Unbelievable!
Unbelievable!

I'm sorry, I don't think she has a case. It's a looks based industry, if a club thinks she looks too old then she should go to another club.
What happens if she wins? Everyone who gets rejected or fired from a strip club starts filing lawsuits?
Then we'd all be out of work.

I guess in theory anyone who wasn't hired or was fired because of appearance could have a case if this one goes anywhere. Maybe, though, the manager used the wrong reason-age-instead of looks. But really, it's all about looks in this business. She has nice boobs and an okay face/hair, but to look at her upper arm area, it makes me wonder about flab that's probably there on other parts of her body. She does look 40+, and though the age is fine, looking it isn't in our industry. She wouldn't be hired at my club, almost positive. And, my club wouldn't care to give an explanation, so if she's mad now, I couldn't imagine...

"She said she earned close to $8,000 a month while at Locomotion and was one of the hardest-working and most-liked employees."
Sounds like she had a good hustle. She could probably find work at a different club, though maybe she wants to try to stick it to this one and draw some media attention to herself. Who knows. I agree that it would be a tough case to win. Hope she has a good lawyer.

i found it interesting that they hired her at 40...and then let her go at 44. She looked hot to me and 40's is still 40's.
They also hired another dancer at 45 and then let her go after 7mos. due to the change...i find it odd hiring, firing practice at the least.

Hardly unbelievable to me...I'm still reeling from being taken off the night shift at the Rhino (vegas) because I gained LESS THAN 10 lbs. I'm 5'2", 32-F with blonde hair and green eyes...I weighed 116 when they hired me, now I'm 122.
As far as this woman goes, she looks fine to me, and if she's clean and has a decent hustle there's no reason why she shouldn't work at a club until she stops making money. I hope she gets her $100,000 from these discriminatory assholes.

Just from a business standpoint,I think the manager is wrong. If the dancer is well liked by customers and coworkers and I feel that he has no valid complaint about her other than her age,I think he needs to put his personals preferences aside and let the customers decide. If she no longer makes money, then he has a reason to let her go. What is "too old" is a very subjective thing.
If it is legally okay to fire someone in their forties, what is to stop some club owners from saying "Anyone older that 30 is too old?" Then it's 25 or 21. Just as what is too old is very subjective, beauty is a very subjective thing too.

Not surprised. I don't think this dancer has a case though. There is a well known club in Chicago that wouldn't hire anyone over mid 20's. I think the limit was 28 but I forget. They would fire dancers once they hit the age they deemed too old. I think it's wrong, but there's always younger dancers waiting in the wings.

What club just for curiosity? LOL this is in Southern WI but I remember when I worked at the Sugar Shack they only hired from 18-25. Its probably different now.
What club in Chicago are you talking about? ^

The Sugar Shack (mentioned above) and the Admiral. They may have changed these rules, but I personally know other dancers who got fired/never hired because of this (and told by managers this is why they weren't hired/ or fired). I remember seeing ads hiring dancers between 18-28 (or whatever age it was). I've heard VIP is the same way, but don't know anyone who got fired because of it.
Lol I've actually worked at all three of those clubs...hmm, the A is also a lot younger crowd but VIPS I dont believe has those rules, bc when I worked there I was 21-23 and was definitely on the way young end of things there (they start hiring at 21)

I wasn't sure about VIPS. I'm glad they aren't the same way. I'm wondering if the person meant the club that was there before VIPS.

I think she looks "as good" as MANY of the "younger" dancers I've seen in recent years!
You can tell she's on top of her grooming, her hair-color is perfect and her skin well-maintained...I recently saw some 20 years olds with horrible skin,nasty,greasy,root-showing hair that may have been less aged but certainly could have used some grooming tips! They didn't have nearly the upper-arm tone she does either and they were at a "popular and busy" club in San Antonio on night shift...
Just me but although I don't think she'll win her case,it sort of sets the bar in terms of how old is "too old" in her area...good for her for at least not taking it lying down!
That is not true, there are girls that fall outside of 28yrs old that work at these clubs. Alot of times clubs like young girls because they are naive and just looking for work. I worked at the Admiral when I first started. Sure there may be young girls that go in there looking for work, but there is a high turnover rate. It is a juice bar, look at the customers in there. Many of them do not have or want to spend a lot of money. It is a good place to start, but upscale customers do not really go there. Some of the guys that went in on their first time would complain about the neighborhood as well. The club attracts cheap or young guys that do not want to spend a lot of money, and just want to see a naked girl on stage. If you are young, and just starting it may seem ok, and a fine place to learn. Once you know your way around, people do not want to stick around with a place with lower income potential. I have heard that years and years ago it was great, now-not so much.
In regards to the original post- yes I think her case is of age discrimination. There is a lot of discrimination that goes on and we all know it. However I think in this case since they told her that her firing was based on age then it was discrimination, most people would have cleverly covered the firing up, but she may have a case since they outright told her that it was based on age and she has a proven record of making $

I've seen some nasty looking strippers that can hustle and make the club money.I don't see why age should matter if she can make THAT much money. Goodness. there is probably some other reason as to why she was fired..
I is a mommy.09.27.09

This was years ago, and like I mentioned it's possible it changed. I personally believe those who told me because there were quite a few who had this happen, though to be honest, they could have used that as an excuse. They were longtime dancers though and pretty reliable.

Right I haven't worked at those clubs in a few years myself and like I said I was 21 when I was hired there but I know for a fact the sugar shack stated in their advertising to apply if you were between 18-25 only....Now, it might be different and I would assume it is with what the economy is.
This is a thread jack but I totally disagree I did KICK ASS at the admiral! It was a blast to work at no emotional stress just do you want a dance, hi want a dance, hi hi and I averaged 5-7 there on the weekends...
BTW she wasn't saying they fire you when you hit 28 but generally they only want to hire younger than that age....
I got that partBTW she wasn't saying they fire you when you hit 28 but generally they only want to hire younger than that age...![]()
As I said, they have a high turnover rate due to the reasons I described above. On certain nights if it was busy the "wanna dance" routine works ok, however it is not the upscale club that it was known for in the 90's I am told. Meaning- there are better clubs with higher earning potential with better customers that want to spend more time and more money.

Good for her and all the other dancers who are filing this lawsuit, it's about time girls took a major stand against the disrespectful attitudes of these kind of club owners. Ive witnessed , and in some cases experienced incidents of this and other kinds of controlling and disrespectful attitude of a handful of club owners in Ontario, Canada.
Somehow these guys think they are immune to any retaliation, whether it is legal or otherwise, and it looks like they are all going to have to be very careful how they treat the girls who really make the club what it is from now on.
God, if my club only hired 18-25 EVERY SINGLE ONE of our top earners would be gone. In fact, only the bottom of the barrel would be left. IMO, if you're making the club money, it shouldn't matter how old you are, especially if you take care of yourself and look good.

Sure, it sucks that they hire based on looks and age, BUT imagine this industry if clubs HAD to hire and keep anyone that came through the door. HA
Shes out of her mind! and, im sorry, i HOPE she loses!

exactly. girls get turned down all the time because they look too ugly, too fat, too old, or too homeless. How is getting fired any different than not getting hired? its really not. besides, maybe if she didnt have that ridiculous lip job and who knows what else, she would look younger and more attractive and thus would not have gotten fired in the first place. i know 40 year old dancers who look way better than her because they dont have plastic surgery, and no one would even guess their age

I'm totally confused because we're talking the Locomotion here. I thought that club only hired older strippers.
(also, place is notorious in the GTA (Greater Toronto Area) for extras).
