Scary stuff. What I found really interesting about the piece was that it was made for Al Jazeera.

What does our educational system have to do with this? Schools are not supposed to teach partisan politics.

Schools are supposed to teach about the civil rights movement; tolerance for people of all faiths and races; and nurture a thirst for knowledge rather than a blind acceptance of propaganda.

A failing school system leads to widespread ignorance which leads to a more vulnerable populace.

Yea, did anybody notice that at the end? Sure doesn't do much for the case that Obama isn't linked to terrorists.

    its very frustrating.
No to the first example because those people WANT to believe that stuff about Obama. It's about his race for them not his policy or stance on issues. They wouldn't vote for him under any circumstance because he is not lily white.

Yes to the second example because those issues matter a great deal to their day to day lives and make the difference between buying food or not.

But I agree it's very frustrating when people from either side don't know the facts or refuse to vote the issues.

I agree. Many parents don't even know how to properly feed their children (I've seen pepsi in baby bottles, for instance). But good parenting skills come back to education, too. Even if your own upbringing was a mess, teachers have the ability to teach students that pepsi is bad for infants.

Not partisan politics but critical thinking skills come into play when making decisions. If a person has not been taught how to discern between facts and fiction, gullibility is the result, leading to the kind of crazy talk that is all over the interwebs today.

its ignorance breeding ignorance. i grew up less than 2 hours away from st clairsville, oh and its sad to say that alot of people in my home town are still racist. its mostly the people that are stuck in the small town because they have no desire to do anything more with their life than settle down early with a wife and kids. they dont realize there is more to life than a town of 3500 gossiping judgemental people. and they in turn pound their views of other races into the heads of their children

    I highly doubt that.

Just how many of the voters in that video do you think would be voting for McCain if he was black?

Now ask yourself how many of the people you think are voting for Obama just because he is black would NOT be voting for him if he was white?

Is it really your contention voters that use race as their main decision making factor... only comes into play for white voters?
No, not at all as my previous post clearly shows to be the case. But based on your last couple of comments it sure seems to be your contention in regards to people of color anyway.

I can see your a waste of all our time though so I'm going to stop wasting mine on you now.

I have family down in Southern OH myself. Other then going into Columbus on occasion, none have traveled, they live on farms, all white people for miles, god fearing, "simple" and proud of it, etc.

I mean they really aren't cruel or anything. But there is no point in trying to "enlighten" them to the rest of the world. After so many years of living life as they have, nothing can change their outlook. In theory they do no harm and are happy as they are, but they also are never ever going to vote for a liberal black man, end of story. Doesn't matter that times have changed, for them time has stood still decades ago.

LOL, So true! Ofcourse if they were smart they would know why but then again if they were smart they wouldn't think or act that way to begin with so it's a catch 22. Sad state of affairs indeed.

i was one of them ever since i was little i told my parents i hated living in a small town. as soon as i graduated high school i moved to columbus, oh but that wasnt good enough for me. i wanted out of the state period. now im in florida! my brother is still stuck in my hometown doing the villiage people thing and my sister got about 40 minutes away which i dont think is even good enough because she moved from a smaller town to a small town. i was never a country bumpkin and i proved that to my family by getting the f' out of there.

    Ummm. OK.

You do realize that the little symbol in the lower left hand corner identifies that as a clip coming from al jazeera tv, the independent Arabic satellite network.

While they aren't as full blown anti-US as other state run Arabic news outlets they do have a rather hardy anti-US bent. So it isn't beyond imagination that they cherry picked all those comments to make it seem that they were representative of a majority in that community, instead of a fringe element they probably are.

I do admit though that such individuals, even as fringe dwellers, are a tad nerve wracking and it would be my personal preference that they didn't exist.

^^They totally cherry pick the comments. But I think that was the point of the segment.

I believe that al jazeera is a pretty good news organization. They are definately better than Fox News as far as being "fair and balanced". On the world stage Al Jazeera does a pretty good job on par with BBC.

    Not exactly.

Those are VALUES and values should be taught in the home.

What schools should teach is history [which would include the civil rights movement in its historical context] and train the mind to be both open AND discerning. Critical thought. Expand and extrapolate. Compare and contrast. That is what schools should teach.

Schools should also teach CIVICS. What ever possessed local school boards to drop this most important piece of our children's' education in favor of PC BS?

Our kids have no idea how their government works. If you asked most 7th-12th graders what a Bill is or how a law gets made you'd get blank stares in response. Most can't even tell you something as basic as the three branches of government.

How can we expect our children to become active, informed, and participatory citizens when they don't know the first thing about the government that they are supposed to be supervising as one of "We the People"?

We are not told how many blacks he had to sift through to actually get to those people. I bet if you sift through enough whites, you would get two or three with the same ignorant viewpoints just because they hate Mccain, and probably likewise for the other side of the fence as well.

I totally agree. The World-BBC is also notoriously anti-US, so they are very much alike in that regard.

Among US journalist organizations neither has a particularly good reputation for being fair and balanced in their reporting on events where the US government is directly involved. Although the BBC did have a very good reputation in that regard at some time in the dim, distant, past.

As far as US based international news organizations, the Christian Science Monitor can't be beat. TV just sucks and sadly most Americans get their news exclusively from TV.
