An interesting read: Harvard professor's blog. He also used to be a presidential economic adviser and he writes textbooks also.

Economists are rarely interesting. He was Dubya's Chief Economic Advisor, yet even he declined to sign the letter, saying the statement was "too hyperbolic".
I think economists are the result of inter-breeding between history teachers and weathermen.
Economics is a social science like anthropology or psychology. There are a lot of opinions but very few facts. For instance anthropologist still can't answer the question of nature vs. nurture in re: social behaviors.
There are a variety of schools of thought when it comes to economics and many are contrary to one another. So just because some economists don't agree with Obama's economic plan, many others do agree with Obama. Paul Krugman, for instance. Krugman just won the Nobel prize for economics, BTW.
And thanks, Dirty Ernie, I'm studying to become an economist.Shall I explain why supply-side economics, when applied to strip club micro-economies are bad for both dancers and customers? I can talk about at length, naked, while grinding on laps.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

I have no doubt you could, but I wouldn't understand it (the economy part, not the naked dance part) .![]()
After you get your degree, if you were to unretire and during a lapdance tell me to plant my wallet in my backyard and wait for my money tree to grow, I would most likely do it. Because, ya know, you'd be an economist, not cause you're naked.

For those who are interested in the facts, I offer this:
The detailed responses are bad news for Mr McCain (the full data are available here). Eighty per cent of respondents and no fewer than 71% of those who do not cleave to either main party say Mr Obama has a better grasp of economics. Even among Republicans Mr Obama has the edge: 46% versus 23% say Mr Obama has the better grasp of the subject. “I take McCain’s word on this one,” comments James Harrigan at the University of Virginia, a reference to Mr McCain’s infamous confession that he does not know as much about economics as he should.
