Default New Orleans: Hustler and lodging info?

I'm thinking about going down to New Orleans for a 3-week working vacation. I know which club I want to work at, but where do you stay when you're there? Can anyone recommend any decent (i.e. safe and budget-friendly) weekly-rate hotels near Bourbon St?

I'd be fine with staying at a hostel too...as long as there's no curfew/lockout, obviously. I know of the India House hostel, but that doesn't seem all that close to the clubs...or is it?

I'm guessing there is no sort of dancer accommodation for any of the clubs, just because I haven't heard of any...?

Edited to add: while I'm at it, anyone who's worked at the NOLA Hustler...would you mind giving me a rundown of the house fees, schedule requirements, and prices/club cuts for dances/VIP?

Most of the hotels near Hustler are going to be on the more expensive side, since they are in the Quarter. The further out you go, the more you increase your affordable options.

As far as India House goes, it looks pretty close to Canal, in which case you can just take the streetcar directly to Bourbon Street. They don't run often late at night, so you would probably need a cab to get home.

I live in New Orleans and have never had to stay in a hotel here, so I can't advise you about rates or anything.

Have you considered subletting a room for a month? I know a lot of people who looking for short term roommates. In fact, there's a month subletter in my house right now. It would be cheaper than a hotel, and you would probably be in a closer neighborhood.

    Enjoy your stay here!

That is a good idea; I will look into that! I can only stay at the hostel for two weeks anyway, and I'm going to be there twice as long as that, so...yeah. That would be sweet if I could find a room to rent for a month.

I think you could easily do sublet a room, especially since you're coming around the holidays when a lot of people are traveling. Post an ad on craigslist.

Good neighborhoods close to Hustler: the Marigny, Algiers Point, and of course, anything in the Quarter (however, rooms in the quarter are going a bit pricier).

Le Richelieu is a great hotel to stay in. I don't know what you consider inexpensive.

I live in Louisiana and have been to the quarter more times than I care to remember. If you are planning a trip to NO, then you need to check out the conventions. The Quarter SUCKS as far as working conditions are concerned. There is mucho prostitution and drug use! I worked at the Penthouse Club 2 separate weekends. The first weekend I bank rolled ($1500 after costs) because of a pilot's convention. The second weekend I made $400 after costs for 3 nights of work.

The customers are all tourists and think that all the girls are whores. I HATE tourists!!!! If you are going to travel, I would recommend Dallas or Houston. Several of my friends have been going to Houston, because money has been pretty poor lately. They've always come back happy.

I am going to New Orleans next week. I booked a room at the Place D'Armes. It is right by Jackson Square. The room worked out to about $110 per night. I called the hotel directly and recieved a cheaper rate than what is offered on their website. The hotel is rated #14 on tripadvisor (my bible) and has really good reviews. It is suppose to be haunted too which is a plus in my book. I will be checking in on the second and can pm you my opinion if you'd like.

House fees are really really low ike 35 or 40 I think. They take 5 from each dance you do in the booths and that just goes on with your house fee. And they take an amount from the VIP dances. Can't say how much because it depends on what you sell or if they get champagne with it. You pay it all at the end of the night before you clock out. Makes it easier that way. I loved working there and banked everynight I worked for the two weeks there. Good luck!!

    ^^ thanks, Pixie!

Oh, and I forgot to ask how they do their scheduling. Since this is supposed to be a working vacation, I want to work 5-6 shifts a week...and I want to work nights, not day shifts. Is that do-able at Hustler?

There's no license--just bring your driver's license and SS card.

I'd be wary of working Mardi Gras--I've never worked it, but I hear the clubs get flooded with girls, and the customers are mostly drunk bros who wandered in off the streets and don't want to spend money--why should they when all the tourists outside are showing their breasts for free?

Just what i've heard though, so take it with a grain of salt.

Yeah I figured that could also be the case. I am going the first weekend in Feb., so maybe it wouldn't be as bad as the actual weekend before Fat Tuesday. But, if I work, I write off a whole vacation, which can make even a bad night in tips worth the expense. =)
