Hey everyone,
I started working a new club last month, and since I have been there I've yet to have a night where I've made over about $120 bucks (for an 8 hour shift)
When I first started there, I was given a print out of the fees and I was STUNNED. The manager (who is also a sort-of a friend of mine, I knew him before he started managing the place) assured me that I would be o.k., that I was gonna make so much money it wouldn't matter. Now, I know better than to really believe that but I still thought I would give the place a try.....ya never know, right?
I have come to the realization after a month of being theree that I am working to make someone else rich......and I am suffering. I just can't go back again. I feel as if I am cheating myself and being someone's fool.
Here's an example of what I mean....last night, I had around $50-$60 cash at closing and left with around $15......and I was lucky to leave with that! Thank god the two door guys and DJ that were working were cool and let me keep my last $15 dollars (which I technically owed them) If the rules were really enforced last night, I would have left OWING the club around $14. They let me slide, thank god. But don't get me wrong, it's not something they do all the time.
This just doesn't seem rightWhy should I work all night long to give everything I make to everyone else?? These are hard times, and I understand that the club needs to make money to stay open, but I feel that the fees should be reduced. Especially given the fact that the place is just not busy enough. Last night 2 hours went by without a single customer in the building, and that's not the first time I've seen it happen in this past month.
Tell me if any of you think these fees are astounding: (keep in mind, very small club in a relatively small town that is rarely busy)
$25 house fee PLUS
$3 of every $10 floor dance and $6 of every $20 VIP dance goes to the club.
Manager tip-out: $12 minimum
DJ tip out: $7 minimum
Waitress/Bartender tip out: $2 minimum, to each(That's on top of their own tips, plus minimum wage) Usually 1 bartender on weeknights, 2 on weekends, and 2 waitresses on weekends.
Bouncer tip out :$5 each, minimum (usually there are 4 door guys on Fri/Sat and two on weeknights) ALSO, they get paid $7.25 an hour.
SO, right off the bat, you are automatically obligated to owing the club anywhere from $56-$72 dollars when you sign in. THEN, you get taxed on your dances, too.
Now this is a place where the average girl is making around $100-$200 dollars a night, maybe. Of course, there are a handful of girls that have regulars and make alot more but there are those girls in every club.
So, say you have exactly $100 dollars on you at the end of the night. Say it's a Saturday...$72 dollars of that is gone to house fee and tip-out. That leaves you with $28 dollars. Then, depending on how many dances you did, probably the rest of that will get sucked up as well. So, that leaves you with... $0, and maybe even owing the club.
It seems to me that the way this fee system is set up COMPLETELY fucks over the dancers.
Does anyone else think this is crazy?
