Default How do you know when to quit?

Sorry if this exists, I couldn't find it. Last night after tipout I made $38 for five and a half hours of work. I know everyone has bad nights, but these days I'm lucky to break $100. I just feel like the money keeps getting worse and worse and the guys keep getting cheaper and cheaper. It's not just me, even the top earner last night was having a hard time making money.

When I should I quit? How many bad nights in a row are acceptable? I would try out other clubs in the area, but mine is one of the few that is extras-free. I just want to make money, and I don't think that's too much to ask when I take off my top. I'm considering applying for a dumb minimum wage job, but these days it's hard to get hired anywhere. Is anyone else struggling as much as me? Sorry if this sounds like a sob story, I just really don't know what to do.

Um, yeah everyone is suffering. That is why most are staying at their "terrible" jobs right now...because there is nothing else...except unemployment...which is going for broke as well.

When to quit? When you average your week and you are making less than what you'd make at a minimum wage. I used that to justify quitting a few clubs. Two clubs were so slow I would often walk out with 10 bucks or so for 8 hours work. That's only gas money. It wasn't just me, since most of the girls spent the whole time in the dressing room. I hate jobs like retail and restaurant, but at least at those jobs it's a guaranteed wage and no undressing.

I'm down in central fl for vacation and it looks like a ghost town. it's really scary.

though I did see a club in the Tampa area that said it was hiring girls. My mother ( ) says she never sees any cars there though.

I feel you. It makes you feel terrible about yourself when you're out there, getting naked or topless for strangers and at the end of the night you realize you've done it for less than a min wage job would've paid you.

There are a few things working against everyone in the skin biz: The economy sucks (but this will mean better sales in the near future. People haven't gotten to the "fuck this, I'm going to have some fun and skip rent" stage of economic collapse), and Thanksgiving is less than a week away. That is a time of family and travel and finals and football. So there are a lot of distractions going on that is preventing those that have money from going to the clubs anyway.

You may find money at airport area clubs or near truck stops. Find the lonely guys, they'll spend on dances.

I danced during the recession leading up to the dot-bomb and after 9/11. Those that live in areas with airport strip clubs did better than the downtown clubs, in general. I worked truck stop clubs in the upper mid west and did fine, but I stayed on the road a lot. That got old, but the clubs in my city were awful and not worth the bother.

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

Thanks for all the replies everyone. Oh, so you're on the west coast of central fl, mediocrity? I'm on the east. Yeah lexi2008, that's exactly how I feel. Plus having to deal with the drunken idiots who try to give me $7 for a VIP dance... I guess I'm not alone in this though, I had no idea how many of us were struggling. Paris, thanks, very helpful post, you have some good points. Here, near the closest airport, all the strip clubs are no-contact air dances. I wonder if there's any money-making potential there anyway? Maybe clueless tourists...
I'm going to see how Saturday night goes, and if I don't make decent money, I saw a place down the road that's hiring. Wish me luck.

Good luck. I'm about the end of my rope too. Custys are just not spending these days and house isn't getting any cheaper. I'm not sure what to do and working longer shifts doesn't necessarily mean more money. It's such a crap shoot, too bad I don't have more regulars.

Sorry if this is a little off-topic, but speaking of this week being Thanksgiving - isn't the night before Thanksgiving supposed to be THE party night of the year? I remember being a bartender and making bank on that day every year because everyone has off the next day and most people go out. I was going to put myself on the schedule this week for that reason alone! Do you guys think it will be lucrative for us as well?

Also, I think that with the holidays coming up our customer base might change slightly - i.e. it might be smart to appeal to the lonely older guys who make it into the club. I feel a little heartless and cold even suggesting to capitalize on these guys, but that is probably where the money will be in the next month as we get closer to xmas, or really, anytime during the year! I always have a hard time going up to these guys and tend to stick to groups of young guys...I will definitely have to consciously shift my approach in the next month.

You're right. No one forced them to go to the SC, they came voluntarily, knowing the attention they receive would cost money. I still have a hard time trying not to feel guilty for taking their money though

I'm very happy I read this thread. It has put things in perspective for me. I guess I should consider myself lucky that my income has stayed study since the end of the summer. Somehow I hover around $150-$250 a shift w/the very, very occasional awesome one and a couple of those taking home $30 after tip out.

I do have a devoted reg who I really have to be tolerant with. He is harmless, but does get on my nerves.

At one of the clubs I work, I am not the top earner by far, so it gives me hope that if I improve my hustle skills, (or get some cosmetic enhancement, LOL) that I can get into that $500 range that some of the top earners seem to do. (This is a bikni bar w/ $10 laps and no VIP).

So, i am still above the minimum wage thing with my average shift being around 5 hours. However, my muscles are starting to hurt so much, that if I wake up one day and can't do the splits, then I may quit, even if I am making above minimum wage.

I think if I could no longer be a graceful, energetic stage dancer that may be the deal breaker for me.

I live by the beach in So. Cali, rent free, full med. insurance (including dental and vision). I don't think I could live in Baltimore.

The $$$ sounds great, but there is a lot to be said for a prefered life style

I can't speak for any other B-more clubs, but I'm at Hustler and I cannot complain about it. Granted it's been slower than usual during the week - but even so I am still clearing $200-$300 on those slow nights. We are so used to making $500+ there, even on weeknights. Saturdays are always a guaranteed $1k. Hustler is on the block, downtown.

Sex industry sales have gone up 469% since the recession started, so the money is being spent, heavily, somewhere. Some sex shops, some call girls, but strippers are getting theirs as well. Question is, if this continues, how long will you put up with it?

My club is near the intersection of 3 truck stops, a casino, and several hotels that host traveling business men.

My money hasnt changed due to the economy thus far, but it has gotten harder due to other factors such as the dancers being on drugs and doing way more than they should for less moolah than i charge for company.

I knew those location factors would make that club more stable so i stuck w/ it through thick and thin. Id find an airport club or truck stop club if i lived somewhere else...or just a club w/ stable reason for people to stop in no matter what.

I actually made some money Saturday night! Finally... People seemed to be overly feely for $10 though, I had to slap/move a lot of hands.
I decided to apply for some places hiring holiday help anyway, since money isn't something I like to risk.

I may look into other clubs, after I lose these final 3 pounds. Still not sure if they'd be any better, though. Orlando's no-contact, but heck, that sounds pretty good right now.
