    Default Faking an Accent

Sorry if this thread has been done, but I'm curious. Have any of you ever faked an accent, be it southern, northern, Eurpoean, etc.? If you have, was it just for one custie, one night, or was it an ongoing thing?

I've been thinking about trying it to appear more exotic, but I'm not sure how it would play out, especially if another girl outed me. I think I would go with Irish...

Irish because that's part of my ancestry, and I look the part with slightly red hair and freckles...plus I LOVE the way they talk! I once faked an Irish accent with a guy I met for about two weeks...he never knew. Once I fessed up, he broke it off, though.

I just feel like I need an edge over the other girls. I thought about going blonde since (surprise!) we only have 2 blondes at my club, but i don't think I could pull it off.

i don't try and get told i have an accent all the time i usually say they're right with the first guess (i'm australian born and bred) i usually get english irish or romanian. I think it's the dark hair and fair skin. they're happy to believe it. even talking with a slight like making ass aound like arse usually does it or over prounouncing the D at the end of good makes it sound more believable.

English/British might be easier and sexier to fake than Irish. Irish seems like itd take some serious effort.

I worked with a dancer and she got refered to as "the girl w/ the fake English accent". People would just state it matter of factly as if it really wasnt that weird. She faked it non-stop.Even at home when hanging w/ the bf (i asked).

I thought it was SOOOOO weird. yet she was a oddly cool chick. No one else really gave it a second thought and everyone knew it was fake as she was from the rural country, lol.

I've done Russian and southern. One night my sis was playing the southern belle with a guy from Alabama and he was into it, she told me his friend just arrived and assuming he was from the south, I followed suit with a southern accent. The guy was from Australia! so i had to fake it all night with him.

I have a southern accent that I fight. I am frequently asked if I am from the midwest. I have faked a Russian accent when I don't feel like talking. I just saunter up and say "You vant dahnce?"

    No way! You did what?!

I could never fake one. It'd get guys more into me, no doubt, but I'd be so embarrassed if I got caught.

I fake an accent to appear more exotic all the time. It really depends on who I'm talking to. If the person I'm talking to has an accent, I mirror that accent slightly. One would think, this would throw the person off and it does, but not in a bad way. It actually helps me gain rapport quicker. I appear less threatening and more trustworthy. Especially, if the person barely speaks English, mirroring that accent helps them to understand me better. I turn it off and on all day if need be. It's second-nature for me, the girls at work wouldn't know it's me talking if there weren't looking dead at me.

I knew a guy like this growing up. I thought it was really, really weird, like a sign of some greater weirdness of problems. He was from Florida and he faked a THICK Cockney accent. WTF? Why?!

If you are going to do this you better plan on doing it with everyone, and really know what you are talking about. I've seen a few girls in CA do that and get caught by the customers. Dancers (and customers) don't always remember each others faces the first few times, so if a customer comes in the first time and you have the accent, and the next time he drops in you don't have the accent... you get my point?
    Don't you ever sleep?
Not at night...that's when the stars have rather better things to do. They're coming out, shining, that sort of thing.

Yeah, I have trouble remembering faces, and I don't think I could keep it up every night. I've decided against it. If I ever go to another city for a night or two, I may use it the whole time, but at my home club, I'll stick with plain old me.

I do at one club I work in. I work with 95% Latinas. Although I am half, I appear to be really Caucasian next to them.

I lived in England for five years when I was a kid. The accent has sort of stayed with me since then, but I do sound like I'm from the states. My best friend is a Brit. One day on the way to work, I was just playing with her accent and talking to myself (yup, sounds crazy). When I got there, I wore a union jack (brit flag) bikini. This custie commented on it and I replied with an accent. I spent the next 2 hours with him:-)

Working in a mostly Latin club, this works for me. I tried it because although I speak Spanish ok, most of the girls I work with speak it as a first launguage. I can't really compete there. But I'm good. I stick to it. I have fooled a South African, an Aussie and this male model I dated who was once married to a British/German woman (she was born there).

(Btw, I he seemed really into me while I was using the accent. When I revealed the truth, we still saw each other for a few months, but I could sense that he wasn't that into me.)

OMG, that's crazy, i'm trying so hard to get rid of my accent (I'm from Russia and live in Canada for 4 years now), and you guys are talking about faking the accent on purpose!!! LOL
I think it wouldn't be too hard to fake a Russian accent, but it's pretty hard to get rid of it, thats for sure!!!!!
