    Default Amateur Night? O.o

I'm a complete n00b to this, but I am very interested in becoming a stripper. I just called one of the clubs in my area that I've heard good things about and they told me that they hire women through their Amateur Night, which serves as the audition. They said that if I get third through first place, I would be offered a job on the spot. Now, I've never been to an amateur night, and I am really interested in getting a job at this club from everything I've heard about it. Any tips on doing well on the amateur night? What are the "amateurs" usually like?

    Thanks in advance! ^_^

In my personal experience most of these contests were rigged. At one club I placed second (behind a now feature) but still didn't get hired (they didn't hire anyone that night). I didn't care because I got $100 for my efforts (and this was years ago on December 22). Another club you had to place first, second, or third, but this was rigged. One of the dancers got less applause than either a friend or me, but got hired (and she was obese and ugly to boot). While leaving another dancer (who I knew personally from school) told me the contests were rigged to favor the manager or housemoms friends. I've compared notes to other dancers I've worked with, and most of them have had bad experiences with amateur nights. Oh, and most of the "amateurs" are already working, and a few were actually features.

If you can, I'd check into a club where only an auditon is required.

    +1 to that.

Even if it is rigged, which they are most of the time, it doesn't mean they won't offer you a job any way.You just won't get any prize money. If it is not rigged the best thing is to have a bunch of your loud friends show up and cheer for you.

Yup ^ Bring frinds to cheer for you so that even if it's rigged you will look and sound popular with the crowd and seem like you will bring future $ into the club.

And sometimes even if you don't place they'll hire you anyway. That's what happened at one of the clubs I did amature night at... the contest was totally rigged but the manager asked if anyone wanted a job anyway... So even if you don't win you should ask for a job! You never know!

Does it cost money to get into the contest?

One club I auditioned at you had to turn in any tips you received. They claimed due to bribery. I disagree and think it was just another way to ripoff dancers.

They said that I can keep any tips I receive, and the only cost is the cover to get into the club.

So you have to pay cover to audtion? That doesn't sound right to me. Every club I ever did amateur night for gave me free admission. One club allowed me to bring in four people for free and gave us all a free non alcoholic drink.

Damn. I'm jealous. It sucks having to pay cover because at the moment, I don't even have that much extra money! T_T

Did either of you talk to the general manager or the person in charge of amateur night? I would question why you have to pay. I know one club was going to charge me a fee until I told the doorman I was in the contest. When I said that he let me in without paying. I'd never pay a cover for amateur because it's probably rigged and no guarantee you'll get hired.

The club I left, because I recently retired from dancing, only hired girls through the amature night. But it wasn't to be like a pain in the ass you know? They were very picky on the girls they hired and a lot of girls want to work there. I had fun doing it. Just keep smiling when you get up there and have fun!!! Don't even pay attention to what the other girls do because it might psych you out and you may get too nervous to remember to have fun. Good Luck!

There was a club here that did the same thing. The dj would make noises like pig snorts (if they deemed the contestant fat). They made other noises and comments too. I went with a friend to check out the club to dance but decided against it. If they are nasty to these girls, they must be awful to dancers working there.

OMG Thats terrible! And you guys I was wrong, I didn't have to pay cover to get in.

I don't really think the contest was rigged, it's just I only had ONE friend that could come with me and the girl that won brought seriously like 15 of hers. I rocked the house, all the guys I didn't even know were cheering for me. It was fun, and yeah I just asked for a job when I was done and she was like "Come back thursday and bring ID." They seem pretty willing to hire you as long as you do good.
