    Default I retired

I am no longer an adult entertainer or stripper or whatever you feel like calling it. My body can't take the stress or the amount of work anymore. I am on medications from it, mostly to do with stress though. I will stay on here and keep up on things but take the stage no more. Only use my home stripper pole for fun! Well and practice to show off of course!

So anyone know how it is your first job you have after stripping?

I actually retired a little over a year ago and honestly I'd thought to go back a few times, but always hesitated. I used to take breaks from it and then jump right back in, I can't anymore because I simply can't handle the horrid stress of every night hustling.

I worked a couple of jobs afterward and it's hard to get used to at first. I'm an assistant manager now and I make really good money, so it's not too hard and I actually like going to work...LOL! No burn out or chaffed ass from lap dances!

If the economy wasn't so terrible, I'd be tempted to stay a dancer forever, but it's not so easy anymore and after awhile you have to rely on more than your booty sway!

    Best of wishes!

Retiring is the best thing! Makes me feel like I'm not the managers meal ticket anymore! I don't like tip outs and house fees... what "professional" pays to go to work? I think managers are like pimps.

Retiring is such an enlightened experience, assuming it's the dancers choice. When I retired from the clubs (I retired from clubs long before bachelor parties.) I felt like I became myself again. No longer did I feel a guy only liked me because of my body or looks. That I wasn't being judged anymore.

A little bit after I retired I found various jobs. I waitressed, I worked inventory at a store, I even did sales. I briefly considered a return to clubs when a new one opened but decided I needed to make this choice. I'm not going to lie, it was rough for a couple of years. I wasn't making anywhere close to what I did dancing. Even when I got my masters and got a management job I still didn't make anywhere near what I did dancing. I had to be more thrifty. No more spending $200 just on underwear. No more buying without considering the price. I think it was worth it, especially when I think about the nights where I barely made money.

Yeah when I quit I was just fed up with my club and its stupid rules and IOU's if you didnt sell the dance quota or drink quota. It was bullshit.
They gave me a 50.00 IOU for calling in one night when I was sick.
Also the place was a fucking shithole and I grew to dispise how dirty it was.

Right now would be a good time to go to school and pick up a usable trade.

Yeah I am going to become a certified nurses assistant and do that for a while and then go back to school to become a registered nurse. My fiance is going active duty out of reserve for the air force. I gotta keep myself busy working even if he wants to take care of me, I feel useless and depressed if I can't take care of myself when I know I am fully capable of it. I am ready for this.

    LETS MOVE FORWARD!!

Another thing I came to value after quitting, is that I feel that people take me more serious now than before. I mean I wouldn't tell EVERYONE what I did, because they had it in their head what that would mean...Either I was a coke head slut or a crazy irresponsible party animal...Stuff like that, though I can say I didn't get the value of money during my three years of dancing, it was like water and I never really GOT the whole lets save up for stuff in the long run, I did sort of have a this night is my last night to live mentality...But, that's all turned around now, I'm plotting for the future and it's been beaten into me the value of the almighty dollar...LOL.

I feel that I get more out of the things I buy and save for, though I can say it's really annoying at times when you just want to buy $200 worth of underwear and all designer make up...But it passes!

It sucks at first but I wanna work up too. But the great thing is the benefits and that there are no layoffs. Medical field is in high demands and I am taking full advantage of it ^_^.

I think it's really important to try to do what makes you happy, and over time that might change. Some dancers are truly happy dancing and will continue to do so for quite a while.

As for the economy, everyone is affected. We all need to pull in a little. I'm a nurse, and I hear so much about people wanting to go into health care or nursing. If it's something you'd still want to do if it didn't pay/provide security like you think, go for it. But, I'll tell you, in hospitals in my city, the census is low. In fact, an entire med-surg unit is closed at my hospital, something unheard of. Interestingly, this phenomenon has been recent, in line with credit/financial crisis. People aren't seeking elective care (even IF do have insurance, many co-pays are out of sight), and without this type of treatment, people are arriving very ill or not at all. Not good. Time will tell what's going to happen, but they certainly aren't hiring in my area, as talk is actually that of letting go of nurses. I'm not saying nurses are generally struggling (most regions, opposite that at moment), I'm just saying, as strippers should know very well, things like this are cyclical. And talk about "great things awaiting" doesn't necessarily make that true. I love being a nurse, though. We'll do well in whatever we do if we are true to ourselves, so find what gets YOU going, and not just for the money. Good luck.

Where do you live? I live in ATL and they are always hiring nurses here.

Well see thing is that I will be doing that while my fiance - soon to be husband- is going to be active. So security wise isn't really my huge worry. I just know that I have the capabilities to take care of myself and help out even if I don't need too. Plus it's something new, I like jumping around to different things for the experience. Medical field - high demand. lol. But like you said, depends on the area you are in.

I'm in Ohio. Parts of Ohio are experiencing a nursing shortage, but others, like mine, no.

Sorry, I didn't at all mean to be negative. I'd go into nursing all over again in a second. My point, there's so much talk about health care being this beacon in a dark economy. There's always going to be a need for health care, and with reality of the boomer generation, elder care will be a future need. I just wanted you to know it's much deeper than this.

The economy will improve (soon puleeze!), and I think a career choice should be made in a bigger way than just momentary conditions. I don't know you guys, but a lot of pre-nursing students I see talk about the security of nursing and escape from current conditions for their reason for wanting nursing. It's crazy, the numbers of applicants out there, getting up there with med school regarding competition. Nursing hasn't changed from the time schools couldn't pay to fill a nursing class, so hmm? Again, good luck!

I hear ya on that one! I have finally pulled my head out of the sand and am on the path to a 'new space' now though ... still going to take a year to get there. I never wanted to leave empty handed, and while I haven't been as smart as I could have been with my money, I have had a shit load of life experiences that you just can't compare to the house/car/investments I wanted. But I have realised I am never going to be able to get those things dancing anyway - its just not in me. I have my fingers crossed and my hopes set on the end of next year.

that's true ... when you have no other way or reason you are forced to find one ... which can be a positive thing.

I retired a year ago but i already had a full-time serious job when i started dancing so that side of things has just carried on as usual. I do miss the money though - like other posters have said - not being able to just spend $200 without thinking about it - booking I had to buy my dad a washing machine this year and the lousy $250 it cost really made a dent in my finances - that was a shock after 6 years of dancing where that would just have been one night in the club, no real impact.

I have been thinking about going back lately. Not that i didn't appreciate the money when i did dance (i paid for my BA, paid my rent, bought stuff for my dear old dad) but i did waste a lot of it on my ex - fixing up his house, buying him holidays etc and i wish i'd just saved that because i would be financially secure right now.

But I don't miss the long late nights where you make little or nothing. I don't miss the rude, drunken, obnoxious customers. And i LOVE the quality time i get to spend with my fiance.

It's true, sink or swim! So very true...We're living in the real world again and things sort of suck, but there's always a price to pay. For every dollar you earn, someone pays somehow...And with the economy as it is you just have to go out and get a second job if you want to live more comfortably. I just got another job that pays well, THANK GOD, and it's making things easier as well as getting paid weekly.

Stability is hard to grasp financially as a dancer, it's so liquid and easy to make back. But then there's the nights that you feel like even if you pick pocketed every bastard you'd still be broke, LOL.

I just miss being on stage here and there really. I never was a shopper lol. So on that end it doesn't bother me.
