The problem isn't with Raila Odinga being a Muslim. It has to do with Obama advising such a Muslim while a member of the US Senate ( as is alleged ).

Raila is not a muslim so repeating this allegation will not it true.

You obviously have no idea what are talking about in regards to Raila Odinga or even Kenya for that matter. I happened to spend a lot of years in Kenya in my youth and know the politics and players very well. Raila was simply trying to hinge his wagon to Obama's popularity by claiming to be his cousin and although Obama's father was from the same tribe as Raila, they are not related.

Odinga rejected Kibaki's offer for talks on Tuesday, saying it was a public relations gimmick that would undermine attempts to end the fighting.

Obama was coordinating his efforts with the State Department, his advisers said. He discussed the situation with Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice on Jan 1. The following day Obama recorded a statement with Voice of America after a canvass kickoff in Davenport, Iowa.

On Jan. 3, the date of the Iowa caucuses, Obama spoke with Archbishop Desmond Tutu in Nairobi between satellite interviews with local Iowa stations. Tutu has been in Nairobi trying to secure an end to the violence.

Obama spoke Saturday with the U.S. ambassador to Kenya, Michael Ranneberger, while in a hold room after a rally in Nashua, N.H.

Obama last visited Kenya in 2006 and was met by large and adoring crowds throughout the visit.

Obama's father was an economist studying in Hawaii when he met Obama's mother, but he returned to his homeland when Obama was a toddler and was not around for his son's upbringing. He died in a car crash in 1982.
Odinga told the British Broadcasting Company Tuesday that Obama's late father is his maternal uncle, making them cousins. "(snip) from

(snip)"Raila Odinga, who is Obama's first cousin, has, in his own words, a "close personal friendship" with Obama. When Obama went to Kenya in August of 2006, he was hosted by Raila and spoke in praise of him at several rallies in Nairobi. Obama’s bias for his fellow Luo was so blatant that a Kenya government spokesman denounced Obama during his visit as Raila’s "stooge."

On the 27th, Raila Odinga, Obama’s cousin, lost the presidential election in Kenya. In true Marxist fashion, Odinga ordered his people to the streets to protest the outcome and the violence commenced.

Raila vowed to go ahead with a "million man" protest rally Thursday that many fear could worsen the wave of political and ethnic violence that humanitarian groups say has already killed 300 people and displaced 100,000.

Opposition leader Raila Odinga called the march to protest President Mwai Kibaki's re-election in the Dec. 27 vote, insisting the disputed poll was a sham.

According to witnesses, the mob was mostly Kalenjins, Luhyas and Luos, the followers of Raila Odinga. They overran Kikuyu guards in front of the church and then pulled out cans of gasoline. There were no police officers around, witnesses said, and no water to put the fire out. "(snip)

(snip)"Here is a summary on the agreement which was signed [by Raila Odinga]:

    * It pledges the support of Kenyan Moslems for Raila’s election. In return, as President of Kenya, Raila agrees to 14 actions, listed a) through n) on page two.

    * Within 6 months re-write the Constitution of Kenya to recognize Shariah as the only true law sanctioned by the Holy Quran for Muslim declared regions.

    * Within one year facilitate the establishment of a Shariah court in every Kenyan divisional headquarters. [Note: everywhere in Kenya, not just in "Muslim declared regions."]

    * Popularize Islam, the only true religion… by ordering every primary school in Kenya in the regions to conduct daily Madrassa classes.

    * Impose a total ban on open-air gospel crusades by worshippers of the cross…

    * Outlaw gospel programs… on KBC, the National Broadcaster.

    * Impose a total ban on the public consumption of alcoholic beverages…

    * Impose an immediate ban on women’s public dressing styles that are considered immoral and offensive to the Muslim faith…

Obama's involvement in Kenyan politics, whether tribal or religious, is bothersome.

Just asking...but wasn't his mother an American citizen?

...even if he was a muslim what does it have to do with anything? America has no state religion and we can worship which ever god we choose.
Point of order -- Muslims worship the same god as Jews and Christians; you seemed to imply. I thought educated people knew that.

Believe it or not, being a Muslim in America is not against the Law; it is nether unethical; further it is not an indictment that one supports Islamist terrorists - anymore than being a Right-Winger American Christian makes one seem like a jingoistic, war-mongering red-neck.

I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

She was at one point, but she also relinguished her citizenship to become Indonesian, and there are other weird circumstances.

