Default Red nails - tacky or no?

My halloween costume (which I spent a lot on and plan to wear ALL this month) is mainly black, with white and red accents. I just painted my finger nails and toe nails bright communist red. I also wear red lipstick with it. I think it's ok for work life, but pretty tacky in real life. Am I right? I'm so self conscious, but I the regular french mani or neutral pearly beige I usually wear just doesn't look right with the outfit.

Is red just plain tacky, for work or real life?

what color red is it, and how long are your nails?
the darker the red, and the shorter your nails the better

i only wear french now, i used to be into the deep dark candy apple red but think that the white look so pretty ! a friend of mine had bright red on the other day ,a red i actually used to wear years ago before i switched to french, and yeah the first thought that came to my mind was trashy but the candy apple dark red is pretty.

it'll be fine as long as you dont have claws for nails. I wear red all the time and have long natural nails and people are always complimenting me on them and the colors i wear

it's fine for this season. That sort of color is fine for times like Halloween season or the holidays. i wouldn't wear it in the spring or something, but it looks fine.

Red is hot, for any occasion. I, myself, keep it simple with a pink and white, but kudos to the red-nailed sistas. Keep it looking fresh. Chipped nail polish is a fashion faux paus.

^ exactly, but I have a very pin up costume for all of october. I can't change my nail polish from day to night. I gotta pick something and stick to it.

The dark merlot red looks great even in the office during the day... It looks sophisticated during the day but sexy and dramatic at night....

Yea, but the outfit's trim, which I'm trying to match, is bright bright reddest red. So I matched that. I only work Th, Fr, Sat, so I'll change it Weds night and back to normal Sunday morning for the rest of the month.

I wear red toes often and red fingernails occasionally. This is in my everyday life, and I have a professional job.

I think it depends on the rest of your appearance... you know?
If you have white-blonde hair and blue eye shadow... chances are you look like a cheap whore...
Otherwise... I don't know... I don't think it looks all that bad.

I think red nails like that, that look very fresh and perfect like that are so classy and sophistacated with classy clothing to compliment the look. Red nails are eternally sexy and enticing in my opinion. I dont find them tacky unless the person is dressed poorly and has a general sloppy appearance and the polish is chipped and looks awful. You sport those nails with gorgously styled model hair, artfully applied makeup and a killer outfit. And yeah of a great pair of high heels!
Whats the costume? Did I miss that part, sorry.

I love red nails! I used to wear dark dark, almost blackish red in the fall times, but my toes are always red...all shades of red!

It's the "season", so I think you can get away with it being bright red on hands and feet.

I love red nails, it's classic. Fire and Ice and Cherries in the Snow by Revlon were *thee* colors in the 1940s, and they're made to this day. Very pinup indeed.

As long as you don't have the hoochie claws, and don't wear them chipped, you're fine.

I like it a lot as long as you keep them perfect. Nothing screams cheap hooker more than shitty chipping red polish.
