Fantastic. Really get the point across.

thats so ghey. Seriously, it should be understood that its not even close to derogatory anymore, its just a saying that isnt going anywhere. Should women get offended everytime the word bitch comes out? I just feel people take things waaaaay to seriously, if everyone would just lighten up a bit there would be way less issues with all of that shit. Now let the flaming begin.
That was totally Gay!
So is this one!!

I'm sorry, I dont think it's a big deal....I've never had anybody tell me they were offended by it....
I think it's offensive. And my gay friends have told me their feelings get hurt when people say it.
I mean think about it. What do you mean when you say "That's so gay"? You mean, "That's stupid" or "That's weird". By replacing "weird" and "stupid" with gay, you're basically saying that "gay" means the same thing.
I know many people don't mean to be hurtful, but it's one of those subconscious implications that can hurt people.
My roomie has a tendency to say EVEYTHING is gay, i.e.e "Those pants are gay"
To which I always reply, "No, it's not gay. It does not like other clothing of the same gender"
^ I never said it was brilliant...I don't want to be mean when people say it, but I do want to make them think about what they're saying.
My grandmother doesn't mean any harm when she says "colored people" or "oritental", but it still isn't okay to say and it doesn't make it any less offensive.

^^ Oriental is offensive? I didn't think it was, I mean, we get refered to as Occidental and I've never been offended by it.

I've never actually called an Asian Oriental, but my cat and furniture. That does makes sense now.
It actually is offensive. For proof, I dare you to use it loudly in a gay bar or something and see how people react...
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
Not that my gay friends make up the general population of homosexuals, but they don't care. I am fairly gay myself and I also, do not care. People need to stop being overly sensitive about shit these days.

QFT.
I believe it is offensive to use the word "gay" in a derogatory sense. I hung out with the "gay mafia" of my high school and thus I have a whole lot of GLBT friends and a habit of getting after people for offhanded homophobic comments. Usually I just say "how can whatever be gay if it doesn't have whatever sexual organs?" or something along those lines, or I'll flat out ask a person to not use that term in a derogitory manner around me.

I believe it is nice to put it out there that some people are offended by it and I don't believe it's censoring anyone, I do think just making people conscious that people are offended.
QFT. Although not EVERYONE will find it offensive... However, considering the recent fight for gay rights, I think it's extra offensive. I'm bi and not offended by the phrase... but what it stands for is mean. I get letters and bumper stickers for prop 8 all of the time. It's a real fight right now. I think it's going to be one of those terms that your grandchildren are horrified that you ever used.
If you think school is hard, try being stupid.
If your tender feelings get hurt, then BURN, baby.
I don't get offended if someone says "That's so straight"![]()

^People already don't give a fuck about much these days. I HOPe we can continue to care about language, because it both shapes and is indicative of so much else in our culture.
If I hear it, I am not necessarily offended myself, but I'm embarrassed for the person who said it. I believe it connotes linguistic laziness and ignorance.
^^^^ well said Colette!

It does bother me, although I don't broadcast that because I do catch myself calling things retarded which I suppose is just as bad.
Mostly I agree with Colette. It's a level down from people that also sound lazy and ignorant because every other word is a bleep.
I'm more offended by people who say, "That's so retarded!" all of the time. I can't believe than anyone thinks that's an ok thing to say. It really tells me all I need to know about the person saying it.

I don't think it is A or B but some of both. We need to encourage people to both be thoughtful about what comes out of their mouths, and to be less sensitive about what enters their ears. It is impossible for all people to please all other people all of the time, but it is possible to work on improving the odds of more people getting along with others.