Berg raises the legal point that, regardless of whether Obama was actually born in Hawaii or Kenya (or any other country for that matter), he 'lost' whatever Natural Born citizenship claim he may have had by the fact that he did not reside within the USA for more than 5 years as a child (i.e. his stepfather effectively renounced whatever US citizenship Barack may have had as a child and registered him as an Indonesian citizen in order to attend school in Indonesia). This being a matter of (Indonesian) record, it is then possible that, upon return to the USA later in life, Obama could have filed to regain US citizenship.
I'll bet this is due for a court interpretation, if the documentation in question holds up to scrutiny, and it will be scrutinized. Haven't seen anything on it in the regular news channels yet.

I believe the main this the above supports is that Obama prefers peace to violence and when he as an opening, he will help negotiations along. As distasteful as Kenyan politics is, with its Muslim leanings perhaps, it is THAT COUNTRY'S BUSINESS. Who is to say that these are the not most reasonable concessions they could work out. It is related to that country's culture, not ours. I think your argument, not only is weak, but it shows your own biases more than it shows objectivity.

It is not my religion, and to me Sharia law is very distasteful, but it is not my negotiations to judge. Since it is not my law, I can tolerate its existence. The true outcome is whether it leads the country toward peace and justice, at least as is honestly attempted by the negotiators.

I've been trying since I posted the above to edit two paragraphs; it always hangs on me. Why???

Then you won't be posting anything about human rights in other countries?

Not all countries can be democracies. I am not an evangelist for democracy, as I think a country has to be ready for its responsibilities. But I do think it is the best system yet devised, and the presidential form is better than the parlimentary form. And worse yet is authoritarianism shown by so many third-world countries. Of course often this is what makes them third world. But it is their world, not ours. If you don't like your neighbor's religion, is it your 'duty' to change it?

I am concerned about human rights, very much so. But that concern does not extend to interfering with the rights of a country to make its own cultural choices, independent of what the US would rather have it do. No, I don't like the Sharia law that accompanies Islam which I think is authoritarianism in the extreme. But I am not religious anyway, so it is not a choice I would welcome in my life.

This is another reason I prefer Obama to anything remotely Bush-like; he is not so ego-centric as to try to force other countries to become little USAs.

    For Crying Out LOUD !

Obama is NOT a Muslim. He NEVER attended a madrassah.

He was born in Hawaii. His birth certificate is prima facie evidence of where and when he was born. Anyone saying otherwise has the burden of producing EVIDENCE that he was born outside the U.S.

Let's assume Obama has friends in Kenyan politics. That's a bad thing; WHY ?
American politicians meddle in Israeli politics all the time.

Obama has NO CONTROL over what Farrakhan says. He has condemned Farrakhan. What more is he supposed to do ?

Obama has NOT taken campaign contributions from foreign interests; Muslim or otherwise. For one thing, he doesn't need them and if he had, McCain's surrogates would have gone nuts.

A lot of tripe about Obama originates with a guy named Andy Martin.( Profiled in today's N.Y. Times btw) who has a history of cooking up factually delinquent garbage about Democrats he does not like.

Were this actually the case, the Philadelphia lawsuit would have been almost immediately dismissed. Arguably, it is the responsibility of the US congress to verify the constitutional eligibility of a 'new' president. Of course, given the current makeup of the US congress, the degree of due diligence they will actually bring to bear is open to speculation.

The 'tin foil hat' crowd are of the opinion that this issue may provide grounds for yet another presidential 'selection' by the US Supreme Court !

There is a difference between making facially sufficient allegations to support a suit AND having sufficient evidence to actually win one. Obama's birth certificate puts the burden squarely on anyone claiming he is "foreign born" to PROVE IT !

Btw, this whole "Obama is not American enough" garbage is out of control. McCain has put on a nice little show of trying to restore civility, but it was HIS campaign that continued the kind of crap actually started by Hillary during the primaries. I'll never forget her cute response when asked if Obama was a Christian: "As far as I know."

The current makeup of the US congress apparently makes any degree of due diligence open to speculation for practically anything of importance.

there are far more 'tin foil hats' around than you might think ... of course you won't hear about most of them in US mainstream media !

