    Default Quitting drinking at work

Yesterday was a turning point for me when I burst out crying in front of a customer. I don't normally drink whiskey and it has an emotional effect on me. Thankfully, he was sympathetic and paid me.

I really want to quit drinking at work but I get social anxiety. Maybe I should take a xanax. I am thinking of switching to a 'wanna dance' club so I can avoid the usual chit chat hustle.

Has anyone stopped drinking at work cold turkey? Some pointers and advice would be great.

I ve had a turning point like that at work too. I think the best thing to do is
1.) Accept the fact that you just dont drink at work anymore
2.) Prep yourself before you go into work by saying "i dont need alcohol to make my night better" blah blah blah
3.) Give yourself a pat on the back each hour that goes by without you having alcohol
4.) Carry around a non alcoholic drink and pretend to be drunk and flirty....
5.) Stay confident and remember that in the "real" world these guys would probably never even have the opportunity to talk to you so realise that your the one with the power not them AND even more so if their drunk and you arent.

    Good luck xoxo

I limit myself to two. This way, I dont feel deprived and "missing" anything. I go in at 9 and come home at 4am, so it doesnt make difference anyway.

I will admit that sometimes I do feel left out when a group is taking shots, and I will confess that I have broken my "just two" rule once in awhile. But seriously. Cold turkey and you will just obsess, obsess, obsess.

Another piece of advice: Dont go the Xanax route. If you have severe anxiety, I would tentatively suggest this perhaps may not be a great job for you. I'm not trying to be a bitch, I've just seen a lot of girls have panic attacks at work. If you decide to stick it out, I'd go to a psychiatrist and get a script for long term panic management, instead of a quick fix like Xanax.

*I am totally not knocking Xanax for those of you that take it. I'm just a believer in long-term management. I have also seen people kill themselves by accident with a Xanax and alcohol combination, and I dont want her doing this as well.*

Have you tried Klonopin for your anxiety? Once you start on your meds you can't/shouldn't drink. Nothing good can come of it.

Early next month I'll be trying a new method to help with my anxiety under the guidance of a professional. Mine doesn't start before I get to the club, my attacks start before I leave the house many times. I know I can overcome this, I just need some help. My doc wouldn't prescribe Xanax, he said nothing good could come from it. We'll see.

I quit drinking completely at work, and I'm not going to lie, it was extremely difficult. If it hadn't been for the fact that I couldn't drink at all due to pregnancy I don't think I could have done it. However, as time went on, I was able to adjust my hustle and it became easier and easier to not drink at work.

There's always Antabuse as well, if you're having SERIOUS trouble stopping. I'd forgotten about it. That stuff works in minutes and I guarantee you'd never think of drinking again. It is considered a last resort though. If you dont drink at home then I'd forgo it. I almost tried it a few summers ago when I had a serious drinking problem.

Antibuse doesnt make you not crave alcohol. It will make you extremely sick if you drink on it. My sister took it for 4 years. its may be an option though if you absolutely dont want to drink and you dont think you can control it or are becoming dependent on it.

I only drank 2 martinis today and the rest were fake drinks.. That's pretty good. Right now, finances are more of a worry. I'll stick to the 2 drink rule.

All I can say is if you're trying to quit drinking, don't have even one sip or you'll be back to your old ways. For me I can't just have 1 drink, 1 turns into 2, 2 to 3 & so on until the o shit I'm so drunk I can't even walk! Just pretend to drink, if the custie asks what u want tell the waitress to make it virgin for you. & don't worry I see slot of girls in the industry let their emotions get the best of them, you'll get thru.

what are some good cocktail drinks that a bartender just CAN'T make strong? Our bartender will not make virgin drinks and I doubt he'd put less liquor in either. He seems to like getting the dancers drunk. He gives me free drinks all the time (even though he knows I can get customers to pay) and I dump them when I can, but I like to stay out on the floor as much as I can so it's not always easy.

    try:
    midori sour
    amaretto sour
    hpnotiq and sprite
anything "tall", so with extra mixers, like a tall malibu and pinapple

my only problem with drinking at work is the hangover the next day. and i have problems with my stomach so i really shouldn't drink but the nights i haven't gotten drunk i don't make money. when i get really drunk i make lots of money. so i try to only work 2 nights a week and not drink on my nights off.
i take dissolvable klonopin like twice a day as one part of my management for anxiety. i have generalized anxiety, i don't get specific attacks anymore. its pretty mild at this point but anyway.
so i sympathize with quitting drinking but i look at it as part of the price i pay right now for making so much money with so little work, allowing me time for so many other things in my life.

thanks! Talls are probably one of those things where he'd just make it a double, but midori sours I can do (kinda hate amaretto, never heard of hpnotiq). i don't really like midori sours, but whatever, that's less that i'm drinking.

I like that the person above said she makes more money sober--good influence!

eh, i dont drink at work at all, if i do it makes me sleepy and i want to go home. but some tips i think might help
    - do you drive? think of the cost of a DUI. its not worth it
    - think of the damage you are doing to your liver
    - think of how excessive drinking will make you age a lot faster and make you look worn out way too early

i too am very shy and a lot of customers can see this but i still make money, some actually like it and think my shyness is cute. give it a try sober, you might surprise yourself.

This is what scared me off of drinking...looking at the girls who drank heavily and realizing how old they all look! I'm 25 and everyone guesses me to be 18-20, and I love it. It's my goal to still pass for 20 when I'm 30, so drinking's not going to work for me.

I always walk around the club with a rocks or martini glass with water in it, and fake being tipsy. The glass is the perfect excuse to refuse a customer's drink offer: "I've already got one, thanks". Having that 'prop' also helps me act the part, and after awhile I swear I start to feel tipsy even though I haven't had a drop of liquor! Customers can never tell that I'm acting, and I actually make a lot more money faking it than being drunk for real.

I drink out of habit and shyness at work mostly. Making conversation with a customer while sober can be excruciating when you're naturally a very introverted person. I'm thinking of taking some meds to take the edge off. Once my bills have been paid, I'm on the lookout for a job more suited to my personality.

sorsi-great idea! I've done the faking tipsy thing, but the full drink (water) is a great idea! It's very hard to explain to customers why you don't want a drink.
