Default How long would a seamstress need?

    I'm in a wedding in mid-November.

My dress already needs to be taken in considerably (I'm a size 6 wiast up, and a size 10 waist down lol). The dress shop I bought it from said they needed 2 months notice...which is insane to me, so I was just going to go to a local seamstress.

But I'm currently in the process of loosing weight and doing well, averaging 2 pounds loss a week.

I don't want to have the dress taken in, and then try it on the day of and have it too big.

So for most seamstresses, how much advance time do they need?

Anyone know any good/quick seamstresses in the Philly area?

I do renaissance clothing, and I can make an entire gown in about 6-8 hours- so alterations, even difficult ones, would take no more than a couple hours at most. They probably want the time for scheduling. A local taylor's shop would probably charge you much less and only need a week or two, and might accomodate any special needs, like a final fitting a couple days before.

That's how those stupid shops are fuck that. I was just in a wedding we ordered and payed for our clothes in NOVEMBER of 05 and they didn't arrive until June of 06!! What the fuck? The wedding was in July we were all freaking out!

I think those places wait and get a big chunk of orders together and then order, and do the same with the seamstresses....

Luckily my dress fit perfectly (thank God!) or I would hav had to pay about 100 bucks to have them fix it

It would probably be best to meet with your seamstress sooner rather than later - just so they can look at you and your dress. Who knows?? It might be really simple and they'll say "No worries. We'll pencil you in for X. Talk to you then."

Or there might be some serious work involved! (I haven't seen your dress, I wouldn't have a clue - but it's always possible?) They may want to get started at a specific time accordingly.

But fuck, everyone knows 2 months can make a hell of a difference! It could easily be falling off in 2 months! For the amount of money you'll be paying... Personally I'd be looking for somewhere that would make sure everything was still great, like a week beforehand. (But I would need that. Just to know (and not worry) that if *something* happened in the meantime - it would all be ok.)
