Default I quit my day job... Should i dance again?

Ok, so after a few months of hell at my dayjob where my employer seems to think it's ok to forge my signature and that i'm just going to carry on as though nothing is wrong today i quit my job with immediate effect (even though i am supposed to give two weeks notice, but hey, sue me and i will take great pleasure in telling the court why i left). I sent a letter via email and have put a hard copy in the post.

So, now i have no income, i have no savings and although i have an interview for a job next week i'm wondering whether or not i should dust off the clear heels and take to the pole again. I was sitting in a regular bar last night and a huge group of about 60 guys came in on a works Christmas related night out and i couldn't help but think that they were just ideal candidates to spend in a SC. The main problem with this is that my fiance would not be at all happy with my doing this. We don't live together or even in the same city but i don't think i could lie to him. Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to raise this gently with him?

I assume the interview is for a conventional day job? Can you hold on until you see if you'll be hired there? Otherwise your fiance needs to accept the fact that you have to survive somehow unless he wants to pay all your bills

Yeah, the interview is for a conventional dayjob and i can hold out for the next week until i hear if i get it or not. I'm just trying to think ahead to a contingency plan. My fiance can't pay my bills because he doesn't have a job himself i guess i just need to explain that to him in a gentle way.

I hope you saved examples of your employer forging your signature. This is your "proof" when you have to explain quitting a job at a job interview. That and any other legal stuff that may be attached to those forged signatures. Get copies! ASAP! Stop reading this and go get copies!

oh hell yeah! I made myself several copies and have reported it to the appropriate authorities. Now i am out of a job and out of money but it feels good to be out of that environment. I had a job interview today and told them exactly why it may not be possible to get a reference from my previous employer - they seemed fine with that (ethics are very important in my line of work), so now i just have to hope i get the job.

On the dancing front i talked it over with my other half and he understands that if i need then dancing is better than starving so i feel better about going back to it having discussed it with him.

I'd get some legal advice. It sounds like you might have a case for constructive dismissal - that's where you are forced to leave a job because your employer has behaved unreasonably.

If that's the case, I'd look for a no win, no fee lawyer. A lot of these cases are actually settled out of court because the employer decided that settling without admission of liability is cheaper than fighting it through the courts.

I took some legal advice but because i haven't been in post for a year i can't claim constructive dismissal. I think that somehow my employer counted on that in the way they handled it, but they didn't count on my being prepared to resign and report them to the authorities.

But the good news is i got the job i had an interview for this week and they want me to start next week so not too long out of work at least. And they know about the situation with my previous employer and said they admire my honesty. My focus now is on finding a place to live etc ready for my new job!

This is not the time to be digging into your savings if you don't have to do it.

Congrats on landing the new job!

Well I'm glad you got the job! For one thing, it's getting a lot tougher these days in the clubs. It's not like it used to be a few years back. Especially the last 3-6 months. I'm still doing well, and some of the dancers still are, but a lot of them are hurting.

Moments later--duh, I just saw you are in England. I have no clue how the clubs in England are doing, of course...

    Thanks for the warm wishes!
Truth is my friends tell me that the clubs are tough at the moment, England is experiencing the same economic hardships as the US, and heading out to my regular old club would make me money but probably no more than $80-100 a night at the moment.

Besides which, it is rather too late now, i start my new job in a couple of days and have been on a serious flat hunting mission since i got the good news. Nowhere to live yet but a couple of friends with sofa space and a few places to see tomorrow!
