Default 'required to work' during religious holiday

so let's say you have a good work ethic in a club where most girls cant even come in half of the time. so you ask for a certain day off far in advance for religious observation. you work a 'schedule' (you pick the days, and this holiday isnt a scheduled day for you).

and poof! the higher up makes it a required night for everyone. you speak to a manager and explain the situation, but no assistance- the higher up made the rule.

you like this club. you get along with everyone. you do quite well. actually, it's the best club you've worked in so far. you come to the mandatory days when most girls dont.

you are afraid to speak to the higher up out of fear that you will be ridiculed for your beliefs and told to go fuck yourself.

what do you do? you dont want to get fired or quit.

has anyone ever dealt with this? if so please share. thanks!

I've dealt with it, but not at a club but a "regular" job. Where are you from? I called the labour board and followed their advice.

This is where the technicality of being an independent contractor should come into play. If someone isn't actually employed by the club, this seems like it should be illegal. Of course we all know clubs don't play by that book. Years ago I applied at a club where you HAD to work either Christmas Day or New Years Day, and had to work both eves. I didn't think this was right, and refused to work there at all. I absolute refused to work Christmas Day or Christmas Eve after a certain time (like around 6-7pm). I know one dancer fought this and called the person who gives business licenses in that county. I also know she called a labor lawyer. I forget if they helped her, blew her off, or gave her another person to contact.

I would speak to the higher ups. Stick up for what you believe in! Everyone at my club knows halloween is a religious holiday for me and that I won't be working- which is not considered normal for most. I've gotten a few raised eyebrows but no snide remarks.

kitty- your words were so comforting!

apparently the higher up is the problem- he is not being nice to my coworkers (one whom had a VERY legit reason to ask for the night off)
