Before the last presidential election, a Saudi prince and leader in OPEC, publically promised to lower gas prices before the election with the STATED and SPECIFIC purpose of aiding Bush in the election. I am not making this up or skewing it based upon my personal politics. This is what the man said.

I am so glad someone brought this up. This is one of my biggest pet peeves. I can't wait to hear what you ladies think about the price of gas as it relates to the upcoming election.
I've been paying less than $3 a gallon for E85 for months now. Of course, I did pay $250 for the conversion kit. It took me 5 minutes to install, there is really nothing to it. If you can jump start your own car, you have the skills to install an E85 converter.
Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

Same sign, nine hours later. And I filled up at $3.049 the other day. Sigh.
And I wish I lived in Oklahoma City.

How's your MPG doing on that stuff? I've heard its not as good as regular gasoline although some cars still get about 90% of their gasoline efficiency.
Problem is in a lot of places there are very few if any stations selling E85 (only about 1500 in the entire country), so its not practical for many to convert yet. The nearest pump from here is about 40 miles.

Holy crap OKC... I'll just gas there on my way through this weekend... o.O o.O o.O

Cheapest here is still $3.05/gallon.

Damn, hit 3.27 today.
I filled up Monday at 3.39. I'm pissed.
I wish. I live in miami so I dont see gas prices going below 3 dollars anytime soon... right now it's at around 3.48

Over here in SoCal is $3.35 lowest.
Grrr.
"Strippers are like pet tigers. They are nice to look at but they are not for everyone."
3.55 here in Tampa
I have to assume you live in Georgia...it's always cheap there...

It's $7 a gallon here... and my flatmate when filling up said, "OH, so cheap! Not like Switzerland."

That's from 2004 when Bush was running for prez.
The lowest I've seen is 3.18 but when I get mad about gas prices I think about Europe and am thankful that gas here is still much much cheaper.
Plus when you think about the fact that is has to be drilled shipped, refined and shipped again it's actually pretty cheap. What's the price of a gallon of milk or those 20oz bottles of water??

To me, this says that the people who sell you gas are willing to take a short term financial loss to keep the Republicans in power, because long-term it is more profitable.
Also, if they admitted to it before the last election, they are probably doing it again for this election. I really DO NOT THINK IT IS A COINCIDENCE that gas prices are dropping before the election.

You know, I didn't intend this as a political thread, but since you've turned it into one, and since I was around in 2004, and don't remember any significant dropoff before the election, lets find out if I wasn't imagining things.

From the time of your article was posted until election day, gas actually went up about 20 cents. So while I'm not doubting what this Saudi prince said, his promises apparently didn't pan out at the gas pump.

Doc, I just noticed that I started a thread parallel to one you started a couple of days ago. Doh! Sorry about that. That's what I get for skimming.
I like to have fun with the young folks that work for me talking about gasoline at $0.30 a gallon back in 1970 with occasional "price wars" driving the price down close to $0.20. They give me this look of amazement. I'm not sure if that is "Oh, man, that is so cool" or "Boss, dude, you are REALLY old".

I must be getting old myself. I remember back in the old days (old for me being late 70's) when gas prices above a dollar were uncommon and the price signs at the local gas station weren't designed to have any numbers left of the decimal point. When gas hit $1.00, many of them had to improvise and attach an arm to hold a '1' sign onto the end.

LOL I remember that too!
If folks don't mind a bit more nostalgia, I remember 1969 when I was a senior in high school. The big Friday night thing was several of us to pitch in and put $2.00 worth of gas in the tank of whichever guy was dumb enough to volunteer his car, further pitch in a few bucks to buy a 12 pack illegally with fake ID and drive around half the night on that investment getting buzzed on two or three beers each and cheap gasoline. I've told this story many times ad naseum at family get togethers. My adult kids roll their eyes and pat me on the head ha![]()

Still over £1 for a Litre here in the UK. It IS dropping slowly though!
There's a station near me that has litre to gallon conversion charts stuck to the pumps. It only goes up to 79pence per litre!!! (so must have been produced when petrol was WAAAAY cheaper, and they never expected it to ever get to 79pence!
