A small flesh coloured g-string that matches your skin.

    - Hair styling items.

    - Baby wipes, cotton tips, make-up remover and tissues.

    - Vaseline (I'm serious, it can be used to keep lipstick off teeth and give them a whiter appearance).

    - A water bottle (professional lighting is very hot and dehydrating).

    - Something to eat. Not all photographers cater.

    - Scissors (amazingly useful).

Sounds like a long list, but they're all necessary.

PM me if you want to know more.

Also, I can help more specifically if you tell me style (fashion, nude etc) and anything the photographers may have said. Is it for portfolio or magazine?

From your avi and the few pics I've seen of you...I have a totally sexy hot idea.

Be a gothic ballerina marionette puppet girl.

    Does that make sense?

Tons of black and silver and pink.... have ribbons suspended from planks of wood in an X shape you can stay-tacky adhesive to the ceiling put around your wrists/elbows/ankles/knees or something... and be posed all dance style or something.

It's all complicated and shit but I have this mental image in my head and it's fucking sexy as hell.

    lol

Here's an album http://flickr.com/photos/thesleeples...7594181622236/ . I googled for gothic ballerina/gothic marionette to get these results.

Usually a first portfolio shoot isn't "themed". The whole aim of the basic portfolio is to show off your look across a range of styles and to show what you are currently capable of achieving in an image.

Themed shots are usually only taken when you already have a solid portfolio and are looking to expand, or when you already know exactly what area of modelling you wish to work in (like I only do non-penetrative nudes, so I have themed adult shots because my portfolio has room for them.)

Don't put too many shots in your actual physical portfolio. A good portfolio has between 10-20 images, but if you only have a few good images USE ONLY THESE! I can't count how many times I've seen a new girl have only 4 great images out of a set and decide to fill in numbers with only ok shots. They'd have been better off only having the 4 great images so prospective clients can think only of you as a great model. REMEMBER NO ONE FORGETS A LESS THAN PERFECT IMAGE, so use only the absolute best, and if you get work of your great images than you can add the new work to the portfolio.

Usually however a new model should try and have a few styles in her portfolio, because while she may think she is a scene/fashion/glamour/whatever model, her look may actually be the Kate Moss of another genre, so until you actually get a feel for where CLIENTS think you fit in in modelling, keep the portfolio wide and basic, as opposed to something specific (my adult modelling) and themed (adult beach, adult cute, etc etc).

The themes I suggest my models (I refer girls on to photographers and magazines in S.E QLD) stick to for the first shoot is pretty basic -

A casual look - Not scruffy however, something cute, fashionable (not high fashion), and fun. A very "toothpaste" commercial look. The aim of this image is to show it off to commercial clients and acting agents.

A headshot - THE MOST IMPORTANT THING! You need a good headshot. Usually this is a very old hollywood image, mainly black and white or sepia (though some girls hav e colour), and the aim of this is to show off the beauty of your face to all clients.

A High Fashion look (if you're above 175cm, otherwise no point)- What you'd expect to see in Vogue or on a catwalk. Often very edgy and fashionable. The 'unattainable" look.

A commercial bikini shot - THIS IS NOT AN ADULT SHOT! It is a commercial bikini/swimwear shot with a "fun" feel to it, and it is used to show off your body to clients. All clients need at a minimum a headshot and a full body swimwear shot.

A glamour shot (if you ever want to do glamour) - This is a risque, bikini or lingerie shot aimed at showing potential adult clients your sexy side. It usually doesn't involve nudity, just a very "Sports Illustrated" or Victoria's Secret look.

All of these themes are then adapted to a models personality, so a "scene girl" does scene casual, scene high fashion, scene swimwear (which can be done for anyone out there laughing! I've set up many goth/scene beach shoots) and all the other themes in a "scene" style, same as how a "sexy" or 'all-american girl" would do those same basic styles to suit their personality.

I wasn't expecting her to pick my idea, just sharing what I thought would be a hot idea.

If your doing anything nude or partially clothed it's best not to wear a bra or any tight clothing ehrn going to the shoot to avoid lines. I usually wear absoultely no underwear with baggy jeans and a tank top. My skins really sensitive and marks easily.
