Default Sex Slaves in the Suburbs on MSNBC right now

Its about underage girls being kidnapped and forced into sexual slavery by pimps. Here's a link to the story about it http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/27098993/ . I've been reading the various pimps threads in some of the forums and people have been trying to paint a different picture of pimps and the pimp game than i and some of the other people on here are familiar with. It talks about how internet sites like eros and craigslist have made it easy for the pimps to do this. They had one girl on there that looked to be like 5 or 6 months pregnant and was still being forced to sell sex. Its about to go off now but is coming back on at 1am Est 12 central.

Plenty of people have been arrested for these crimes but most of the time they aren't sentenced to jail for very long if at all, plus once one goes away another is there to take their place. It's kinda like drug dealers, one gets taken off the streets and another takes their place

I was pissed off when the cops wouldnt help that guy in Toledo ESPECIALLY once people had called and said he was being beat and called back 20 minutes later and there are no cops there. Its almost like the 911 operator didnt believe them since they had called all calm about the kidnapped girl then called again screaming. Its like she thought they were making it up to get them there. I was soooo mad watching that.

No one had been arrested for the first one... where the teen girl lured the other girl to the house... at least thats what the show said - the others people were arrested but in that one they said "the family wasnt being co-operative". Bullshit.

I was more talking about the crimes like these. Like they said on that show alot of the girls have been so brainwashed/beaten down into thinking they need the pimp that they won't help the people that are trying to help them put the criminals away.

Why are these girls so susceptible to this criminal influence?
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

That is a very big question, and one that has a definite element of accusation.

Why are these girls so susceptible? Hard to know without knowing the situation of all "these girls", whichever pimped girls you are talking about. Is the fetishisation of the female body tied with completely contradictory messages about sex dirtying/spoiling women something to do with it? Probably doesn't help. Do these girls generally come from backgrounds with no structure or emotional support, where they haven't learnt to be confident in themselves? Possibly. Is it linked to class/sociaeconomic status? Probably.

But it seems to me you just want to blame girls for "allowing" themselves to be pimped, rather than have an actual discussion.

    No.

It was an honest question. I don't know the answers. I just cannot put myself in their place in any circumstance (as an actor would, drawing from their past...), so haven't the foggiest idea why. But I do feel that there may be a set of reasons having to do with background, beyond the mere desire to be accepted.

OK, fair enough. I'm generally suspicious of questions like that is all. Sorry.

Really? I don't feel I'm in any position to analyse/judge these girls because I haven't watched the show and I'm sure it varies a lot. But across the board I think girls are still taught a distinct lack of ownership of their own body. There are extremely mixed messages from parents, peers and media - sex as power, sex as bad and dirty, feel good about yourself and be independent but don't be too confident or else you'll scare men and "getting" a man is still sold as the goal in a woman's life. This isn't a great structure for women to grow up in and feel confident in what they want or have the ability to express it. Especially as all teenagers are conflicted about sex and relationships anyway.

I would also imagine that most girls in this situation come from households without a lot of money, and without a lot of support. Children having to make their way in the world with little guidance are going to make mistakes, and people like this are just waiting for them.

That's my armchair psychology for the night anyway

Income plays a part in these situations alot of the time and a rough home life plays a part all the time. A girl can come from a well to do family but if she is experiencing all types of abuse and a lack of love in that family then its gonna affect her self esteem in a negative way. When she goes thru this most of her life the pain shows on her face and she will act out, whether it be trouble with the law, running away from home or something like that. Most women that fall in with pimps are runaways, the streets is a cold cold place and is even colder when you're out there all by yourself. After being in the streets by themselves for awhile a girl will fall for almost any line a man/woman she thinks can help her out will lay on her.

I think you're closer to it than I am. I only know of a few local cases, and only one slightly related case very close up.

Generally I'm under the impression that some girls ending up in the sex industry (not as slaves since this is involuntary) have some pretty deep-seated rebellion often at their parents, or just something that is in them from birth; not to say that this is the majority or even directly related to these slave cases.
