So it is infurating the hell out of me that I have the worst flexibility. I'm 5'10 with super long legs and would kill to be able to do the splits. I've tried stretching everyday, and have heard yoga helps. Any tips girls? THANKS!

Flexibility takes time! Keep stretching, and yes Yoga helps.
I know it's hard, but you just gotta fight through the pain.
If it hurts, you know you're doing it right.((just don't pull anything!!!!))
Eventually,it wont hurt anymore.
Just keep working at it. Gymnastics helped me out a lot,but it still took me about 4 years before I was "flexible"
Yoga is awesome though,It helps flexibility, posture, and balance. Everything dancers needNot to mention the rockin body you get.
Good luck!

Slow...keep moving into the stretching as you do it and remember to USE your breath! Focus on it and not on the pain.
Do not hurt yourself though,it takes time and consistancy!
Get some Pilates "Thera Bands",they are amazing little things, very affordable and you can use to to help stretch even while you're watching TV or something!

I can't do full forward facing splits yet, but I have been able to get my calfs all the way flat on the ground. I LOVE doing this, I do it after my workouts when I'm warm. If I'm not warmed up I'm barely flexible at all.
Dancing moves I like are to lay back and open my legs up and also lay on my side and pull one leg way up behind my head, it looks sexy and naughty and it's a great stretch too!
Thanks for the great advice everyone. I think I just got discouraged cause I was in gymnastics when I was younger and was never able to do them then. I'll keep you posted on my progress!![]()

When you do the splits do you hold them for a looooong time? EVen when it hurts? That helps me. Just suffering through the pain, breathing through it, leaning into the stretch. Also, a hot bath (I like using epsoms salts in it but I dunno if it actually does anything) and then working on your splits afterwards helps.
What I have been doing is practicing my dancing and then doing a full workout for about an hour and a half.
Then stretching really good as I cool down, THEn soaking again in a hot bath afterwards then stretching AGAIN after that. I'm making progress.
I have not stretched properly for like 2 years. I can still do the splits and Im 5'10 / 5'11. Im double jointed (and so are my sons). So dont beat your self up about it.
Stretch day and night , besides yoga and pilates.
I'd vote for the yoga too. Just be prepared to stretch harder than what feels comfortable. Dull pain that starts to go away while you've been in a position for some time is ok, sharp and intense pain probably isn't. Take it slow, no fast movements and concentrate on doing it right. For example if you stretch the back of your legs too hard and with force, it can cause injury in the knee. I would suggest not even trying to do splits before you're near the level of flexibility needed. I've been training for more than half a year now but I still get sore if I try to force myself into a split (I get quite near, though, if I stretch a lot just before trying and take it super slow.)
Be super careful when you get to that dull pain stage. Don't force it after that. I injured myself that way and had chronic hip pain for like five years.
It took me a summer of slow stretching everyday for twenty or thirty minutes to be able to do splits.
