    Default Feeding my dog raw

Well I've put my Cash on a raw food diet and he's never been so happy over food. I feed a varitey of raw meaty bones daily as well as a side of either organ meat (not much liver) or eggs and the occasional whole fish.
The problem is, he's gotten the squirts. Does anyone know if this is normal and his body's way of adjusting, or is it something to worry about? Also his skin allergies don't seem to be getting any better.. If anything they're getting worse :S
I've read so much about the benefits of raw feeding and I don't want to put him back on the Hill's z/d. It's expensive and he doesn't enjoy it.

Give Cash some Plain yogart that will help the tummy(for a few days).I agree he is adjusting to new food.

Ditto on the yoghurt. If that doesn't work then starve him for 24 hours, then give him some really bland food.

How long's he been on it? Basically dogs tend to get diarrhoea on any new food, and 24 hours without food then cooked chicken rice will often fix it, but in your case I'd probably do the starving then back on raw.

It could be from the change of diet. Isn't there a risk of your dog getting worms from raw meat??

it is completely irresponsible to feed your animal raw meat unless you are butchering the animal yourself and giving it to your dog right away. meat you find at your butcher or grocery store have to been exposed to God knows what, and even though dogs have a shorter digestive tract they are still susceptible to toxoplasmosis, salmonellosis and e coli.

Raw will have some harmful bacteria no matter what. Stool should be healthy or else the diet is not healty. Period.

I meant to add (but SW has trouble with edited posts sometimes)

Not worth the risk, IMO. Think about what the best dog owners feed... They still feed dry kibble in working dog circles and the top show dogs.

However, the secret is in that they don't feed just any kibble found in a pet store. Many elect for a Fish Only kibble with NO GRAINS. Anytime Wheat, Rice or Gluten products are added to kibble, there is the risk of it containing Melamine. (ie, the menu foods recal)

Make sure the ingredients are all Human Grade. In Canada I look for this on the label : 'fit for human consumption by the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA).'

    Raw vs. Fresh:

FRESH VS. RAW INGREDIENTS? What’s the difference?

A: RAW means the ingredient has not been cooked before processing, but has been preserved by freezing and chemical preservatives.

FRESH means the meats are never frozen and contain no preservatives. Unlike most commercial pet foods, make sure your pet food is made with FRESH REGIONAL MEATS that are processed the same day that they are received, and this will also be a key factor in the superior palatability and feeding performance of your fresh pet food diet.

I feed my Harley Quinn some actually cooked chicken, no bones and it is only once in while and with a little bit of her puppy chow. Put some garlic powder on it because garlic is really good for dogs! Obviously don't over do it. I give my kity th eraw chicken, for some reason he won't eat it cooked anymore. Just give your dog sometime to adjust and find a few other things to give him with the meat, he is gunna need all his vitamins. ^_^

    google the B.A.R.F diet.

First of all, the bones should be ground up. There are places that make raw patties that you can buy, those are safe.

Also are you feeding him raw and processed food in the same meal? That will make them sick.

I would really really really look more into BARF before you keep doing this....

He's been on the diet for about a week now. The simplest reason I went for the prey model diet and not the BARF diet is that dogs are carnivoes, not omnivores though I will occasionally feed him a piece of fruit or veggie as a treat

I would guess no, as "Harley Quinn" is a character from the Batman comics, the Joker's girl

No it is Harley Quinn, ^^^^ She's right, it's after the Joker's side kick from Batman. She's my fave character ever! ^_^ But the name worked out well for the character since she is in a harlequin outfit, no strings attached. ^_^

More dogs are healthier on a raw diet than on kibble. I don't feed raw because it takes so much time for me. You are not irresponsible for feeding raw. Yes the "squirts" are very common with a raw diet--especially if it's the first little bit of feeding. Your dog is detoxing her body. Give her a little canned pumpkin; not pumpkin pie filling. I don't remember how much to give but it does help. Search on raw diets and you'll find quite a bit of info.