    (snip)"Here are some of conclusions:

"The (Daily) KOS image security border pattern does not match any known specimen from any known year. It does not match the pre-2006 nor does it match the post-2006 certificate patterns. The placement of the text in all of the pre-2006 and post-2006 certificates are almost identical pixel location matches while the image?s text placement does not match any known specimen from any known year. The shape and kerning of the fonts used in the 2006 through 2008 certificates are identical while the shape and kerning of the fonts used in the image does not match any known specimen. The KOS image shows clear signs of tampering such as the mismatch in RGB and error levels, visible indications of the previous location of the erased security border, easily detectable patterns of repeating flaws around the new security border, EXIF data that says the image was last saved with Photoshop CS3 for Macintosh, and finally a technician from Hawaii who confirms it just looks wrong."

The evidence, he says, allows for two possible scenarios by which the document was fabricated:

"There are two obvious scenarios used to create the image that can be ascertained from evidence. Either a real COLB was scanned into Photoshop and digitally edited or a real COLB was first scanned to obtain the graphic layout then blanked by soaking the document in solvent to remove the toner. After rescanning the blank page to a separate image the graphics from the previously obtained scan could then be easily applied to the blank scan after some editing and rebuilding. It would also explain why date stamp bleeds through the paper and the various bits of toner located around the image as well as the remnants of the previous location of a security border."

The purported birth certificate was published by the Daily Kos on June 12 in response to unconfirmed reports that Obama was not in fact born in the United States (Canada and Kenya were suggested as the possible locations of his actual birth). Since he would in that case not be a natural born US citizen (his mother was not present in the US sufficiently long as an adult to pass American citizenship on to him automatically), he would not be eligible to be president.

After more than a month of controversy and demands that the Obama campaign produce a paper birth certificate for analysis, this damning new evidence raises the stakes for the democratic party and its front-runner.

Will Obama and his people continue to stonewall in the facing of the mounting evidence of forgery, and provide paper proof of an authentic, original birth certificate or even a genuine secondary Certificate of Live Birth? And will the mass media and mainstream pundits -- which so far have hesitated to touch the hot potato -- finally address the loaded issue of his possible unfitness to meet the basic Constitutional requirement for a President? Just because he says he has a close personal friendship with Odinga does not mean that he condones his policies. How would it look if he said that he disownes his own cousin? That would have people speculating his family values. I disagree with some of my family members actions and thoughts but it doesnt mean I'm just going to throw them under a bus to have other people approve of me.

^^^ if only that were the case ...

(snip)"Sen. Barack Obama designated a personal aide as his direct contact for the 2007 Kenyan presidential campaign of Raila Odinga, who later was appointed prime minister after his election loss was followed by widespread, deadly violence that destroyed or damaged 800 Christian churches, according to e-mails obtained by WND senior staff writer Jerry Corsi during a trip to Kenya."(snip)

mccain has paid third world foreign agents, including one of saddam hussein's guys, as his foreign policy advisors.

meanwhile, obama is already winning states like georgia. the 'october surprise' is that obama is legitimately getting out the vote and has already won in a completely fair landslide, hence the lies conflating voter registration fraud (which acorn itself reported to authorities, as their standard policy) with voter fraud (like the vote caging the repubs are so fond of...).

only about 40% of the population that is voting wants mccain in office. that's just not enough to win. that fact doesn't mean the democrats are somehow cheating or faking votes or wtfever because people prefer their guy this time round. bush really, really, really sucked, and mccain is just more of that. people don't want it, aside from the 25% who still like bush and the 15% who reflexively vote republican on everything.

we'll have a black president, he will have won fair and square and i am pretty sick of people lying and saying it must be a conspiracy of fraud, because omg who would vote for a 'colored fella' for president?! must be fucking fraud, right?

    fucking racism sickens me.

I could make up a bunch of even more scarey but preposterous concepts too. Since I know about conductivity and radiation, I would not use tin, but probably a magnetic alloy sheet electroplated on both sides with a heavy coat of silver.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.

no, not voting for obama is perfectly fine. many people will not. but those that won't vote for him are the ones screaming loudest that NOBODY ELSE COULD POSSIBLY DESIRE TO VOTE FOR HIM.

that's the problem. what you're saying is just a deflectionary straw-argument. polling and early voting surveys indicate that obama will win, and very likely with 300+ EVs. you can certainly not feel he'll win by a landslide, but it is unlikely that the election will be close. and again, the racism is in the myth that nobody could ever want to vote for obama, not (necessarily) for the decision to vote for mccain or a third party/write in candidate. although certainly some are voting 'nobama' out of racism, it isn't everyone who chooses a candidate other than obama.
