Default A father's duty! according to Chris Rock

On one of his latest stand-up acts, Chris Rock left me thinking, he says "The best way of knowing that you did your job as a father is if your daughter does not end up in the pole" check it out, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7au6v...eature=related
I think there is a lot of truth of that but I can only get enlightment from a dancer. Comments?

Let me quote Aristotle Onassis: ‘Even women who won’t take money to go to bed with a man will always settle for carats'.

I laughed when I first heard him say that. I thought it was pretty funny.

It's kinda true if you believe the stereotype of strippers. I sure wouldn't want my daughter to become the strippers we know those stereotypes are based off. I would feel like a failure as a parent if she fell into those traps. But if she was s tripper like me, I wouldn't have a problem with it.

I laughed more at the "some guys are ADDICTED to stripclubs" part than anything
If you're in the stripclub when the sun is out you got some problems

He's just projecting his transactional mentality onto others.

A transactional mentality tends to be useful in sociopath-friendly lines of work, such as sexwork. Thus, Chris Rock is pretty reasonable in suggesting that fathers should not raise daughters who thrive in environments that support sociopathic tendencies.

Certainly he could append 'sales work of most types' to that and be as correct. Keeping kids off the pole or the used-car lot or the motivational workshop circuit is generally a healthier way to raise them (to name some other kinds of work that reward sociopathy).

This is not to say you have to be one to succeed in such work, or that such work makes you become that way, only that if you have those tendencies even a little, they are well-rewarded and somewhat encouraged by the nature of the work.

Venality and cunning should never be surprising things to find in a stripper, or car/boat/etc salesman, or motivational speaker, because these things are just so well rewarded if one practices them in such lines of work.

No ma'am. I was going for 'everyone has a price, some are just more honest than others'.

That reminds me of a Churchill story:::"'At a dinner party, Winston Churchill asked the woman sitting next to him if she would sleep with him for one million dollars. After hemming and hawing, she agreed that yes, she would. Then, he asked her if she would sleep with him for one dollar. She was offended, "What do you think I am, a prostitute?" she indignantly replied. "Madam" Churchill said in the droll voice of his, "We've already established what you are, now we're just haggling over the price."

But everyone doesn't. Not everyone has a transactional mentality about relationships with others.

You are reading to much into it.

My stepdad ran a medical supply company, when his top sales rep left, all her customers left. They did not follow her, she went to a different area. Faced at the loss of major income for the company, he went and asked some of the doctors why. It was made clear that they were 'happy' in their sales relationship with said sales rep. And the new guy was 'not going to cut it' for them. This same sales rep belittled 'sex workers'. But hey, at least the escort is honest about what she does. You see, it has nothing to do with a transactional mentality.

Chris Rock is a very funny comedian and he says things to get laughs based on stereo types that his audience can relate to.

The part of the idea of a woman that enjoys her sexuality must somehow be flawed, makes me feel sad. Is it her father's job to create a deep shame of her sexual feelings to the point that she would find the idea of a sexual stage performance repulsive and her own sexuality as repulsive or "dirty" by extension?

Why can't women just be sexual and enjoy their sexuality? Where is the failure in that?

Promote yourself and earn more money! This is a business that is owned by strippers for strippers. Let's make that money!

Why does a woman have to engage in selling desire for money to be 'enjoying her sexuality'? is the sexually enthusiastic housewife not 'enjoying her sexuality' because she enjoys it with just one man? why is it 'shame' if a lady shares herself with only one other?

chris rock is touching on the idea that sexuality can be enthusiastic and without shame without being for sale, that a woman can be free with her body without granting access to all comers with a twenty in hand.

I never thought about motivation speakers in that way...............bit depressed now.
A civilian spends money to look good
A stripper looks good to make money
A civilian may be after your wage
A stripper laughs at your wage

Exactly. The thought of my hypothetical daughter becoming a stripper bothers me at first, because I don't know what sort of person said daughter will be (whether she'll be smart enough to avoid the traps, etc). However, if she was like myself and my friends, I'd be more than happy to support her decision. Hell, I could have accepted help from my parents and grandparents, but I chose to strip instead because I didn't feel good about myself taking their hard-earned money just so I could have an easier time in school.

I call bullshit on that story, FWIW.

^It is bullshit. That "story" has been credited to many famous people. Oscar Wilde, Lord Byron, etc.

I've never heard Churchill used before though lol

I haven't heard it credited to anyone else, and I can't find it on snopes (through a search).

But what Aristotle Onassis said is real: ‘Even women who won’t take money to go to bed with a man will always settle for carats,’

Fuck Kid Rock. "Nothing against strippers, but keeps calling us hoes?" Hypocritical ignorant....*UGH*
Narrowminded people like that disgust me. I am so sick of damn stereotypes. people always want to see the negative, it''s more amusing it seems. I'm proud to say I am a student, i have a wonderful Dad who lavished attention and spoiled me rotten as a kid. (still does) Just makes me want to scream at people like that "I strip for the MONEY!!! I'm smart, I only have to work 3 days a week, which allows me to pursue my ed full time, no weekends , and still make over $70 k a year.... And they wonder why we do it???!
