Default If you had an opportunity to talk to your Senator

One on one in a semi-private meeting, what would you ask? I get to meet with RW (D-Or) tomorrow with about 4 other people to discuss the future of Oregon's construction industry and discuss strategies for incorporating green building policies and incentives to builders and residents to make their homes more efficient or even carbon neutral.

I can think of a 1,000 things I'd like to say. I'm not leaving it up to chance, I'm making index cards to read off, in case I get too nervous and freeze in my tracks.

    Wish me luck!

In my case, it would probably be ... 'is it true what the Canadian Press is saying about your husband's new 'girlfriend' ? '

In my case here in RI, I would ask Jack Reed why he accepted nearly $3M from banking concerns as a member of the Senate Banking Committee and I would ask Sheldon Whitehouse to provide me some evidence that he has done anything since being elected to warrant his salary.

LOL! I kind of meant what would you want him/ her to do in regards to policy decisions in DC. This is my first meeting with a senator as a lobbyist. I'm putting on my stripper hustle to try and get stuff done in Oregon and the country as a whole.

I'm very excited. I have a whole plan to make my community as carbon neutral in the housing sector as possible. I know people on economic development commissions in Oregon and Washington (state) and I hope I don't stutter and sound like a dope in front of the Senator.

I doubt I'll be asking about scandal based rumors, as I want the senator to want to work for my cause.

Oh, wow! This is short notice, but I wanted to get something in for you to think about.
The biggest threat to the environment is over-consumerism. We can see this take shape in the expansion of housing further and further away from city centers, so people buy new cars (which consume resources), consume more and more fuel (gas prices -- need I say more?) and promote the expansion of big box store chains. Why not turn the construction and green-housing industry inward, to find ways to revitalize the decaying portions of our cities that need it?

Good luck! Have fun! And for anyone else who wants to talk to their Congressmen and women, but don't have a chance like Paris, check out Congress.org! You can email your elected representatives your points of view. Meeting them in person will get a better response, but heck. Getting the message to them in any way, shape or form, is better than just voting once every few years for the guy you like the least.

I'm sure you'll be fine as long as you wear the horns. Oh! And picture him in his underwear!

I agree with you, much to the chagrin to my fellow home builders, lol! Oregon actually does extremely well with land use and planning already. We are probably one of the most well planned out states in the US.

It is funny that you should mention the use of green construction techniques, as that is the aim of the Home Builders Association in Oregon. We discussed federal issues effecting small businesses in general and home builders in particular. Maybe I should put this in a separate post, but the Senator seemed to confuse the home building industry with large scale public works projects such as roads, bridges and schools. In his defense, housing and neighborhood revitalization is really more of a local issue and not a national one.

He is working on getting money into the hands of home owners to make their homes more energy efficient and to work toward carbon neutrality.

On November 16, 2008 the Senate is going to try to push through the "Healthy American's Act". Here's hoping that we get some relief on that front.

I enjoyed the meeting. Nothing new really came of it, however. The big issue is getting the banks to loan the money that was part of the bailout program. That is next, forcing the banks to use that money to the benefit of the economy instead of just sitting on t or using the money to buy other banks. But the bailout bill had no provision to actually help the economy on the whole. There isn't even anything in the bill to guarantee that the money isn't just going toward bonuses and golden parachutes. That angered him (and me).

Otherwise, it was a good meeting. Most of the things I'd like to see accomplished would take work on a local level. I am already working with local law makers to get those kinds of changes made.

I believe that's what angered most Americans who watched it. And quality of legislation is always a big issue to raise with politicians. Problem is, who is to judge it and at the same time be neutral about it, since everyone seems to have something they want to gain.
I loved going to strip clubs; I actually made some friends there. Now things are different for the clubs and for me. As a result I am not as happy.

Customers are not entitled to grope, disrespect, or rob strippers. This is their job, not their hobby, and they all need income. Clubs are not just some erotic show for guys to view while drinking.

NOTE: anything I post here, outside of a direct quote, is my opinion only, which I am entitled to. Take it for what you estimate it is worth.
