You don't always have to have your wishdom teeth removed. Some dentists say that these teeth are not needed and routinely remove them. However, there are some dentists that will tell you that if they are not crowding your teeth you don't have to get them removed. The choice is often up to you. They are painful though when they start to grow in, but it does go away. You can also check a dental school for reduced rates.

i had to have all 4 of mine out. they started coming in at 16. you could see one of them poking through! i didnt have them out til 19, when my back started hurting from it. get all of them out- not just 1. the pain doesnt just go away and it can mess up your other teeth via overcrowding. if you can, get nitrous, not just novacaine. it is a somewhat painful experience and you will need to take a day or two off of work. you will also not be able to smoke- it can damage the open pockets in your mouth where the teeth were.

i'm not sure where you're at, but some cities have dental clinics for the poor. some only pull teeth, some do cleanings too. you can check dental schools, too. they might do it for free or at a low cost. i have had fillings done at one. the student actually did a good job and they were very nice.

the denist school is good advice. They are all the way under my gums but I think they might be growing wrong since its been giving me jaw pains for the last year and getting worse lately.

I am probably the person that is the most afraid of needles but guess what...I had all four removed at the same time and it was entirely worth it. The place I went to put me to sleep through an intravenous sedation, do I didn't have to see anything or feel anything.

Oh yeah, by the way, all four teeth were impacted, I had a horrible infection on the two bottom teeth and after surgery the recovery was not painful after the first day!

Ouch. You will be in pain (the growing pain) for quiet a long time if you try to let these babies ride. They will cause nothing but trouble unless you are one of the lucky ones who's teeth grow straight up and are not impacted. Cross your fingers. They are going to hurt, just like a teething baby. Mine started coming up at age 14, and my gums had these mounds in the very back where they should have popped up. For two years I was constantly aching. No insurance, same problem. I finally got in such terrible pain with the impacted teeth that my parents paid cash to get all of them cut out. They were so badly impacted that the oral surgeon had to put me to sleep. They were completely sideways and completely impacted. You don't want to be in pain like I was. You need to try to round up the cash and go to an oral surgeon to get those things out or you will be miserable. At least I am speaking from my experience. If you end up feeling okay with them left in, then good. Hope that you do, because you don't have insurance Been there so many times and I hate it. Just got insurance for the first time since I was 19 last month, I am 23.

Similar story here. I didn't realize I had them and hadn't experienced any pain prior to this one day. I was out of town on business and it was the weekend and in a matter of 3 or 4 hours the side of my face started to swell and it was starting to throb. I flipped open the yellow pages but couldn't find a dentist who was open so one of my clients called hers who was vacationing but agreed to drive back two hours to see me. By the time I saw him that evenining I looked like a blowfish and I was in extreme pain. He looked at me and said I needed oral surgery at that point so off I went to the hospital.

In my experience, they came in without warning and in a matter of hours. Basically your gum starts to swell and is real tender in that area. Hell I didn't even know I had those suckers underneath!

You might want to call a dentist and ask about pricing to remove them and be sure to tell them you don't have insurance. (They charge lower prices if you're not insured). This could give you an idea and you could start saving or perhaps see if they have a payment plan. It may not be as bad as you think.

Or if you go the hospital route, just make sure you tell them you don't have insurance and need financial assistance before they see you!

i had mine removed when i was sixteen. they were impacted and would have grown sideways/diagonally until they hit my molars, at which point they would have caused my entire mouth to fuck up.

i had to have my gums cut, the teeth crushed, and then removed piece by piece. i was given nitrous oxide and intravenous pain killers. it wasn't that bad, honestly. it sucked afterwards.

since you don't have insurance, it's going to be expensive, but will save you a lot of pain as well as tooth crowding and possible jaw damage in the future.

talking to dentists, hospitals, and dental schools are all great ideas. good luck.

oh yeah...ps... I was 25 when I got them removed and had no pain plus a quick recovery afterward...MAY I ADD THAT I LOST 13 POUNDS!!! this is due to the fact that all I could eat was liquids...(blended shakes) for about three weeks prior (due to infection) and three weeks after! I have kept the weight off and it's awesome!

I had mine out in August...4 impacted at once. I was terrified, but they put me under, gave me plenty of painkillers, and I was up and moving the next day.

SO worth it, I was in so much pain before, and immediately after, it was gone

I have a similar problem as a few of the other ladies here. My wisdom teeth are sideways and are starting to grow downward! They have already crowded my bottom teeth making the front bottom ones crooked. I can't address my crooked teeth until I get my wisdom teeth removed and I was told I would have to go to the hospital and be put to sleep as they have to remove not only the teeth but part of my jaw as well. These fucking teeth have caused me headaches and tooth aches for years so I'll be glad to get them removed in a few months no matter how painful the surgery or recovery will be.

All 4 of mine were impacted. I didn't need to remove them. They weren't bothering me at all, but my dentist talked me into it. Seriously, do not extract them unless it's totally necessary. Without insurance it's like shopping a la carte. There's a per tooth charge, not including anesthesia.

I had serious complications with my surgery. I was given too much anesthesia and was knocked out for hours. When I finally woke up my ride was pissed and rushed me out. Before I could get out the door, I threw up excess anesthesia everywhere. I was a mess. I couldn't eat solid food for days and I couldn't keep down liquids the first day. My face was swollen on both sides. I looked like a disease victim.

It was hell. I'm a punk for pain, but I know other people who had little to no problems. I also know of one who had one side removed and never went back to get the other two, lol.

You WILL need to get them removed if they are impacted. (Which means that they are growing in under your molar) The pain is not going away, at least not permanently.

You can sign up for DINA dental insurance. They accept pre-existing conditions and will save you about half of the cost. Then you can finance the rest. They offer 12 month interest free plans. Talk to your dentist. They probably have different payment options available.

I only had 2 removed, and need to go get the other 2 done, but they were only slightly impacted. It did hurt a little bit afterwards, but for me the most painful part is when they numb your mouth!! Now I can stand a lot of pain, but for some reason I can't tolerate that. Anyways, my face didn't puff up very much and I worked the next day.
