    Default My dysfunctions. What are yours?

    I am trying to gauge how "normal" I am so i am sharing my most prevalent issues. I often wonder what causes people to be wired in the way that they are. I am curious to know what others perceive their own dysfunction to be.

    1. I think there must be some sort of psychological issue attached to it- I have a tendency to pick scabs and uneven skin areas. Is this something everyone does or is it a form of self mutilation?

    2. When I am stressed out I binge shop and or binge eat.

    3. I stay up late at night and hate waking up in the morning.

    4. I am a procrastinator.

    5. I am insanely jealous when I'm in a relationship.

    5. I'm cluttered and disorganized as hell. I love to shop and things seem to pile up to the point where my place is too small.

    I second your 1, 3 and 4!

    Like last week, leaving an essay to the last minute led to late nights (and not getting up until noon) which led to being stressed out=bad skin=picking my face.


    I have OCD, under control but in public places I'm germaphobic.

    Sometimes too much daydreaming, spending hours imagening stuff when I should be doing something important like school work.

    Eating unhealthy, too much sugary stuff...

    OMG... i think you are my dysfunctional twin.... i am 1-5 (both 5's hehe)...

    i do ALL those things.. and as much as i point it out... i can't really change them

    1. I hate waking up in the morning and sometimes stay in bed till 4 PM, even if I went to bed @ 3 AM.

    2. Sometimes all I eat all day is a box of fruit by the foots. Other times I eat everything in site and have the biggest stomachache the next day.

    3. I sometimes like to let messes pile up and THEN I clean them because it feels more satisfying to clean a big mess than a small one.

    4. I used to always find some way to psych myself out of going into work. Now I reallllly need money, tho, so that outweighs it, I guess.

    There are more, just can't think of any at this point.

    1. I am insanely organized. I have a printed schedule that I carry with me, and I plan my days down to 15 minute increments. I even plan spontaneous activities in advance but don't share it with anyone, so as to not appear to be too much of a freak to my friends and family.

    I love this thread. I like coming here to vent or read the fun posts; it feels like nobody else goes through similar things except the girls here. To Mia- It's nice to finally meet my dysfunctional twin Paris- I want your dysfunctions!

    Im ultra organised. everything in my appartment has its exact place and it pisses me off if someone moves or changes things. Im a bit agoraphobic as well and it really stresses me out to be in crowds of people. Also i write lots of lists.

    I pick the dead ends off of my hair when im bored.

    I constantly am cracking my knuckles. toes, back and neck.

    I cannot sleep in total darkness if im sleeping alone. I also cannot sleep without a fan on.

    I am obsessed with fear of fires. I will sometimes triple check to make sure ive turned off stove, hair straighteners and curling irons.
    I cant leave my cell phone charger plugged in if my phone isnt charging. I feel like it could cause a fire.

    Thats all i can think of for now but im sure i have plenty more.

    I jealous in a relationship but he will never know it.
    I make lists for everything also.
    I have a thing for even numbers.
    I still carry a security blanket.
    Im very disorganized but I can find everything.
    Im afraid of the dark.

    I am very strong spiritually, but am a cutter. personally i think i simply care too much about people,even people who dont give a crap about me. It doesnt happen much but when i do get really down, i cut,and cut and cut to feel better.

    Like many of you, I also pick my blemishes. I'm somewhat flexible so I can pick them wherever they are on my body. At the moment my back is so bad I almost don't want to go to work.

    I get seriously anxious if I cannot exercise. I know I won't become fat in a day if I miss my workouts but damn I feel like I will.

    I'm so afraid of being late. I used to see nightmares over and over again where I'm late and cannot go where I'm supposed to. Nowadays this fear isn't that bad but I still tend to take too much time for traveling to somewhere etc., and then I'm in my destionation way earlier than I should.

    Hmm.. there must be something else. I'll add them later if I recall any

    Oh yes there is. I'm so afraid of throwing up, especially in public, that when I have to go somewhere, I'm nervous, my tummy gets weird, I concentrate on it, it gets worse... (For the record I've been very healthy and never actually thrown up in public.) Lately I've been getting less panic attacs than usually but every now and then I've had them since I was 11 or something.

    1. Pick at blemishes, hang nails, nothing. Used to be right before shows because I would get jitters. And doing that out on the ice...not a good idea.

    2.Can't stop grinding my teeth no matter what.

    3.Can't relax completly.

    4.Very paranoid about things I cannot control, like Earth imploding...

    5.Used to be incredibly disorganized and now I cannot stand seeing anything out of its rightful place.

    6.Usually get way in over my head and it takes me forever to crawl on out.

    7.So lazy that I am pretty much lost my endurance, and I need to start fixing that.

    1. I have a problem with following rules that don't make sense and, linked to that, i often have a problem with authority
    2. I shop when i am stressed - it's like entering another world. i keep it moderately under control but i know that i could really go off the rails if i am not careful
    3. I get bored easily so i hate doing lots of paperwork and having to fill in spreadsheets etc.

    1-compulsive nail biter.
    2-cant sleep unless my neck and ears are covered.
    3-OCD. Feel like something bad will happen if I don't repeat things over and over again.
    4-Can't eat in public.
    5-I have daddy issues.

    1. pluck and oftentimes eat hairs from different parts of my body. eyelashes, eyebrows, inside my nose, sometimes i pluck my pubes (but i don't eat those) etc. if i'm really stressed out i chew the hair right off of my arms and eat it. it's called trichotillomania (i think i spelled that right...)
    2. cyclical insomnia
    3. occasional alcoholic tendencies
    4. pick zits/remove blackheads/etc constantly. on myself and anyone else that will let me.
    5. i HATE being late. if i'm not twenty minutes early, i'm late. if i'm only five minutes early, i'm stressed out. if i am actually late, i'm freaking out. if i'm gonna be more than a half hour late, oftentimes i do not go at all.

    Shit, where do I start?

    1. I am a champion emotional eater. Yesterday I ate 1 whole package of those break & bake sugar cookies. It makes me feel better temporarily. My mouth is full of cavities. :-( I have at this moment about $4,000 worth of dental work I need to do. I brush, I floss, I rinse but it doesn't matter- my diet is the culprit.

    2. I drink until I don't know what is going on around me. Doesn't start out that way, but ends up that way. I don't much at all though anymore so it is a rare occurence.

    3. Major, major depression. I hate going outside, I hate leaving my room even. (Plus side is I am getting help for this one so it is only temporary)

    4. Shopping. I'm broke now but when I am not, watch out. Nothing, and I mean NOTHING makes me happier than when I am shopping. I can shop all day and night. Seriously my arms will hurt with bags and I'll have a smile on my face. I will drive 2 hours even more to go shopping. I've taken a greyhound to a strange city then a cab to the mall and back just to go to my favorite store.
    I've accepted invitations to visit people just so I can go to the mall when I am out there. I went out west just to go shopping at the upscale Bellevue mall in Seattle. The guy I was with took me to some regular mall first and I had a fit, so he drove me an hour to Seattle and then I was happy. HE even said he's never seen me so happy. I was happy to max out his credit card LOL. If I don't feel like working, I go window shopping. Then surprise surprise, I'll be at work that evening. Works like a charm.

    5. I put myself in bad situations. I'll just leave it at that.

    7. see also: self medicating with weed
    8. i have a weird phobia that triggers panic attacks.. like the sound of a dog yiping in pain, or watching any animal try to get out of a cage (like, anything panicked). it also happens if i see people in frenzied mob-like situations. movies or real life footage of hysterical large crowds will do it.
